Wow I didn’t mean to be a cheerleader but in general I’m very happy for everyone heading precisely for what they want out of life. I like to think that’s what this is all about (PPD). I feel for incels and the like I think that’s the takeaway I get is it’s not easy to be treated this way but its socially accepted to treat incels like pariahs (?) . I meet up with at least a couple of friends every couple of weeks to go to resturants or venues and play sports. I used to have more going on but I stepped back from dating over covid and before I could get a date every couple of weeks to a month. Currently my friends are mostly male. I had more pre covid but some of them are still paranoid and some of them got GF's and basically pretended the rest of the u iverse doesn't exist.

I never really met anyone via social circle. I find the most effective thing is if you meet a woman while out somewhere you just shoot your shot if you vibe in the initial conversation and see where it goes from there. Which is probably why I don't have many female friends but I'm both not hard up on friends, and more concerned with not getting friendzoned than adding one more person to an already decently healthy social circle.

I’m at the gym with my gym fellow rats 5x a week, I ice skate once or twice a week.

I see friends 2x a week. Sometimes it’s simple as wine and tv, brunch, or as involved as skating, rock climbing, hiking. If a friend comes to my city from out of state I will take them to all the tourist stuff, I do that a lot

My social circle most weeks is 3 women, 3 men

I go on one date a week when I am getting to know people but i make more time as I feel comfortable with someone

I work too much, maybe 50-60 hours a week but on my own time (I hardly have any time if you ask me)

In my long term relationship I would spend time with him every day for the better part of the day, he would come to hang with my friends or I would hang with his, and I think I only worked out 4x a week because he worked me out.

Woman here but I try to be social 5-7 times a week. I think I have about a 2:1 men to women ratio. I do everything from church to boating to board games. I aim for two private events (events where the new people I meet is 0, think going on a friend's boat) and 2 public events (events I meet alot of new people ex: Bible studies or skiing) each week. I also don't count any work activities as social activities. I count myself as pretty average.

22M, I meet friends (all male) pretty much every weekend, usually we go on walks in the woods or out for a meal. I also am part of a club for my hobby. It is male dominated, though there are a few women there. I have no women in my social circle except a few of my friend's girlfriends and wives. I hang out a little with my colleagues at work. I play video games and scroll reddit when I am bored and not doing anything productive. I don't have a social circle, just a few friends here and there, so I can't answer that question. I'm mostly very lonely and I like to listen to music.

I'm going to give an older, married perspective, just to show the difference between my demographic and young single people.

Socializing is a bit of effort, we have our daily routines that revolve around work, our house, our dog, hobbies and just relaxing after work. I'll speak for my husband as well.

A lot of my social needs are met through work, mines a social, friendly workplace where every day I'm having a conversation about mutual interests or interesting things, or gossip, or worries with a few people from all different backgrounds and ages. Most days I'm socially drained by the end of the day, as I'm a friendly introvert.

My husband only has one peer/friend at work, but they are good ones and have a least one current event/non-work-related conversation a day. From there calls when he's working at home it's often more than once.

Our friends/family we try to at least schedule in twice a month on Sundays. It's difficult as it's a pretty much a whole day thing that involves dinners, and with friend often lots of beer. In our old neighbourhood, our friends were our neighbours, now we have to work to see them.

I have lunches or just coffee, or thrift shopping to catch up with my other friends once or twice a month, husband golfs or plays pool about the same.

I bowl once a week, look forward to getting to know my neighbours especially the gardening ones but we moved right at the beginning of covid, so it's been slow but steady. I'm starting to meet them now that I'm working on our front yard garden. I'm sure once the community tomatoes are in their boxes in the front the friendly neighbours will come. Husband enjoys neighbours as well, but he also goes to band practise once a week.

That's it, pretty boring.

I have met 4 out of 5 of my LTRs through my Social Circle. The 5th I met when she worked at a hostel, kind of right at first sight.

I work a typical 40 hr work week, and meet up to socialize with friends a lot--like 4 times a week at least. For instance today after work Im going rollerbladiing to Adult Night. I'm going with 2 platonic friends (Women).

I have never met a LTR through OLD. I have had flings with about 6 women from OLD, throughout the span of 8 years using OLD.

Also, I have connected many friends to LTRs with each other through my social circle. I consider these guys average. Quite a few dated girls I'd consider higher SMV than them.

