They have done studies on this and it's revealed that men in their twenties today are LESS likely to be sexually active today compared to men in the past.

Dating apps, especially mainstream sites such as Tinder and Bumble, are heavily looks based. You get 3-5 pictures plus a short bio to convince a woman to swipe yes on you, of course it's going to be mostly on physical appearance. In addition, women are much more picky than men are and one reason for this is because women receive a high volume of interest from men. As a result, they become very selective about who they swipe yes on and who they give their attention to. It's not really possible for women to message every single guy so they pick the 3-5 guys they like the most and primarily focus on them.

What this causes is an extremely competitive dating environment for men which is oftentimes quite demoralizing. Because women are very picky and selective about the men they swipe on, this means that many guys on the site will receive little to no matches. This is also one reason why online dating works best for men in the top 20% (profile wise) while it absolutely sucks for men in the bottom 20%.

It's probably location dependent to a significant degree, mostly influenced by the amount of infrastructure in said locations: certain places simply don't have much in the way of places where unrelated people could gather and hang out.

Then after seeing how bad dating apps are for men I ditched that too.

Now I just accepted to be alone for the rest of my life.

No but I'm also religious and a lot of us meet through church/campus Christian organizations still. For my secular friends meeting on dating apps does seem to be pretty common. Especially now that we're out of undergrad and navigating your post-college social life can be rough starting out.

I'm a little younger than you and I don't know a single couple who met off an app younger than my parents' generation. I'm sure there are some, but we just have different experiences. Most meet at uni, through friends or through some kind of social activity. Apps are seen as mainly for hookups and maybe a last resort for relationships.

It's either dating apps or school/college. Sometimes work if they work around young people (baristas, fast food, wait staff, etc) but it's primarily dating apps or educational environments. Sometimes they meet through a merging of social groups at parties (which you hear about through peers from school or your neighborhood). My current partner and I met through tinder, as did a guy I dated in college because I didn't like the options immediately around me. I like apps because you can actually pick closer to what you want based off a large pool rather than being stuck with maybe the 4 "meh" options you have from class or work.

Talking to strangers can happen but is seems risky not just from a potential safety standpoint, but if you have more niche interests or a strong, very developed personality, you are liking to find others lacking. Like really lacking, unless you have the blessing of being in an place where people are active, educated, have goals, etc. Talking to strangers is generally not worth it unless you're very non-picky or are simply going for someone's appearance.

My circle of friends is pretty diverse when it comes to age, ranging from early 20s to nearly 50. There is a generation gap for sure, the older ones met their SO in rl, through hobbies, friends and social activities. The younger ones met their so mostly through apps.

Depends on the zoomer. I go out often and I see the zoomers socializing IRL. They're always playing volley ball, at the kava bars, at the beach together, hanging out at the coffee shops and boba places. I also have zoomer friends that are always going to concerts, shows, and open mics.

As with anything, the extroverts and ambiverts will socialize with each other IRL.

The hermits and recluses will socialize online only.

In my case, most of it has been done through social media. Not quite dating apps per se, but still the process of talking online, so I count it that way.

For my social group it's pretty much 50/50 on how the couples met. Us and another couple met through school, one couple met at a party and the other two through dating apps.

I’m a millennial but fairly young. Tinder came out right after I finished college. It’s fairly rare to meet couples that did not meet online unless they got together in college (pre-Tinder). Friends of friends still happens but it’s rare. Our generation had several years where you had to hit the bars or go to a party to meet new people, so we flexed that muscle when we were younger. However there’s been a definite shift.

The zoomers I know are either religious or into subcultures/hobbies where they can meet people. Having family/friends introduce you is also still common. Dating apps are uncommon in my circle as even those the met their partners online met them while participating in hobbies.

I think it's pretty default at this point in most age categories. Btw, you never want to date a coworker or neighbor. Coworker romances can end up with one of you getting fired (usually the guy) or causing an awkward daily experience of you guys break up.

As far as neighbors go... they can be fun and convenient for casual fun. But, you don't want your girlfriend living that close to you.

If you want to meet someone in the wild then you need to get out and be where they are.

It’s more common than it was before but it’s not the only way. Of all my dates, about 75% came from OLD but only 25% of my relationships were from OLD - most were friends of friends or people I met in hobby groups.

That being said, I think it depends. I know some people who mostly prefer to meet in bars, at church, at work, etc. Some people (myself included) prefer OLD. Depends on what circles you run in and what you’re looking for

No. For most Zoomers dating app means casual hookups and casual hookups and not real relationships. If one wants a real relationship they avoid it. 100% or Zoomers I known that are in relationships found their SO was when their friend group hung out with a friend group of the opposite sex. Weird how old fashioned that sounds.

I’m 22 and met my partner through a friend of a friend, while dating apps are super mainstream I think you can still find what you’re looking for elsewhere. (This is coming from someone who got fed up with dating apps and swore off them before finding my partner)
