Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the concept of blind dating is practiced much anymore in the United States (I'm unsure about other Western nations). As a 20-year-old, I don't know anyone my age who has met somebody on a blind date.

However, I recently learned that blind dating is very much alive in countries like South Korea. A friend or family member often recommends a person to an individual and they will meet for coffee or something. This is similar to how my parents met. My Mom's friend was cousins with my Dad and thought they would be a good match.

I feel like this will alleviate some of the issues created by dating apps. Presumably, your friends and family members would know the type of person you are looking for. It would also minimize safety concerns because the person has been vetted by people you know.

An issue I see with this is that since it is now uncommon in our society, it could be considered awkward to ask the people you know to set you up on a date. Also, a growing number of adults in the United States don't have an active social circle so they may simply not know enough people.

Personally, I plan on never using a dating app so I will rely on meeting people through my social circles, but I think blind dates would be interesting because it could introduce me to people that may not be in my direct circle.

What do you guys think?
