The fact that there is even an argument about wether this is rape or not in the comments is saddening
[–]Aeponix 41 points42 points43 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I understand why. It's debatable whether or not it's rape if the genders are reversed as well.
Just because it's legally considered rape doesn't mean it is publically considered rape. I personally think the maturity difference and power difference are factors that make this kind of relationship something to be avoided, but that is an educated opinion, not a scientific fact.
Plenty of men and women would be perfectly happy to have had an illicit relationship with a teacher as a teenager.
I think our laws regarding this type of behavior are a conservative measure to protect our children, and sometimes may be unnecessary. However, I think they generally are the lesser evil.
It would be nice if male and female perpetrators were treated the same, however.

Because she is a rapist, and people are trying to argue that fact
[–]mwobuddy -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Really? I guess I didnt read the OP close enough. So she held down someone or drugged them or otherwise used them against their will?
[–]Azure_Triedge 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That’s not the definition of rape, and she preformed a sexual act with a minor, that’s statutory rape.
[–]mwobuddy -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
That’s not the definition of rape
Actually it is.
Rape definition is - unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will
So as far as I understand you, violating the law regarding age of consent makes it rape.
Thus a 16 year old in UK, Canada, or Nevada, is not a rape victim even if they're having sex with a 60 year old, but a 16 year old in New York, Florida, or California IS a rape victim if they're having sex with a 60 year old, when, for all intents and purposes, their claims of consenting and seeming willingness is either rape or not rape because of what country/state.
Is your only feeling on this issue whether or not a law was broken?
[–]Azure_Triedge 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Of course not. Any action with a minor is disgusting no matter where it is and will always be seen as rapists in my eyes as a child can not give consent. In this case, she raped him, and she got off free. Which is disgusting.
[–]mwobuddy -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
So you feel that a 16 year old is being legally raped by a 60 year old in Nevada or the UK simply because the age of consent is too low, or do you think that since it is legal it isn't rape? In those areas the law suggests they can give that consent. I want to make sure I have it right, that you believe adults are getting away with rape in those areas?
[+][deleted] -32 points-31 points-30 points 7 years ago (42 children) | Copy Link
It's not rape, by definition a Woman cannot rape a Man. Therefor legally it's not.
[–]Azure_Triedge 20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago* (38 children) | Copy Link
I know and that’s an issue that should be fixed. But that shouldn’t change the fact that this kid is gonna go through the same emotional trauma that a girl who got legally raped will go through. Emotionally and morally, she raped him. Legally she did not.
The federal definition of rape is
“The forced penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth with a penis or other foreign object”
This means that the only way for a woman to rape someone they have to use a strap on. It’s fucked but what can we do about it when people are to busy debating over unimportant shit
[–]Major_Languid 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
I disagree with you on that definition meaning women can’t rape. That could be used to say that a woman forced a man to penetrate them.
[–]Azure_Triedge 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That’s true, but in most cases it’s never seen that way, like the story a couple weeks ago of the woman who raped her ex but she wasn’t charged with rape
[–]Major_Languid 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I didn’t hear about that story, but you’re right, it usually isn’t used that way and most people don’t see it that way.
[+][deleted] -12 points-11 points-10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You don't know what trauma he went through so you can't say that.
And yes that is the definition of rape, like I said a Woman cannot rape a Man (now I've learnt at least not naturally.)
[–]FlatTire2005 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Even with that definition, a man could be raped by a woman. There are more body parts than just penises that can be inserted in people.

[–]Azure_Triedge 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link
It’s people like you that are the issue, who think it’s ok and that the boy is lucky and “I wish I were him”. Do you see anyone saying that if it was a female who got oral sex from a teacher? No. It’s a double standard and it’s what the people on this sub fight against.
[+][deleted] -10 points-9 points-8 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Men sexually are different and it's very common for that to be a reaction. If you study biology in humans you would understand the need for this, unfortunately we no longer live in the wilderness.
[–]Azure_Triedge 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
That doesn’t change the fact that she took advantage of a minor, wether it was consensual or not she gave oral sex to a minor. She should be jailed for it but she is not, yet if a male teacher gave oral sex to a minor he would be publicly executed (figuratively). That is my issue with this situation. The fact that punishments are never consistent and rapists like her get away with it.
[–]Stewart_Smith-3 points 7 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link
You don't know that, 'took advantage' makes it sound like he did not give consent which you don't know. Also you don't know if you took a Male counterpart he would have a worse punishment. Facts > Opinions.
[–]jlevy1126 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
We do know he couldn't consent. He was 14, a child. A child cannot give consent.
[–]Stewart_Smith-1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Legally no, but a 14 year old can agree to sex therefor less traumatic on his half.
[–]BlaisePascal1123 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Are you high? Children cannot give consent.
[–]BlaisePascal1123 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
[–]Azure_Triedge 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Consent does not matter here. He is underage and she isn’t. You are defending pedophilia rn. And also I do know if it was a man he would be punished because it’s happened before, look at any story of a man and a female student and look at any story of a woman and a male student. The difference in punishment isn’t even funny.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Consent does matter in the context of this argument, they agreed to have sex although legally it's rape. It would be different if the Women forcefully had sex with him; therefor less traumatic on the 14 year old. I'm defending my opinion that because they may have agreed to consent and the condition that sexually boys react differently to girls in sexual situations that it would have been less traumatic for the boy.
' also I do know if it was a man he would be punished because it’s happened before, look at any story of a man and a female student and look at any story of a woman and a male student.'
Still does not mean you would know if you took this exact same situation in every context then took her Male counterpart. Facts > Opinions.