It seems people who are lucky enough to have an existing social circle or a workplace with people similar enough to create one don't understand the challenge to even sociable adults to build a circle. Pairings happen in social circles because women feel a social obligation to get to know someone their friends know. I get that. Most big clubs or Meetups do not foster social circles. Teams might, but not everyone is sporty. Honestly I've moved about eight times since grad school, gained a bunch of work friends (to the point of several outings), and attended a crapton of Meetups and club meetings. Unless the right, similar-enough people are there, social circles and their organic pairings do not happen. That is today's reality.

One is from university - mixed group 50/50 M:W maybe? We play dnd together and still meet up for road trips etc when we can despite the fact that we live in different cities. My husband and I share this group as mutual friends so that's great too. My best friend is also a part of this group.

Friends from a sports meet up/club - we go out to dinner and drinks every other week. The potlucks are great. more men than women. Maybe a 70/30 split? I'm slowly merging this group with my university group who live in my city. Seems to be working well imo

I don't have many friends where I'm at. I occasionally go out to say Hi to other family and people that I know in the area but we don't hang out or spend time together outside of that. Most people around my age are married with children, or at least work full-time and have their own lives, so that doesn't leave much time or interest to get together.

I am pretty spontaneous so I like going to these places randomly and by myself when I feel like it, but I rarely go to movies or concerts. Museums are nice as long as I haven't been to them. Would like to take dance classes sometime whenever I get things straightened out financially on my end. I used to volunteer at a library while in college getting my Associate's.

Social circle is pretty mixed, but like I said, most of them are married or in a relationship and working. I've never specifically met anyone romantically through my social circle, although I did have roommates at one point and could have had something there but one woman was a bit younger than me and didn't know what she wanted. The next one was a little bit crazy so I decided to nope out of that one.

Right now I don't go outside much because the area I'm in is the same area I've been in for most of my life and there's nothing new or exciting to do and I'm not really interested in meeting anyone at the moment, so yeah.

I just work all day. I have a career and also a side gig, and I also study in my spare time. I go out with a small circle of friends when I feel like I need the break, but honestly I don’t have much of a social life and I am content with that. My work feels more engaging and fulfilling than entertainment so I guess I am lucky. I do want to marry and build a family, but I have decided that I will take that step when i have created something that will have a life of its own, so I don’t have to run it 24/7. I want to be able to be completely devoted to my wife and children, certainly a father who’s there.

I work 45-50 hours a week. Work calls, I don't really consider as socializing.

My friends and I usually catch up on discord all the time throughout the day as we work from home and on our computers. We play 1/2 games of league before we sleep over voice call. On the weekends, I have like 3/4 social who I hang out with- college circle, work circle(people my age), school circle(who are also my game buddies). Meet Ups are usually at restaurants, movie theatres, friend's place or some place to have a drink. Sometimes I just stay home the whole weekend. I've always been single and never dated. I go to gym 5/6 time a week, no friends at gym, I only talk to one of the trainer who I would say is a friend. My cousins kinda live close by and I do entertain them by watching movies together or getting them food. That's pretty much it. Most of my social cravings are cured by our daily discord calls.

My social life is robust, yet I’ve never gotten women from it. I’m one of the guys who had success from OLD and eventually settled down with someone who I knew way back from school. I became single during the fucking pandemic so I never really got to spread my wings irl. Ended my single life while still in the pandemic. But more about the actual social life, I go out at least twice a week, not always on the weekend. I have a friend group of about 8 guys that I’ve mostly known for 5+ years minimum. Some people rotate in, some rotate out, but there’s always at least 5 of us at the core who have known each other for a while. I talk to almost all of them every single day. My SO personally knows all of them.

39M, married, kids. Spend most of my time at work shooting the shit with mostly dudes at work, trading war stories, making offensive jokes, and maybe accomplishing a little work. Sometimes we'll go on trips and we'll drink or party on the road.

At home when the kids are at school, I do stuff with my wife during the day like hiking, riding bikes along the beach road. Maybe boozy lunch at a restaurant. Maybe just chill. Maybe just fuck. Or watch daytime TV.

We also do get togethers with her friends and their families. We'll cookout ourselves or get it catered. Play dates at the park. Kid's friends birthday parties. Home social circle leans more women.

I don't have the same sort of social life you are interested in knowing about. I am old and have kids and a bunch of friends I mostly talk with on Facebook and a bunch of people I know through activities.

