I think a lot of them get "frustrated" too. Now that their sex object is pregnant, sometimes they can't have as much sex anymore or find their partner growing in ways that they don't like. It's probably not the only reason, but I know I had a lot less sex while pregnant. Kind of goes to the "think with their dick" MO, right?

I went through a lot of male-induced stress while pregnant. In my experience, men get violent when their partner is pregnant because they can't handle not being the center of attention. Most men are surrogate children that don't want to grow up. They want all the benefits of fatherhood without any of the responsibility. There's more to it but that's the most concise explanation I can give.

A family member who has been a cop for 30 yrs (Canada) casually mentioned a few months ago that women are far more likely to be attacked while in the shower / bathroom.

Something about vulnerability and trusting that we are safe makes some men’s minds go about planning opportunities to attack.

I think it's because they know that you are going to realize that you've been treating them like your baby but once a real baby comes that's over. It's all about jealousy and ego.

They go from being the centre of her world, having all her attention, love, care, coddling, catering, thoughts and obsession (trust me, she's usually ruminating 24/7 on how she can "fix" the problem, get him to stop or do xyz, fix the relationship) and they sense her turning from him.

It's also a good tactic to get DV victims to snap out of their excuses and justifications - ask her "if your daughter was being treated like this, what would you say to her?" - our protective instincts for others are calibrated, for some reason we tolerate mistreatment for ourselves.

Men also think that once he's impregnated her, he owns her. He's also ruined her body, made his mark. He can't stand the thought of her leaving with his child and another man accepting her and loving her how he can't. "If I can't have her, no-one can".

Control tactic. A pregnant woman will be very submissive in an abusive situation to avoid any harm to the baby. A lot of women fear the stigma of being a single parent. Single mothers are often targeted by men trying to groom the children as well.

As soon as you have a baby, you become a target for even more degenerates.

My daughters father was 20 years older than me, poked holes in the condoms and didn't admit it til I was 37 weeks and already gone. His excuse was "if you had my baby you would listen to me". I was 22 years old and he hated me going out with my friends.

He has five sons. Desperately wanted a daughter. Last year, I heard he'd got caught being gross with extremely young girls.

Guess why he wanted a daughter! These scrotes have no limits to what they will abuse - babies, children, teens, full grown women - if its a female they'll hurt it.

Because they were abusers all along and the percived state of her vulnerablility (pregnancy) combined with cultural misogyny that allows them to get away with this crime triggers the abuse. It's not much different than predators chasing young girls (yes girls, as in "children") and inexpirenced naive women. Or like asking for past traumas to see where your weak ppints are. The moment an abuser spots a vulnerability it's nearly impossibly for them to resist, making the mask drop off. They smell the blood like sharks. That's why the "blood in the water test" exists.

Edit: This phenomenon on triggering abuse isn't primarily a matter of gender dynamics. Society makes women more vulnerable and tolerates and enforces the abuse of women. But the URGE of abusers to abuse their victim isn't sex based IMO.

This is a time where she is physically impaired, has health and mobility issues. Often she's out of work for a year and makes less or even no money in that time, so she is more dependent on her boyfriend or husband. She is more vulnerable and men take advantage of that. Some abusive men only become like that later on as they wait for a very easy target to come along and a woman in her normal/non-pregnant state is just not "easy enough" for him.

This is also why disabled women are more at risk of abuse from men than non-disabled women.

Womb envy. LVM get jealous extremely easily, when women start receiving positive attention and support for their pregnancy and even start visiting their doctor more often it angers LVM because if she starts getting support she might leave him. He's spent the entire relationship isolating her from other people so she is dependent on him and suddenly now that she's pregnant her family and friends are wanting to help her out. He emotionally reacts by punishing her in the masculine way possible, violence.

They now have a perfect candidate to control and abuse. It’s a coalescence of many factors, but none are based on actual logic. Edit to add: pregnancy gives a woman power (something is happening the man can’t control), and men reflexively feel a need to exert more control over what they view as their domain.

I think it's likely that they couldn't handle the stress and their violent tendencies erupt at that time.

I've been in a violent ex marriage and I'm now married to a very caring man. I'm pregnant and it has been one of the hardest times of my life. I've been extremely ill and unable to work or do much housework so my hisband has more pressure on him because he's a "doer" and feels obligated to pick up the slack. It's been a lifesaver for me and I show my appreciation, but obviously it's been hard work for him, and it's been hard work just trying to eat and take basic care of myself because of how sick I've been. Like ongoing food poisoning plus other life altering physical issues. And the stress, worrying, waiting on test results that can change our life forever, panic etc. It's hard.

So imagine if you have an abusive male who already doesn't pull their weight, and he senses his partner needs more from him. These types of men might be unemployed and doing no housework, and act like it's no big deal and f*ck you for criticising them at all. But deep down they know they're not being a man and they feel emasculated by their own actions, but choose to blame it on the woman and resent her for it. It doesn't make much sense but it's avoidant maladaptive behaviour they learned in childhood, and it helps people get stuck taking care of them due to sheer exhaustion caused by them. Their parents and then their partners are so over the m that it's easier just to ignore them and go about your life than deal with their fits when they don't het their own way. It's very very childish.