Do you know why there are laws forbidding sex with minors consent or not? Because they don’t have the ability to make correct decisions yet, hence why any sex underage is considered rape. Just because males are horny during puberty does not mean they can be taken advantage of by an adult. Consent or no consent.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's an opinion whether they have the ability to make correct decisions, of course I agree with very young children. We don't know if the teacher 'took advantage' because that makes it sound like it was forced, he may have given total consent.
[–]Azure_Triedge 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Ok but he is 14. You are telling me you never made any bad decisions in your life around that time. There are laws for a reason. It’s not opinion it’s law. The fact there are people out there defending this disgusts me
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Laws are formed from opinions from what is right and wrong. I'm not telling you I have not made bad decisions when I was not 14 but what I am saying is 14 year old's have the conscious ability to make correct decisions.

But the teacher should be mature and smart enough to know that it is illegal to do anything sexual with a minor. She knew exactly what she was doing and now she is getting off free for it. There are many different definitions of rape. Some countries do not have it in gender neutral way, but some do.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Rape constitutes as penetration against a persons will, including men. A woman can still rape a man via sodomisation. Dont spout bullshit.
Also, rape is almost synonymous with sexual assault, which a woman can do to a man. Whilst it isnt 'rape', it's still just as bad.

What makes it rape when she's older?
Because she's an adult, not a 14 year old child. Also because the law defines what she did as rape. That's how laws work.
it's not about the child's behavior, it's about the adults.

Oral sex is considered sodomy. I think technically it would be considered lewd acts with a child. But I think calling it rape is fair considering it holds pretty much the same connotation.

Not if she was consenting and he didn't pressure her, even though it's still wrong. And it's not the same as this case since she didn't gain any pleasure from it, she was the one doing the sucking.
[+]mwobuddy -35 points-34 points-33 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
14 year olds who rape by threat of knife are treated as criminals. Clearly, we can consider a 14 year old a rapist. So why is it not rape if its a 14 year old having sex with another 14 year old? In many states, it actually IS rape if this happens because the states have no R&J law.
Also because the law defines what she did as rape.
As above, that therefore means you agree with the law claiming 14 on 14 is rape, in states where there is no R&J exception. IF you disagree, you're implicitly saying one of two things: either you believe the law is correct when you have subjectively decided it, or that the law doesnt' NECESSARILY make something true.
If you believe 14 on 14 isn't rape while the law claims it is, then those are your two options. ANd if something the law states isn't NECESSARILY true, then you can't hide your reasoning behind "its rape because the law says so". If you believe that the law is wrong when it comes to two 14 year olds, then you can't say "its rape because the law says so" because you seem capable of making your own determination of when rape actually occurs.
We used to have black people as property. Because the law said they were property, did that prove black people were property? The fact those laws were abolished says people found the law to be in error.
If one law can be in error, then how can you be so sure here?
[–]Ocedei 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

[–]Zebrabox 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not strawman. It is ad hominem. (Attacking their character and not the argument.)
[–]xthorgoldx -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Actually, it's not ad hominem. People tend to mistake insults as being ad hominem, even though it has no relation to how or why it's a fallacy. Ad hominem is saying that a person's argument is incorrect because of their identity. The arguer's identity does not have an intrinsic impact on the logic of their statements. Example:
Alice: A is A Bob: You're wrong because you're a woman.
Compare this to "Arguing with insults"
Alice: A is A Bob: A is not A; also, you're a woman.
Certainly not the best debate etiquette, but it's not a logical fallacy.
[–]xthorgoldx 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
That's not a strawman. A strawman would be responding to your argument as if you were claiming it's okay to have sex with babies - an exaggeration or falsification of your stance in order to make it easier to argue against. Nor is it ad hominem. Ad hominem is dismissing an argument on the basis of the speaker's identity. "You're wrong because you're a pedophile" is ad hominem. "You're wrong and are a pedophile" isn't ad hominem, it's just an insult.
This is neither of those things, though - it's a separate argument entirely, consisting of "You are possibly a pedophile, based on this evidence."
Which means your dismissal is, itself, a Fallacy Fallacy.

