Why the past matters…

We often hear the repeated refrain that the past is the past and does not matter. In an ideal world where the past does not influence the present and future, that might be true. However, we do not live in an ideal world.

Let me explain a scenario that is well documented, studied, and occurs frequently. A woman is raised in a very strict home. The parents are controlling, maybe religious (not a requirement) and push purity. Once she goes to college or has any freedom whatsoever she rebels. One way to rebel sexually with hookups or even quick sexual engagement with boyfriends. Usually this manifests as anxious attachment. Sex is quick to secure attachment. It can be intense and very frequent. It is a way to soothe anxiety, feel wanted, avoid abandonment. She feels sexually free, unjudged, desired, etc.

Then she meets a guy she actually sees a future with, a long-term partner or marriage. She believes she needs to present herself virtuous and delays sex. She can feel immense internal shame for past behaviors with prior men. Shame obliterates desire. That shame can often associate with sex. Because the long-term partner or husband is stable, then her sex drive and desire plummets. Sex is used for control, the fear of being judged, and it is viewed as something she gives to her husband versus a shared experience. Duty sex is the norm. There is a lack of passion or desire on her part. Internally she has associated with sex as a thing you do as a bad person or rebellious. Marriage is about being a good wife, mother, etc. She has separated desire/sex from a loving committed relationship. This leads to high rates of divorce ultimately. The husband’s sense of self-worth plummets. He believes his wife does not love or desire him even though she may love him immensely more than any other man. The stability he affords and her shame response to sex has poisoned their relationship from the beginning.

This often takes individual therapy on her part and couples therapy and could take years to untangle. This is why the past matters. A man needs to understand what dysfunction he is potentially signing up for when a woman starts showing these behaviors. Knowing a bit about the past can help him decide if he is up for this ride or to opt out. It isn’t about judging her. It is giving him agency to decide to proceed or not.

This can manifest with someone who had 3, 30 or 300 prior partners. The number itself is not relevant in this specific scenario. Sleeping quickly with others and then all of a sudden making a man way is a yellow flag. It may not be this at all. Certainly someone can simply change their tactics in dating, but it could absolutely be this issue. It is quite common and no unusual and leads to many broken hearts and failed marriages. The man leaves because he feels unwanted, de-valued while simultaneously she cannot understand why the man she loves more than anything wants a divorce.

This example in no way suggests a mans past does not matter and cannot have similarly damaging aspects towards a relationship.

Anyone else getting tired of women's Motte & Bailey argument of men's n-count preferences being about tone?

Their true argument, the Bailey, is that men preferring low n-count women is always presumptuous, misogynist and ultimately invalid. To make that easier to defend though, women present another argument, the Motte, by saying it's not that men prefer low n-count women that's the problem, but the way they present that preference.

But honestly, do you really think women react permissively even when a man neutrally states he prefers low n-count women? In my experience, they really don't and always at least question, often attack, the man for his preference.

I think similar to how women claim they have a "personality detector" to detect hidden personality traits like misogyny, bitterness and entitlement in men, it should be noted that us men have a "n count detector".

Women here are often like "how would anyone ever know my count, I can just lie about it" but n count is not just a number, it's a way of life. It seeps into the way you talk, carry yourself etc. and we can pick up on it.

Alright, I think I can chime in.

Some men and women sleep around. Some men and women don't sleep around and have sex within relationships. Some men and women want virgins. Some men and women are inbetween.

There are a plethora of people that have their own view on sex and intimacy. There are women/men/persons who share your own view. The best bet is to date someone who shares your view on sex and intimacy, in this case body count and hookups. I know I do, I know all of my friends do. I know that everytime (except one) there has been an imbalance, for example one guy whoring around while the woman was a virgin, leads to conflict and eventually the relationship crumbling. Having standards when it comes to dating is normal and expected, you should not be shamed for that.

I think everyone can agree with me on this. Okay? Dismissed.

As someone who has always been attracted to older, more experienced women - the idea of a more experienced woman showing me the ropes was hot when I was young and inexperienced.

Then I realized that women hate the idea of guiding someone less experienced than them.

So not only do women as a whole complain about men not accepting high n-count women, the high n-count women themselves are not attracted to inexperience in men, unless they have to tolerate it because the man brings other benefits to the table.