Back when I was in the age range most of concern to you, I went out on Tuesday night and Friday night to meet friends (two different groups) at cafes. Each group had an ongoing core of about eight people and then another twenty or so who showed up very occasionally. There was some overlap...maybe 20 percent. We would go to movies too. And there was a side group off those groups that hung out at a house rented by a student and an unemployed person...so add another day of hanging out. They had parties sometimes. I went to evening classes and was sociable with maybe half a dozen people there. Then maybe a dozen people via family friends. A few school friends. So...all up...a core of maybe a hundred? And probably meeting a half dozen new people each week organically...more if I took up every group invitation. This was before Facebook.

About 60 percent were men and I met both my long term relationships this way.

I'm 36. When I was younger, in college, I was very social. I went to art school, and was in a lot of study circles where a bunch of artists would hang out together at each other's houses, had brunches on weekends, would go out dancing a few times a month, smoked weed and generally acted like free love dirty hippies.

It is an absolute fact that the more you go out and meet new people, the more likely you are to meet someone that is compatible with you romantically.

But it heavily relies on being LIKEABLE.

If you are sullen, abrasive, entitled, rude, awkward, sensitive, selfish ect, it may not matter how social you are. The trick is in being likeable so that people invite you to more gathers and look forward to introducing you to new people, because they know you're cool and that you'll be a good addition to any group. That's just basic social currency.

The more things you get invited to, the more people you meet, but also the more things you're invited to, the more social proof you have to demonstrate your value, which helps you get past a lot of screening. So you can get straight to having fun!

(And yes, "having fun" and "being fun" are pretty much required for Social Game to work.))

Female. I hang out with all women pretty much. We cook dinners, go out sometimes like trivia night/happy hour/dinner, do home projects together, craft nights, etc. We mainly hang out at each others houses.

My couple male friends we see each other sometimes but we dont really hang out like my gal pals.

How often do you meet with friends?

Usually once week during the school year. We meet on Friday night or Saturday night to play boardgames or RPGs for 6 hours. Most of them are parents, teachers, or both, so during the summer 2-3x a week since their schedules are more flexible.

How often to you go to movies, music, museums, dance classes, volunteering? etc etc etc

Once a month we go to the movies or game stores because of covid. Previously it was about 3x a month. I also volunteer at my local animal shelter once a week. Not close with my family but I do try to take my mother and younger sisters out to lunch twice a month.

My social circle is 100% male friends, other than myself of course. We've had a few women be a part of it in the past, but they come and go.

37/f, pre-kid I socialized in a mixed gender group of married/LTR couples I've known since college. Lots of unstructured hang outs, house parties, bars, festivals, happy hour, etc. My husband is a musician so the nightlife scene is his workplace.

Now with kiddo almost all socializing is structured, wholesome, gender segregated or with other families in the daytime. Lots of rec center classes and playdates. About 3-5 times a year I revisit pre-kid socializing with my husband or a gaggle of mom "friends".

I met my husband at a frat party (he hosted it, as he was the social chair of his frat), at the time he was always surrounded by girls and dimwitted bros. He has high social needs so in addition to working Thursday night-Sunday he'd still want to hit up after parties, go to bonfires, bar hop, whatever. Kiddo has slowed him down considerably but he still manages to gather an entourage and an invitation to party whenever he goes out.

We'd go see movies, grab desert, hang out at each others houses, it was a good time. once or twice a week on days off. Now we do all our socialising online because of the plague.

Woman. Married. Tend to socialise with husband and our small circle of friends who are (including us) 4 blokes and 2 ladies and we go from 36 to 58 in age range. We meet up 2 - 4 times weekly depending on what’s going on, I have a coffee and a chat with the other lady of the group every Thursday evening. We are all childfree and 4 of the 6 are married (as in 4 of the six are two couples).

Husband meets his other couple of friends for beers every other Friday and I do the cinema and cocktails with my best friend once a month. We travel up north and down south a few time’s a year to see other friends as well.

We met through a sport and both go to the gym 5 times a week together. I also do yoga and tennis in the summer

28M. My social life has always had big ups and downs throughout my life. I am naturally introvert and I moved quite a lot in Europe before settling here in London, so my social life has been quite different depending on the place and the conditions I met. I generally enjoy hanging out and I am very spirited once I am with friends, but I also need my time alone to recharge. For me social life is a pleasant addition to my routine when it’s there, but I don’t get depressed or sick if it gets sporadic for a while. So really my range has been hanging out to restaurants, clubs, pubs, weekend trip with 3 to 5 friends 4 days a week to hanging out with a single friend once every two weeks or so. When I don’t have a sparkling social life, I have barely the time to get bored: I work 40 hours per week, I workout 4 times per week and play guitar/read/watch movies in the evening. Being introvert, I never had a problem with going to restaurant/cinema/museum by myself. Sometimes I miss talking with people, but I am very close to my family and usually call my sis/parents quite often, so overall I don’t have a huge drive to change my life when I have this “low” social life periods. I know this attitude is generally frowned upon by women, cause they might think you are just weird or asocial. Anyways, I tend to agree that if you have a very large social circle, it is easier to know potential partners, but it’s true as well that usually I’ve always seen my female friends as just friends. I never really developed romantic feelings for my friends.