[–]DucksRow 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ll answer the question.
No, it is not rape for a 14 year old to blow another, because they are the same age and most likely at the same stage of maturity (most would agree that this is the age of sexual curiosity and exploration). If the blower in this instance were older than the blowee (or vice versa) by say a mere 4 years (being only 18 years old) then it is rape at a statutory level and that’s because..... IT.IS.THE.LAW. Simple as that.
[–]kantomasterspencer 25 points26 points27 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
Semantics okay, so is it okay if a 30 year old dude fucks a 14 year old girl in your eyes? Nothing manipulative about that?
[–]mwobuddy -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_manipulation
Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the behavior or perception of others through abusive, deceptive, or underhanded tactics.
If none of this is happening, then there is no manipulative behavior going on. Unless you disagree with what constitutes manipulative.
If you want to make a claim of what is manipulative which extends beyond this 'normal' definition, we can go from there.
Semantics okay
seems like MRAs care a FUCKTON about semantics when "women can't be charged with rape by law, only sexual assault".
You still haven't answered the question.
[–]Drewbixtx 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
No it’s not rape for a 14 year old to blow another, at least in the eyes of the general public. Reason for this is because they are both adolescent and unable to make the best decisions. Adolescence is notable for having hormones and lack of maturity that make us do stupid things.
Therefore, what she did is, or should be, considered rape, because she, an adult capable of making a mature and informed decision of a sexual nature, took advantage of him, a hormone addled adolescent without the capability of making a mature and informed decision of a sexual nature, by convincing an adolescent beneath the age of consent, to allow her to blow him. That isn’t legal.
[–]mwobuddy -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No it’s not rape for a 14 year old to blow another, at least in the eyes of the general public.
Its still rape by law in most places. Even the UK.
Reason for this is because they are both adolescent and unable to make the best decisions. Adolescence is notable for having hormones and lack of maturity that make us do stupid things.
A 14 year old convincing other teens to do drugs or steal is considered to be motivating others and is guilty.
A 14 year old who uses a knife to commit rape or murder is guilty.
By these two standards, we recognize that 14 year olds can be guilty of harm to others.
Therefore, sex against a 14 year old, being inherently harmful, should be, and often is, treated as the agent/provocateur 14 year old as the guilty party, raping/molesting the other.
Therefore, what she did is, or should be, considered rape, because she, an adult capable of making a mature and informed decision of a sexual nature, took advantage of him, a hormone addled adolescent without the capability of making a mature and informed decision of a sexual nature
Hormones are still a problem past 18. Brain development doesnt finish until the 40's. In fact, hormones actually drive women HARDER when they hit around 30. Their libido is on the same level as a 16 year old male, comparatively, a 40 year old male's libido as is low as a 16 year old female.
its a "one last chance to bear children" drive, but it drives them harder. And again, the brain isnt mature until the 40's.
a hormone addled adolescent without the capability of making a mature and informed decision of a sexual nature, by convincing an adolescent beneath the age of consent, to allow her to blow him.
a 14 year old convincing another 14 year old to blow them is convincing someone beneath age of consent and unable to make mature, informed decisions to have sex acts.
if the concept is "anyone who convinces people to make sex decisions when they're young and uninformed is criminal", then 14 year olds would also be criminal.

Yeah the 14 year old is waaaaay too mentally immature to be with a 30 year old. Regardless of gender in any direction.
Like two people of the same age is waaaay different. They are close to the same maturity. Still weird.
14 year old and 17 year old is too much of a maturity gap. Let alone twice the age.
The 14 year old may think they want it but they can’t handle it yet. Easily being manipulated. That’s kinda what manipulating does.

If two 14 year olds have oral sex, then who is raping who? Rape requires a victim and a perpetrator. When a 30 year old blows a 14 year old, it is quite clear who is raping who.
[–]mwobuddy -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The person who incited the indecent act. There's always a primary aggressor.
For instance, if we had an 8 year old and 14 year old, we'd clearly point to the 14 year old as a rapist/primary aggressor. Thus we can recognize that a 14 year old is capable of inciting a child to indecent acts and thus being a victimizer of the person who 'consented' in response to sexual demands.

These sorts of things are more about the court system's awareness that the jury might be biased toward women, not because the criminal justice system itself is always biased toward women. Most of the time, you only see that when a judge gives a light sentence to someone who was convicted by a jury of their peers. Far more often than not, the prosecution is making a plea deal.
In this case... Honestly, she's going to have this on her record at least until she's 47, since she's 29 right now. That means she's almost certainly not getting access to a children's classroom until then unless she finds a supremely desperate district.

Probably as a plea to secure a guilty conviction/avoid possible not guilty at trial.
Biased plea offerings are one of the main reasons why the crimal court is currently biased against men. It's a way out for the prosecutor, so they don't get stuck with "attacked a poor defensless woman" on their record.
...
So why are we not supposed to care?
If her plea was a harsh offer the lawyer would encourage a not guilty conviction then it goes to trial or further court dates costing the state more money. I agree with you I think she should get jail time.

As a father of a 14 year old boy - I find this kind of behavior disgusting and sickening. It's child molestation pure and simple. Having sex with a 17 year old male? I can get that. A 14 year old is a boy.

"That's not something a 14 year old would be doing" Yeah that's just not true. I lost my virginity around that age and got head for the first time when I was 13. Kids, especially teens who are in highschool (14 is 8th - 9th so a freshman) are 100% doing sexual things. Sorry to burst your bubble man.
[–]proXy_HazaRD 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I knew a couple freshman who are known for having sex alot but most of them are the ones that are 15. Let me correct myself on that I'm not saying that it doesn't happen I'm saying it isn't as likely to happen and more so if it does it's not as bad as when a grown woman is raping a 14 year old if it's bad at all.

But you admit that 15 year olds are raping each other, yes? After all, there is a lack of capability to consent present in both instances.
[–]proXy_HazaRD 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
No. I admit that the issue is blurry when it applies to kids who are both 15 and otherwise consenting for most intents and purposes. But I stand by saying it's clear that an adult shouldn't be having sex with these kids.
No. I admit that the issue is blurry when it applies to kids who are both 15 and otherwise consenting for most intents and purposes
its not blurry at all.
I think I might be able to see why you're having confusion. Can an unconscious person consent at any time? What is the ability to consent?

