People often say that relationships with large age gaps are wrong with one of the main reasons, being that the person likely has less life experience and a diminished mental capacity which creates a power dynamic. A problem with this is that there's no single life experience connected with age but rather a assumption of where people 'should be'. This also ignores that the person is an adult and should be trusted to make their own decisions as well as many other 'unbalanced' power dynamics in relationships of any age, such as money, assets, family, options, etc.

But specifically I want to focus on people with mental illnesses which seems to be an increasing. Many people allegedly have anxiety, or autism, or some kind of mental health issue which is a burden on their life. Mental illness is a diminished function of the brain in some way and mentally ill people are more likely to be taken advantage of including in relationships. Unlike age this is inherent to (most) mental health issue where as it's not with age, yet people don't see this relationships as an issue, and in fact, they are often applauded. I think this is proof that the hate for age gap relationships isn't due to unbalanced power dynamics.

So if you think age gaps are wrong, then you must then people dating others with mental health issues is also an issue.