My friends are my cats. Only semi-joking. My actual friend group are all roughly the same age as me, and are consumed with family and childcare obligations.

We talk on Whatsapp regularly, but see each other once or twice a year. 50/50 male female split.

Most of my social interaction these days is just hanging out with my girlfriend and doing couples stuff.

All my hobbies are solitary, which is fine by me. I actually prefer being alone. Always have. I'm old enough now that I have the confidence to be able to do my own thing and go my own way, and I'm happy about it.

I actually don't think I could handle having a big rambunctious friend group like I used to have in my 20s any more. Too grumpy.

With COVID my social life has taken a bit before that I used to go for events on weekends. I go to gym 3 days a week or more and hang with buddies there. I video call friends around the world, plan it like once a month. I chat with close friends every day or at least once in two days. Mostly guys friends, we share articles, discuss geopolitics, philosophy, stuff happening in our lives. I spent time with my parents. I have a sister I chat with and we are quite close.

I got a date from this board game place I used to go on weekends. Social events are super useful to find dates. It’s very exhausting for me since I’m an introvert. 9;1 would be my ratio men to women.

I’ve had friends try to set me up with their friends but it never worked out cause usually I didn’t find her attractive. I go to movies with friends but I don’t cold approach strangers so I never made friends like that.

I’m really happy reading, blogging, gaming and it’s hard to motivate myself to do these social things.

on average we go out with friends twice every month. My wife and I try to also go out every week just the two of us.

The problem I have seen as people got older (and have jobs and more responsibilities) is that it's really hard to organise large groups of friends on a consistent basic. The problem is that while everybody has free time, it rarely happens that those free times actually match up.

So, when I say we go out with friends, most of the time is a group of 4-6 people going out. At my age (god that makes me sound old) most of my social circle is getting married or in stable LTRs.

27M in a fairly urban metro area - go out to eat with my (mostly male, but a few girls or girls the guys are dating/talking to) friends in more socially oriented venues like breweries/wine bars probably 2-3 times a week, take a full night out to hop bars/clubs usually once a weekend on a Friday or Saturday night, occasionally throw dinner parties at my house, and I get friends to come out when I perform both music and comedy at open mic nights or just want to hit the streets to busk for fun.

As far as post-college adult life goes, I have never even so much as had a date let alone a relationship arise from my friend group. All the girlfriends/fiances/wives of my boys have no attractive single female friends. I am fully hippy mode and have no social media, and really have never been one for photos anyways so OLD is a dumpster fire despite being objectively quite attractive in person. I easily pick up average girls at the bars when I go out if I get drunk and horny but as far as serious dating goes, which I actually would enjoy as I want to find a partner and start a family and build something together, is nigh impossible because every single attractive girl that I meet and vibe with seems to be already taken.

My big problem is that my degree is extremely rigorous. So I end up spending 60-70 hrs per week either in class or working on assignments. This means that during the semester, pretty much the only time I'm out of my house is when I'm on campus, and although I'm socializing during that time, I'm usually too distracted, tired, and stressed to really put 110% into socializing like I would like to. But as for your specific questions:

Typically, I'll chill with friends online once or twice a week, usually while working on assignments. We also try to meet in person and do something fun once every other week or so. Besides that, I see them either in class or in passing on campus 4 days a week.

Almost never. I'm lucky if I have the free time to go to the gym or for a walk at the park.

Friend group consists of 4 men (including myself), 4 women, 1 nonbinary, and 1 trans-male. Although I have a mixed friend group with a good ratio, having these women in my friend group doesn't really help me because I'm not interested in any of them, and only 1 has other girl friends I could branch out to, who I'm already acquainted with and not really interested in either. I would say my broader network of acquaintances includes another 12 men and 8 women. So I interact with plenty of women, I just happen to not be interested in any of them.

I've never been in a real relationship. I only had an online relationship with someone that I never met in person for a few months when I was 13.

Don't see my brothers or friends much anymore. Kind of grew apart from a lot of them. From most people really. I talk to family on the phone on the regular. I have one friend left who I talk to on the phone about once a month but lately I find myself drifting off while he's going on and on about the usual stuff.

