So I, a white male, was on the bus today, and I was sitting alone as there was plenty of empty seats. I noticed a woman in the front of the bus with sunglasses on staring at me. She would avert her gaze when I looked towards her, but then would resume staring at me. In order to be staring at me as she was she had to position herself unconventially, thus making it obvious what she was doing.

At first I began to doubt myself. I thought, "why is she staring at me, she probably thinks I'm a creep or something."

Then I realize, she is the creep. For example, if genders were reversed (male staring at female) no one would hesitate to accuse the male of being a creep. But for a moment society actually convinced me that I was in the wrong for being stared at, as if it was because I was doing something that was offending someone.