You're too sick to understand that's not something a 14 year old will be doing
There were 4 teen pregnancies in my 7th grade class of 100 kids. Those are 12-13 year olds. As soon as kids hit puberty (usually 12y/o) they will be wanting those things. Hell, I was jacking off by the time I was 9.
pedo are fucking nasty ass low-lifes. But you're very fucking naive if you think 14 year olds aren't fucking.

At the risk of being featured on r/ihavesex,
As a band and rotc nerd with no friends in highschool, I still got some head in the MTG club. It's everywhere, and you can't stop it no matter how hard you try.
Hell my first sexual experience was at 12, when my friend down the block asked to see what a penis is and started playing with it when I obliged.
It's unavoidable, and you pretending it won't happen is more dangerous than preparing for it happening, you're one of those parents that doesn't make condoms available to their teen and is SHOCKED when they get a girl pregnant. Kinda your fuckin fault too there superdad.
Your 14 year old son is a rape victim and that should never be made light of (the bitch should've done prison time), but don't pretend he's an innocent angel that isn't looking for nookie from his 14 year old gf, that's the most detached from reality as I've ever seen someone.
[–]proXy_HazaRD 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I'm not the parent or a parent but if I was I'd buy my kid condoms I'd rather not have them getting someone pregnant or getting pregnant.
What I meant to get across was a 14 year old isn't that likely to get alot of sex atleast where I'm from. Yeah it happens but it isn't as frequent as with say highschoolers.
More so it's less damaging for two 14 year olds to have sex than an adult to molest that kid.
Finally I was defending the parent because the other guy accused him of wanting to have sex with his son's hypothetical gf
[+]f__ckyourhappiness -6 points-5 points-4 points 7 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link
I don't know a single person who hadn't had sexual experiences before they hit highschool. I mean r/incels was a thing, so it must happen, but you're highly underestimating the frequency of the occurance.
He also didn't accuse the other person of wanting to have sex with the son's gf, he accused the father of believing it would be rape if the son had sex with the same-age gf, which is still fallicious logic in itself, but your response was a tad ridiculous.
>and you go after her too
implies legally, not sexually.
Edit: Alright sorry, I didn't mean to group everyone that hadn't had sex in with the incel group, I simply meant that that demographic proved virgins exist past highschool. Some of you hold to your personal morals strongly and I salute you for your resolve. Mea Culpa.
[–]proXy_HazaRD 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

None of this is a counterargument. It actually reads like a young teenager's vitriol. Why do you feel any differently to a 30 year old woman who abuses your child vs a 14 year old?
[–]Dimblydug 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link
It’s different if a 30 year old molests a 14 year old, because they are in a position of power as a teacher and there is an age difference. What are you even arguing?

That's not the relevant point. The relevant point is that he should feel the same way if he had a teenager who gets a blowjob from another teenager. Because in either case his child could not consent.

[–]mwobuddy -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
you are prefacing your argument on an underlying assumption, that the first is 'experimenting', and the second is 'taking advantage'.

They are equivalent in that in both instances, the recipient of sex acts is unable to consent. Yet you're going to allow one and disallow the other, suggesting you are not interested in protecting individuals from harmful acts.
[–]MasterDex 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Consent isn't the issus here. One is kids experimenting. The other is a person in a position of power manipulating a child for their sexual gratification. It doesn't matter if the kid consents or not. That shit is wrong.
Seriously, you're trying to argue for pedophilia. Do I need to report you to the authorities?
The problem is you're using Loaded Language to suggest that one is implicitly okay and the other is implicitly not okay, then you're claiming that because a person is suggesting that both should be seen as not okay and not just one, that person is 'arguing for pedophilia'. If they can't consent, then those who are using them are harming them.
try again.
[–]MasterDex 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Try again? Your comments are arguing FOR pedophilia, not against. Honestly, I'm done. You need to get your head checked - or possibly caved in - before you harm a child.

Kids can’t consent and are less culpable of a criminal act because they lack an adult’s understanding of consent, morals, ethics, responsibility, knowledge, wisdom, reason, foresight, and so on.
An adult with a child means that one of the two of them knows better.

[–]jointedspagel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The title of your post does not say enough about its subject. This forces people to click and read before they can decide whether they are interested. It also makes searching impossible.
If everyone did this, the subreddit would become unusable.
So please don't do it. Take the time to describe your link, and save the time of hundreds of other people.
When making a title, it's best to assume the reader doesn't know what you're talking about - but don't go overboard with every detail. Then check if there are any words you can cut out without losing any important information.

The fact that a man teaching can get kicked out of teaching, put on registry and probably jail too for an accusation of him doing wrong. Simple things such as staring at wrong place, talking wrong about her and making her uncomfortable or touching her breast.
I couldn't for the life of me imagine a male teacher allowing a felame 14 year old suck his dick while retaing their job.

