Cue the scrotes lining up to call us goldiggers! But at this point, I couldn't care less. I will never date a man who is broke/struggles with money, and I will strongly advise that women on here don't either. Poverty won't just affect you - it will also have a negative impact on any children you may have. People who are in poverty suffer the following:

  • limited access to resources, including good quality housing.
  • stress of living in poverty, leading to a shorter life expectancy
  • Unhealthy lifestyles. People who are poor tend to be prone to issues like obesity and malnutrition.
  • Poorer education and employment opportunities.
  • Feelings of exclusion
  • In the case of children, poverty leads to poorer outcomes across the board in areas such as education, job prospects, and mental health.

I grew up in a house that had little money, and even though I am making good money now it still affects me to this day. I was so scared to ask my parents for $5 because my mom would make me feel guilty for asking. I would wear shoes and school uniforms until they had visible holes because my family couldn't afford to replace them. I started working at 14 which had a detrimental impact on my education in terms of attainment. Lastly, families who start out poor tend to stay poor. Social mobility is much harder when you do not have money. For example, people who are poor are often unable to act as guarantors for their children when they need to move out or get a mortgage, thus making it much harder for their child to move out if they need to for work.

Being with a man who cannot provide is not a badge of honour. Hitching your wagon to such a man will lead to bad outcomes not just for you, but also for your future descendants. Not to mention, men who make less than you won't thank you for it. Their inability to do better for themselves and their family will only drag you down. Don't do it.
