I have found that religious men are the absolute worst.
The family system in religion is often abusive.
I have noticed with my brother, and other guys I’ve inow, who are abused by their mothers and also taught that they are superior to women, 1. Do not like women telling them what to do. They’re absolutely incorrigible and they want to feel in control and will feel emasculated “obeying” you. You will be a “nagging bitch.” 2. Not all of them, but a portion of them act out violence on women. They believe women exist to serve them and they externalize all their shit onto women and use them as little punching bags for their traumas. They have unresolved resentment and feel justified cause society doesn’t promote men grow or change.

Raised Mormon, and the only policy for divorce is is if he stops paying tithing, going to church, etc etc; basically if he stops following god you can leave him. This does NOT include if he abuses you or your children. There was a woman who left because their husband raped their 5 year old daughter. She actually got so much shit for divorcing him.
My mother did 90% of the parenting and my father just got off on harassing and bullying and teasing knowing she would never leave. When I left the church he said I was just doing it for “revenge” and I “secretly believed.” I asked him to explain why he felt that way and he never answered.
No contact. No wonder they push religion on women and get scared of women divorcing or leaving; it dismantles the whole system. A woman I know left the church because when she told the bishop her husband raped her DAILY he asked her a number of questions about his church attendance and then told her to continue to honor her husband and that he “wasn’t doing anything wrong.” I hate the splitting in our society of either conservative misogyny or liberal. Same wings on the woman hating bird.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Sadly I’m not surprised in the least. I wasn’t raised Mormon, but I was raised in a fundamentalist environment and that kind of treatment was the norm for women in my family’s church.
I hate the splitting in our society of either conservative misogyny or liberal. Same wings on the woman hating bird.

I know some Mormons. I never would have dreamt that they dealt with this.
Is it possible that it's regional? I have heard mentions about the "California Mormons" being let off the hook with some of this crap. I just cannot wrap my head around this.
I'm active in my church and none of this would ever be tolerated. I am not saying that my church would suit everyone, but no one would ever question escaping abuse! And child molestation? Get out of here! They'd get out their pitchforks and do the guy in themselves.

My father molested me and had sexually charged conversations with me my entire teen years. My mother denied it and smeared me as “special needs” so she wouldn’t have to deal with it. I had to seek that special needs agency to leave the incest, and they are now extorting my ssid to keep me with them so I’m having to go back to fighting to get those funds back so I can get intensive therapy and go back to school. He ruined my life. That article shook me (I’ll link it when I can find it; the child sex abuse one. That broke my heart. The moment I went no contact with my father I had a nightmare he tried to rape me. I was afraid he’d rape me my whole life.)
Before she died she basically told me in so many ways she hated me and that she knew but wouldn’t divorce him; I was less important than her upholding a perfect mormon family image.
Its not openly discussed but it’s more common then you think. Abuse in the Mormon church is so common. So many women in the ex Mormon group talked about being sexually abused, usually by an uncle or relative.
Mine was my father and I had to live with him for 24 years. I knew it was bad when I had to make a savings in secret. No one at this agency believes me. I’m a liability and “crazy”. They refuse to treat me as a person. It is a cult. It is such a cult.
I think my mother didn’t want to disappoint her parents or the church. I don’t understand.
You won’t hear it from mormons cause we don’t talk about family issues; “families can be together forever.” And “forgive” and all that shit. But you’ll hear it from the ex mormons. Lots of stories.

I don’t believe in god. I just view it as an irrational belief. There’s no evidence and we are indoctrinated into it BUT I know some people will still believe in god and just not like organized religion. I can at least respect that. A lot of churches don’t support divorce because of women left their husbands they may leave the church too. I think man created god cause his ego couldn’t handle women or death. He needed to feel omniscient. It isn’t for women.
You’re right it doesn’t say that anywhere but sadly that’s the thing; it abuse isn’t listed as a reason to leave, rape isn’t an unforgivable sin but blasphemy is. I find religion to be so misogynistic. I am hurt by how religious women have treated me; life of internalized misogyny and hate.
My mother was extremely narcissistic. I worry I’m being narcissistic and working really hard not to dump this everywhere but the support is a lot I appreciate it; being believed feels like breathing jr means a lot they don’t believe me here so I feel crazy and like no one will.

Yes, we're validating you. There's just no way that what you're experiencing is normal. To quote a line from "Planet of the Apes" - it's a madhouse. You're in a madhouse and we can see that clearly.

Probably the reason my organized religion (my small Christian church) "works" for me is that it's not very intrusive. There are good things about church, but you've got to always keep a sharp eye on them and be ready to leave if they start to jump the shark.
It's understandable that you don't believe in God. Your experiences have been horrifically negative. And that's your church's and your family's fault. Since I do believe in God, I believe they will suffer grave consequences for what they've done. I also believe that you have a very good life ahead of you. You are strong and you will be okay. All I can say again is that I'm so sorry that you've had to endure this and NONE of it is your fault.