So if the wife is sick, exhausted, worrying about preparing for the baby, finances etc, abuser will get furious even if he just SENSES she's stressed and says barely anything. Because they are SOOOOO fragile and sensitive and immature that they cannot deal with a single emotion that comes from their partner. So they pounce on it and lash out as their way of controlling everything. Since you cant beat the emotions out of somebody or make them into a droid that serves you, they get so angry and frustrated that they escalate and kill them.

It's purely not being able to handle ANYTHING. They cant handle any pressure or responsibility or stress. There will be individual circumstances but the pressure will always contribute to their breaking point. If they feel any unpleasant emotion, it is their partners fault so they need to hurt the partner as the source of everything stressful. They're deluded and like sick children in adult bodies and they don't have any empathy or understanding of important emotions or how to address them. They want the world to revolve around them and have all of their desires met at pnce otherwise they explode, like a toddler. They can't put someone else first and the one thing they spend their lives avoiding is responsibility. Consequences, work, responsibility, maturity, empathy, putting others first are the things that they hate and have no skills in. They just want to live like children, have everything brought to them with a smile, only fun allowed, no seriousness, no responsibilities, no discussions, no difficulty, zero stress tolerance and everyone is on the page they want them to be at all times. Otherwise they have a fit. That's why their friends or family might say they're laid back and fun, because friends don't have many (or any) expectations of them and they will be fun when things are going their way and in an environment they enjoy, with substances they enjoy etc. But they're like toddlers that have a sweet smile for strangers and have a blast at the party, but then come home and have an epic meltdown with kicking and slapping because mom says it's bed time. I would say my abuser would have likely not hit me if I had of done everything he wanted and never spoke up. He probably wouldn't have even been regularly verbally abusive. All I had to do was take on 100% of our life, financially domestically, and emotionally, lie to him and say I'm happy and I don't need anything at all, hand him all my money and tell him he's the man.. if he believed it and it was all done as a seriously good performance, he'd have been happy and left me alone. But that's abuse in itself.

For some men, pregnancy is a tool they use to create vulnerability. They have a breeding kink, mostly because it makes women helpless, but they have no interest in actually rearing a child or driving a woman to an appointment. I have also heard from some women(never had kids myself) that having a child is incredibly empowering. It teaches you what you can do with your body, and how much you are capable of. It makes you not want to deal with so much BS and prioritize your child’s life. Of course this kind of thing would piss off an abusive partner, so they take out their murderous rage on them.

I believe it’s based on how they think of women as sexual objects. Most of the time in these situations the pregnancy means they can’t have sex with that object or at least can’t do it as much as they want to. The visible reminder to them that this object is about to give birth to a baby and soon their life as they know it will be changed forever (muh freedom gone etc) makes them even more frustrated. I think the combination of these factors makes them angry so they end up wanting to destroy the object.

A terrifying true tale:

I was friends with my ex for 10 years before we even dated. I met his family before then also.

I was ambivalent about having children and it wasn’t important to me at the time whether I ever had a child or not. We married a year to the date after our first date (so romantic!) and we waited a year after that to start a family so we could enjoy “just being a married couple” first. My suggestion. Barf.

We were both older so that family didn’t happen easily but when it did… SURPRISE! It was twins! Now I’m living in a movie, right?

As someone with a “geriatric pregnancy” (a medical term if you’re over 35) and a high risk pregnancy (more than one AND also over 35!), suffice it to say we had more than the usual number of visits for scans, etc.

I remember going to the obstetrician who would later deliver my children and seeing posters in the bathroom (a single person occupancy space with a door that locked) that were very upfront about how domestic abuse often begins in pregnancy.

I joked with my husband because he used the same washroom during visits about it and he joked back. We were married 3+ years at this point and I literally said, “I guess that means you have to start beating me now” and laughed. He laughed too and made a fist and very gingerly tapped my arm with it and said, “beat, beat, beat”. It seemed like a tender moment that a couple shares that is funny only to them. We laughed about it even after we got home.

Fast forward a few months. The cherubs arrive! The best and most terrifying day of my life. I’m a mom after many years - truly a miracle!

The abuse started immediately after we all went home from the hospital.

I kicked my husband out of our home while unemployed and with two babies to look after that weren’t even six months old. I literally returned that man to his family.

I’ve never looked back with an ounce of regret. It was exactly the right thing to do.

I’ll never know if I saved the lives of my sons or myself, but there’s a chance it did. I definitely know my life has been easier as a single mom than staying.

I could speculate all day about WHY he did the things he did (and I did that a lot for years), but 11 years later it doesn’t matter.

Looking back on our friendship and relationship were there red flags? Maybe about our relationship here and there but nothing that would have ever made me suspect what I encountered. A truly chilling story.