Of the thirty or so times I saw this story, this is the shittiest version yet. A screenshot of a picture, headline and subhead with no link to the full article. Plus, it says she won't be banned from the classroom. She got to keep her teaching certificate so could possibly teach adults in the future. She will be on the sex offender registry, and won't be teaching middle school again, so "will not be banned from the classroom" is very misleading.

in europe the age of consent is usually 15 (it used to be 13 in spain but they changed it) and yet people are outraged only if it's a 15yo girl with a >18yo boy.
in this case, the power dynamic is the main concern and if the genders were reversed home depot would run out of pitchforks

I am not really referring to this subreddit, but I do have to say that this subreddit has the problem that many activist type subreddits have that they focus on the problem and proving it exists, but they don't focus on solutions. I think if this subreddit really wants to help men, it has to quit letting other people hold us down, and will have to provide a positive influence for men itself. That is why someone like Jordan Peterson is so great for young adults/men , because instead of focusing everything on showing that there is a problem, he focuses on the solution. We can cry all we want that the system is unfair, but that will not help the men who are suffering right now.
[–]Rockztar 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I completely agree with you. I don't have a horse in this race from the viewpoint of being an American man. I'm mostly interested in the democratic aspects of it, and how the rhetoric unfolds.
The problem I see here is that there's many instances of men trying to speak out in reasonable ways, but receiving backlash for it. A notable case being James Damore. So I believe these echo chambers arise, because this is one way for men to safely express themselves, but it's hard to mobilize in the current environment. As you may know, there's a problem with people perceiving Jordan Peterson as a misogynist and alt-right winger due to his portrayal by some of the people that disgree with him, and in the media.
But that's part of the issue in the first place. It's ironic that there exist people prone to calling other people like Jordan fascists while at the same time introducing compelled speech. So I see Jordan as a proponent of reestablishing the arena for a democratic discourse, which seems to be what's really needed right now. Even as much as he tries to further the idea of learning through debating and talking to people, I'd say he at times fails to follow his own principles. For example, I've never seen him actually take his opponent's argument, and make it stronger, which is something he has advocated in his own lectures, such as in long-term relationships, where a person has trouble expressing an otherwise reasonable argument to their partner.
However, that just goes to show in some way, how hard it is to have a fair and logical debate. I actually think he's good for the most part at sticking with logos and ethos(mostly ethos in the sense that he has researched a lot of the topics that he speaks about for many years) in debates cluttered with appeal to emotions, ad hominem attacks or straw men.
But she's not allowed to teach kids though.
Whether you're you think she should have gotten more punishment is one issue.
What I want to know however, is, would a man be allowed to continue teaching, even if just teaching adults, if he had performed oral sex on a teenage student (male or female)?
Can anyone point to a past case in which a manm performed oral sex on his high school student, but was allowed to continue teaching adults in higher education?

You may have thought you could, but you couldn’t. Even on the massively improbable chance that you were, that’s confirmation bias. Multiple studies have proven that 14 year olds are not capable.
You can be aroused by scenarios and fantasizing, it’s not completely physical.
Fucking moron. It is a natural reaction to physical contact to be aroused. That isn’t excused by the fact that “it isn’t always physical.” That’s fucking horrendous logic. Being able to fantasize means you can’t be raped? Fuck outta here.

[–]grandmasbroach 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That is social constructionism of gender. Try again... Tabula rasa has nothing to do with this, because the people we are referring to aren't babies. So, tabula rasa doesn't apply.
Blank slates means no genetic influence. Social construction of gender is a tabula rasa argument.
[–]grandmasbroach 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You'd have to make the assumption that I was pushing a blank state ideal. When in reality, just because you compare males and females, doesn't mean tabula rasa has anything to do with it. Again, you'd need to assume that the other person subscribes to that idea first, and that they don't assume a biological determinism model.
Just because you compare males and females, doesn't mean you can't be a blank slate propenent, a biological type of constructionism, or a mix of both. It is completely irrelevant here. You are using it in a very vague way, when it has a very specific definition.
Sorry duder, but you're just wrong on this one. You don't know which way I lean in that regard, and therefor, can't say for certain if I'm making a tabula rasa type of argument. I wasn't btw...
This has more to do with cultural norms and how society views this topic. Again, tabula rasa has nothing at all to do with it, plain and simple. In fact, I personally think biology has more to do with it. Mainly, because I am a biologist. So, what do I know about this stuff anyways... Lol
That's a specious argument: "im X therefore I know".
Tabula rasa means blank slate, as in "genetics dont matter, people are empty vessels", which is ANTI-biology, just as "genders are social constructs and a boy can be made to play like a girl if he isn't programmed socially" is also ANTI-biology.

Okay lets break down your argument.
Its a fantasy. Do you also fantasize about peers as a teen as well as teachers? If your fantasy coming to fruition is bad, then both would be, right? In fact, neither will be like a fantasy.
You may want to call it off, but she won't let you. If you do, your b turns to an f. Your homework mysteriously never got turned in. She let's it slip that you are being a stupid little perv.
That's called discriminatory behavior and abuse and reason to fire the teacher.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
And it's the reason why we don't let teachers and students fraternize. The teacher has years of maturity not to mention authority over the student. The reason you can date in the office, is because there's a reasonable idea that all parties are mature enough to have their own agency. It's the reason we don't let minors vote or drink....they are too young for those responsibilities.
If you cant understand these premises, we cant move forward in this conversation.
Edit:
I misread your example. The point remains, though. Your peers have relatively comparable maturity as you as a teen and they have no authority over you. That's why it's fine for teens to date each other.
The teacher has years of maturity not to mention authority over the student. The reason you can date in the office
So you could technically date an 18 year old as a 40 year old in the office, and potentially as a boss, and despite authority and 'years of maturity' that's cool.
Man...the goalposts were here...now they are way the hell over there!
Its heavily looked down on but it's legal. When you draw lines in the sand like age of consent, you'll run into these issues. An 18 year is considered to have agency, so they can make the decision to date or not date a 40 year old. If it's their boss, they can choose to leave that job. Kids don't have a choice in going to school.
I really don't know what you are arguing for. You want it to be ok for students to date teachers?
Another reason to fire a teacher is raping a little boy.
Rape is also a reason to fire a teacher...you know this right?
yes, we both agree that anyone who commits rape should be fired from teaching (if not at the very least put in prison).
Who are you arguing against?