I think my experience pushed me more but I was always a critical thinker. “God” never answering my prayers when I begged for the abuse to a stop certainty didn’t help!
(I was always weirded out when I saw clips of that movie cause I didn’t get what it was about but I may have to just watch that now!)

No one at this agency believes me because it doesn’t benefit them to and they see their clients as liabilities and they basically convinced me to give up my funds. Now I have to have a legal process to get it back even though I didn’t need one then; my father used my ssid (which I need until I heal from Ptsd and get back to work and school if I ever get my funds and heal and leave this agency,) to hold me hostage. Fear mongered me and then got violent about it. This agency is extorting me in the same way and discourages me from obtaining my funds. I feel crazy here.

Yep, my dad was an abusive alcoholic. My mom stayed with him and covered his tracks pretending we were perfect just to protect our image (she has narcissism). She goes to therapy now because she claims that she struggles with the guilt of keeping us kids there and not moving out but says she had no other choice and that staying with him was the best option we had (she didn’t want to work either). When they got divorced everyone treated us different. Mom finally left and went into a full on midlife crisis of drinking and drugs, dad drinks every day but still goes using the church to get people to believe he is changing his ways. Yeah I was raised to be a pickme because of all of this bullshit.
The culture is also that women must get married and everything revolves around getting a man. I got a tattoo and the first thing out of my grandmothers mouth was “Now you won’t attract any good men” .... like.... not true but for the sake of the argument let’s say it is.... did it not occur to anyone that if I can’t attract a good man I could just not have a man? Gasp. Nope. Marriage is the end all be all of my existence

I heard stories like that. Some friends became Mormon converts and said that they were strongly urged to not pursue higher education because they should be looking at getting married. Yeah, that "conversion" didn't stick too long. Glad my friends escaped.
I knew that Mormons had some weird cultural things, but I never dreamt that covering up abuse from family members was something they'd do, or that it was widespread. I'm in total shock to learn how bad it is! I'm so sorry!

My ex joined a church in the last year of our relationship. He gradually got completely brainwashed. Little things at first, culminating in him dumping me because I was too independent and the man is supposed to be the leader and Christlike figure in a Godly relationship. I was devastated as it was such a long relationship and I was deep into the sunk cost fallacy. Needless to say, I now have the Atheist or Agnostic filters on as a dealbreaker on my Hinge profile. I can own property if I want, travel when I want, I can adopt a child if i want (I never really cared about having biological kids), I can have a relationship with whatever man I want: young, old, broke, rich and not expect a damn thing. Girl I feel you! I panicked and became a pick-me for a few months last year. I'm thankful I had enough self worth to kick my NVM to the curb. But I was still stressed out about my biological clock and meeting a man and settling down. All the things we are told we HAVE to do in order to be happy. But I was happy before I bowed to societal pressure, I felt free before I tied myself to a NVM. Once I remembered how happy I was JUST LAST YEAR it was easy to put 2 and 2 together and see that pushing myself to conform to these arbitrary societal norms was making me deeply unhappy. Now I'm at peace. I wouldn't change places with another soul. And if a man can love me like I love myself then he is welcome to stay. Otherwise he can hit the bricks!

Haha my own friends are pretty good at being like "girl come on." But you know, your friends are your friends. In the past, "weird" things that guys did that didn't sit right w/ me but I couldn't explain why, they felt the same. Then later theyd point out some problems.
But I think women here would put their finger on it immediately. While some of my friends understand men very well, they haven't had experience with real downright scrotes, thank God. So I think the women here can catch things more quickly. And i learned a lot from this sub too to better prepare me for next time. Like for ex how to spot a porn addict.

It's not so bad, personally! We get to save up money and spend it in things we truly want, we can get together and go on trips, hell solo trips are awesome too! Before Covid I used to treat myself to the movies at least twice a month ($6 Tuesdays, baby!), and since I chose early screenings it gave me time to shop around, and find out some cool stuff.
A guy would have to compete with myself in terms of how well I treat myself ;P

Thanks! ☺️ The funny thing is I wasn’t planning on doing it. It just happened. I use to be one of those women who thought her self worth and validation came from men. I now know that isn’t the case.
I recently told my therapist that I’m lonely and a bit jealous of my friend who recently met someone new. My therapist asked me if I have the time to put into finding someone and having a relationship. The honest is no, I don’t. I have more important things going on in my life then having a relationship!

I dated a guy who didn't seem to be from any of these categories. He was incredibly respectful to me. He would explicitly ask me for consent for sex and check in with me during sex to make sure I was good. He paid for every date without a complaint. He had kids from a previous relationship who he saw regularly, treated kindly, and paid child support for. He was not a porn addict or a misogynist or a narcissist (at least I don't believe he was). Right off the bat he treated me better than any guy I'd ever been with to such a degree that it really made me realize how disrespectful most other men are.
After a few months of thinking I found a HVM I figured out what was wrong with him though. HE WAS A FUCKING WHITE SUPREMACIST. He wasn't very outspoken about it so it took a few months for it to come out.
Long story short... even the ones who don't seem bad at first glance are still fucking trash.
