This mentality is so toxic! It is actually dangerous. I truly believed in this when I was a pickme and I almost got killed trying to save the “devil”. I also read about a girl that got shot by her boyfriend. Her family said they knew about the abuse but she always went back because she wanted to save him by loving him, as he had had a really rough childhood. That was me to a T. I survived, she didn’t. It breaks my heart.

My ex totally defined himself this way - things would be great for him if only he found a woman to settle down with, have kids and live like everybody else. Then he became emotionally abusive to me for not fulfilling that role. I told him several times before I left that no one but him can fix his childhood trauma but that man wrapped it like a blanket around himself to justify any of his life choices and lack of responsibility

If you want to help change awful men, a good dumping and not being taken back ever seems to do some of them the world of good. About half of them learn something from that even if it is just not to keep lying once they have been caught out and maybe one in twenty actually gets himself together properly. I know that's not great figures but it's the best we've found.

I feel this so hard. In my 20s, I was a pickmeisha and just wanted anybody, somebody to love me (or "love" me since I didn't know what love was and I really needed to love myself). I got with a guy who checked off all the items on my "list"...but he was abusive and narcissistic, a truly shit human being. And when I finally got out, thank God, I felt like I had failed as a woman...because a good woman is supposed to be able to "fix" a man right? Ughhhhhh so much wrong with this!

You really, truly cannot change a man, and most times you end up hurt in the process emotionally, mentally and sometimes even physically. It's draining and can even kill you. I had to learn the hard way in my failed marriage and in crappy 'platonic' friendships. It's not worth it so save that energy for yourself. There's therapists and actual professionals out there if and when men need to get help and get their own stuff together.