14 year old me would have been willing to pay that price. Never having sexual encounters scars you too. Everyone is different, some people can handle it. It is only fairly recently that 14 year olds were not sexually active. When the average life expectancy is 35-40 things move quickly.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
When you are 14 you have not fully developed physically or mentally. Maybe during early human times people had sex at 14 years old, but also during early human times people owned slaves, people raped each other all the time, bestiality and pedophilia were common. Should we allow those things to happen also? We are not living in a time where the life expectancy of a human is 20 years old. We are not living in pre-historic times. We are living in a modern society where kids should not be having sex-relations with adults. Even if a 14 year old is mature enough to have sex with an adult, why is it such a big deal that an adult would have to wait till the kid turns 18 before engaging in sex with them? What is the big deal with having to wait till someone turns 18? There are billions of people in the world who are over the age of 18. You can fuck them, but kids are off limits. Period.
[–]npr_is_pravda 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My argument is that it is not as traumatizing for the 14 year old to have sex with his teacher as people are making it out to be. Should the age of consent be 18? That is reasonable to me. Is having sex with someone under the age of consent illegal and unethical? Yes. But people really need to shut the fuck up about this being a crime against humanity. The kid got blown by his teacher. He will most likely survive this, because sex at that age is not unnatural, just illegal at the moment. The age of consent could be upped to 25 in a hundred years and the 18 year olds being "raped" will also survive the experience, because humans have a hundred thousand years behind them. Societal norms changing only recently only makes for perceived trauma and not actual harm. This would all be simple to grasp for someone with the tiniest bit of understanding of evolutionary biology.
This entire argument is bad. Its just as bad as saying "hey they did this in the past, so its right". you're saying "we don't do this now, so its right". Its not a valid form of argument.
What is the big deal with having to wait till someone turns 18? There are billions of people in the world who are over the age of 18. You can fuck them, but kids are off limits. Period.
And you're actually wrong here. Most of the world, and most of the U.S., has an age of consent of 16, so ostensibly most adults could 'fuck kids', if you're making a bright line distinction of kid vs adult at 17 vs 18. In that case, seems like a lot of human rights violations are possible in 'fucking kids'.

Just because it's usually bad if an adult has sex with a teenager, doesn't mean it's always bad. Many guys at 14 are sexually active. Without knowing the person and the circumstance we can't possible draw conclusions. Maybe the teenager came onto the teacher? Maybe the teacher coerced him into it. Maybe she was his first partner, maybe she was his 10th.
Pretty safe to say she shouldn't be a teacher anymore because you should not be able to hook up with your students, but I don't necessarily think she belongs in jail. She might, but it depends on the situation and how the teenager feels and was treated.

Sorry, but I wouldn’t agree that’s the same thing, even if it’s probably defined in that way. Now don’t get me wrong. I still think it’s morally wrong and is correct to be criminalized and equally penalized, but picture being two years over the age of consent and having “mutually agreed” sex with someone who is one year under the age of consent, is still different from being thirty and exploiting a six year old.
It’s still morally wrong but can the two still be equally categorized under rape? I’d say the earlier is taking sexual advantage and the later is both rape and pedophilia.

Age of consent
The age of consent is the age below which a minor is considered to be legally incompetent to consent to sexual acts. Consequently, an adult who engages in sexual activity with a minor younger than the age of consent cannot claim that the sexual activity was consensual, and such sexual activity may be considered statutory rape. The person below the minimum age is regarded as the victim and his or her sex partner is regarded as the offender, unless both are underage. The purpose of setting an age of consent is to protect an underage person from sexual advances.
Ages of consent in the United States
In the United States, age of consent laws regarding sexual activity are made at the state level. There are several federal statutes related to protecting minors from sexual predators, but laws regarding specific age requirements for sexual consent are left to individual states, territories, and the District of Columbia. Depending on the jurisdiction, legal age of consent ranges from 16 to 18 years old. In some places, civil and criminal laws within the same state conflict with each other.

It’s not pretending. I get what you mean by “force” and the dictionary definition, but the legal definition is different in different countries. In America, based on Freudian psychology, it is argued that people under the age of 14-15 are not prone to making right decisions by themselves, so decisions made by adults are forceful in a sense as it is made by an authoritative figure. Therefore, it’s rape. You can petition to change the law if you want though- no one’s stopping you from fighting the legal way

Rape is something which should be defined by the victim not society. Even a kid is underage iy it not necessarily rape. Weather it be male x female or female x male. However it is still wrong to have sexual realtions with a kid.
People undermind what actual rape is when they call everything rape. Now if the 2 people were consenting I'd say up to 3 years in prison if not 15 years to life depending on severity.
However the point is that females get away with fucking kids and aren't seen as pedophiles but sexy cougars and its sickening.its sickening that if a male did this regardless of consent or not he'd get 20 years - life. This woman deserves 3 years in prison. If it was a male he'd deserve the exact same amount of time.
[–]yolo_swag_tyme 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A pedophile has sex with pre pubescant children. Women would not get away with that.
Having sex with a young teenager is more tolerated in our society because our society is made up of people who used to be young teenagers who were either having sex or wanting to have sex. Boys (on average) tend to want to have sex at a younger age. Girls (on average) tend to the more selective and are more likely to wait until they either know their partner more or they are older. This is why we have a "double standard" when a girl Vs a guy is a "victim"... We assume that if a girl has sex with an older man she must have been coerced (and likely would not have the physical strength to resist if she wanted to), but if a guy has sex with an older women he got super lucky. Victim is in quotes because its up to the person to decide if they are a victim or not, not for you to decide.

Okay. Female having sex with an underage male is worse, and this is why: With a male teacher and female student, the teacher takes advantage of the moment. The girl is attracted to him and he takes advantage of that. Which is also bad. I don't condone sex between teacher and student regardless of genders. With a female teacher and male student, the female teacher creates the moment. She plots how to get into his life, often times the parents trust her enough to let their child be with her outside school hours. The female teacher pretends to have the boys best interest in mind and manipulates the situation so it appears that way. Many of the female teachers have also provided drugs and alcohol, possession of which adds to the boys ego. The female teacher builds up the student, manipulating him to believe he is more mature and cool than what he really is. When anyone finds out and it hits the fan, he gets blamed for what happened. He is just a pawn to her sexual game. That is wrong and why it is worse. One is taking advantage of the situation, the other is creating the situation to get what you want. Crime of opportunity vs. premeditated crime

I used to think that term was over reaching as well, but never pathetic or a joke.
I don't apply that framing to myself still despite experiencing sexual assault 3 times as a child.
Having said that, if the guys feel better using that term I don't mind. The guys I work with do feel like they survived something that has an ongoing impact on their lives. So it makes sense to me.

If anything, a young, teenage boy is less sexually mature than a girl of the same age: girls hit puberty on average two years earlier. Laws are sometimes dumb and we have to arbitrarily draw the line somewhere. 14, 16 or 18, but somewhere we draw the line.
There could be serious consequences of having sex: STDs, unwanted pregnancy, heartbreak, suicide etc. We make having sex with underage boys and girls illegal not because they are not biologically ready for it but because they are not mentally and emotionally ready for it. Just like most kids could physically drive a car at 14 but we don't let them.
Also, she was in a position trust and power. If I had a kid I'd prefer to think that he's safe from STDs and emotional and physical abuse/manipulation--at least from his teachers.
I'm sure you'd be outraged if a woman did this to a 9 year old boy, right? Where would you draw the line? 6 years old? Or are you OK with some fucked up shit done to infants as long as the perp is a woman and the victim is a boy? How far are you willing to go to whitewash pedophilia?

The only "tabula rasa" I know of is John Locke's idea of the mind being a "blank slate" at birth. Saying you have no innate responses or knowledge, that it is all learned after birth.
So my guess is he's saying that men and women are different from birth. On top of that we grow up and act differently. Thus making sexual acts with adolescents "meh" one way and completely wrong the other.
In my opinion it's just as wrong either way. With the raging hormones boys have at that age of course they're probably not going to vehemently oppose the sexual acts, especially when from a woman. But the whole point of those laws is that they're incapable of making such a decision.
[–]CatManDontDo 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Tabula Rasa was also an MMORPG created by Richard Garriott, the creator of Ultima.
The overall game play is very silimar to the Defiance MMO that is out now. Not quite as polished or well thought out but not a horrible game.

From your explanation, the guy’s saying the law should be different for males and females?
The law is already different. It's called CONTEXT which is a broad term for how we make determinations in judicial processions.
I am shocked that I am having to explain such basic concepts to other adults....
[–]TheMythof_Feminism 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
The only "tabula rasa" I know of is John Locke's idea of the mind being a "blank slate" at birth. Saying you have no innate responses or knowledge, that it is all learned after birth. So my guess is he's saying that men and women are different from birth. On top of that we grow up and act differently.
So my guess is he's saying that men and women are different from birth. On top of that we grow up and act differently.
That is indeed the meaning of the tabula rasa mythology, or at least a reasonable representation.
It is the blank slate hypothesis originally posited by John Locke but adopted by communist propagandists. The idea being that all human thoughts and actions are purely the result of socialization and that there are no differences between humans at all. In this case people that argue that men and women are interchangeable are acolytes of the tabula rasa mythology.
Men and women are not the same, and to argue otherwise is to admit to suffering hardcore delusions.
Thus making sexual acts with adolescents "meh" one way and completely wrong the other.
I never argued anything remotely resembling that, but retards/incredibly stupid people are desperately trying to strawman my argument into that....
[–]The_Best_01 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I never argued anything remotely resembling that
You're saying that boys and girls are different, and so a woman that had sex with an underage boy should be treated more lightly by the law. That's essentially what you're arguing here.
Otherwise, clarify what you meant and how boys and girls being different applies here.
[–]TheMythof_Feminism -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You're saying that boys and girls are different
That's not what I am "saying", that is objective reality. The burden of proof is not on me to argue in favor of objective reality but on the tabula rasa supporters to justify their position.
so a woman that had sex with an underage boy should be treated more lightly by the law.
Show me a single time, in any thread, where I have made that statement; "Women should be treated more lightly by the law beause they're women.", you cannot because I have never argued anything remotely resembling that.
The argument I actually have made is that context must be considered. Your strawman argument is bullshit and dismissed outright. Do not waste my time grossly misrepresenting my position, fool.
So what exactly are you trying to say just because they're different? That boys are more willing and so it's ok when a woman does it? Like I said, clarify what you mean.
and I do think she should have been punished by being forced on a sex offender registry
So do you think she should be in jail, or what? And what about the "context"? Because the boy was willing and it was only oral? That applies to a lot of other cases. Should those women be treated more lightly? Again, clarify.
Do not waste my time grossly misrepresenting my position, fool.
And don't insult people and say the same thing over and over, idiot.

Please then enlighten us. Why raping boys are less condemnable than a girl? Do you know what you're laying on the table?
Would you have to be raped as 13 y/o boy by an adult woman?
Your "tabula rasa myth phallacy" bullshit doesn't work here. Men and women are humans, we both feel and we both have the same damn value. For God's sake, it shouldn't be that hard to understand something like that. Furthermore, this happened in NY, where legal consent age is 17. The teen was 14. It's statutory rape.
Yeah, some male teens hold positive views about having a sexial relationship with adult women, but it's obvious peer pressure and misandric cultural factors in action. Men are expected to shut up, not to talk about their feelings, to see themselves as disposable stuff. The same things that led men to suicide more than women nowadays or not to get medical aid early. Damnit! Wake up.
"but you're projecting yourself again" Don't dare to throw me that ad hominem crap to me. And if that's the matter, I could say it's someone's sexual frustration where his paraphilia involving S&M and statutory rape, and and a mad sex drive are disguised as an faux argument. Better keep your sexual fantasies to yourself

and misandric cultural factors in action.
Yeah, this is usually the problem, but it really doesn't apply with these cases. Peer pressure sure, but not misandry. What does that have to do with this? Plus, not everything is "peer pressure". Sometimes people just wanna do controversial stuff, and damn what others think.

I know this opinion doesn't go over well here, but karma hits don't bother me.
I also think many here are playing along with the stupid identity game that we've been forced to play and holding the left to their own rules. I know i am guilty myself, and I'm not a bit ashamed. But I also think we can, or should, be more honest among ourselves.
Obviously, any two crimes are not identical. Each has unique perpetrators, victims, and circumstances. Beyond that, a sex crime perpetrated by man just is different from a sex crime perpetrated by a woman.
There is a different dynamic between men and women in ALL interactions, including crimes. Women ARE physically more vulnerable to men than vice versa. These are facts, it's okay to admit them.
Before the rebuttals begin, note that I have not made any statements or assertions regarding which is worse, just that they are not the exact same thing. Also, I know little more about this specific case than what the headline says, I am not in any way defending this woman or her stern scolding.
[–]Raenryong 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The question is: where does it stop?
Women are generally weaker than men, physically. Women typically have more powerful socially unless you're looking at the upper echelon of society. Must we factor in the height and weight differentials of the perpetrators too, as they contribute to physical power? Should we sentence a short man less harshly than a tall one? A skinny woman less harshly than a fat one?
If you stab a muscular/fat person, you are likely to cause less damage than to a weak/skinny person. Therefore, should we give lesser sentences to someone who goes after "stronger prey"?
The question here is accountability. Being physically weaker should not shield you from consequences. If I attack a much larger man, this shouldn't expunge my guilt nor mitigate my offence.
In either case, with male or female teachers, they have a significant maturity and social level of power over you, as well as direct authority. An adult woman may well be stronger than a 14-year-old boy, too, if we want to go down the physical route. And if we truly want to differentiate the genders, who's to say the female teacher couldn't reverse the situation and claim the male student tried to molest her if he turned down her advances? That's something a woman can pull off far more easily than a man.
tl;dr: when you start going down this path, it is not only complex but also, in my opinion, highlights absurdities. Equality requires equal treatment under the law.
[+]pubies -7 points-6 points-5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Again, I'm not arguing in favor of shielding anyone from consequences. Regarding accountability in this particular case, it involves a person in a position of authority and a minor. I belive those are both things that should significantly increase the severity of the punishment.
If you stab a muscular/fat person, you are likely to cause less damage than to a weak/skinny person.
Yeah, that sounds true and I don't doubt it, but that is not how we generally judge the egregiousness of a crime. I am not well versed in how criminal courts function, but it seems that damages are a significant factor in determining a sentence. There's no difference between murdering a fat and a skinny person. There is a difference between stabbing an obese person in the fat folds and piercing a skinny person through the liver and pancreas. Just like there's a difference between giving someone a bloody nose and beating them into a coma. Perhaps sex crimes should use a similar approach, and rely more on facts and victim impact than victim identity.
Therefore, should we give lesser sentences to someone who goes after "stronger prey"? We kind of do already with "hate crimes", though that's a whole other can of worms. We also do this with crimes against children, disabled people, vulnerable adults, etc. The question here is accountability. Being physically weaker should not shield you from consequences. If I attack a much larger man, this shouldn't expunge my guilt nor mitigate my offence.
Therefore, should we give lesser sentences to someone who goes after "stronger prey"? We kind of do already with "hate crimes", though that's a whole other can of worms. We also do this with crimes against children, disabled people, vulnerable adults, etc.