When I don't have my kids, I go straight home, tidy up the house, crack a beer, go online and either have fun reading/posting, watching Netflix, studying something, or watching history documentaries.

I need a LOT of alone time.

COVID has been tough for a lot of reasons, but for me, it hasn't really impacted my social life at all. Probably because I don't have one!

How often do you meet with friends?

My friends? Once or twice a year, we live in different cities and mostly maintain contact through messaging and Snapchat. My boyfriend's friends, who's becoming my own local friend group? Once a week we play DnD with a group, and maybe twice a month we go on a double date with another couple.

How often to you go to movies, music, museums, dance classes, volunteering? etc etc etc

Maybe once every two months? With my boyfriend and other people. We usually either stay in or hang at friend's homes.

Whats the breakdown of your social circle: is it a social circle with both men and women. If so what is that ratio M:W?

I live with three guys and two other women, my classes are 60 men and 7 women. Friend group is pretty 50/50.

How many of you have met an SO or an ex through your social circle?

Either an old aquintance that was a friend of a friend or OLD.

I travel to a new country every 0.5-3 years and have friends all over the world but we only communicate through social media and far from daily or even weekly.

Here, I mostly hang out with colleagues, friends of colleagues and people I've met through work or, more recently, at festivals. There's an even split of men and women.

I don't hang out with them very often. I spend many weekends by myself. Lately I've been seeing a woman I met on Tinder.

Late-20s, M, here.

Pre-COVID I'd meet with friends outside of class every other week or so and that group was skewed about 50:50 men/women. Usually for a game night, Bible study, something like that. Occasionally go to a movie. I also have friends at the school I'm getting a professional degree at, but I commute quite a ways so just by virtue of that I'm often unable to meet with them outside of class. Don't really have the time for an active "social life" but I'm well-liked and regarded by people there.

Post-Covid, things with people I know through school are back to normal but I still haven't seen or spoken with that first group of friends since March of last year.

Socially things are pretty much "on-hold" until I'm done with that degree. Have had two relationships and both were from my social circle, granted, one was in high school and the other, college. For a big chunk of time I just was not ready for dating (took a break-up with a fiancée pretty poorly lol) and right now I'm pretty busy in b/w studies and work. The "plan" is I'll be back to going out and doing things with people once I'm done with school

Great questions, thank you for posting this and being genuinely curious.

I meet with my friends once every week or 2. We are all buddies from High School (15 years or so ago) and have a group chat where we talk to each other every day. As someone who trends as a strong introvert, I feel like that is enough social interaction where I’m content. I also live with my sister and her boyfriend so I get to be around my family a lot which is a blessing.

I socialize differently when I’m single vs. when I’m in a relationship. I’m single and looking for a relationship right now so if my friends invite me out I’m more inclined to go on a date with a woman. I probably go out twice a week usually with the person I’m dating and sometimes my friends. When I’m in a relationship I’m more inclined to stay in, but depending on my partners level of extroversion I may go out more. So I have two friend groups at the moment. One is my high school friends who are all men (7 solid dudes) and the other is my graduate school friends at my university. I’m getting my Master’s degree in experimental psychology so that group is mostly women.

Most of the women I have met have been online, but my last relationship and longest one was actually someone I knew from my friend group for over 10 years. She was the maid of honor and I was the best man and we had some good times together.

I have a long term relationship, and a fair number of freinds, but very few of them I would consider to be particularly close. I do have a few very close freinds, but not maybe. I don't go out much, truth be told, but when I do it's usually not drinking or bars. It's a hike, a board game club, escape rooms, experiences, etc. I will say though, that while I have a social circle (and I'm continually trying to expand it using things like Bumble BFF), and I have a fairly well calibrated EQ, I still don't have many friends I would consider particularly close. Maybe 3 of them? Maybe 2 now, because a good freind of mine just had a silent falling out. But people come and go.

Woman here. Usually meet a few times a week (3-4).This can range from dinner and drinks to arcades and bowling, the movies, or cookout/potluck/game night at someone’s else, museums, hikes, picnics.

Group is a mix of men and women.

Don’t mess with men in my social circle and never will. I keep those two things 100% completely separate.

Talk with friends everyday via messaging, Snapchat, group texts. Hang out a couple times to once a week. No girls whatsoever. Very different in college though if you were a plug for a good time regardless of what that entailed. Always took more out of you than it did from them.

Now I work part-time on weekends (literally the only job I could get) and live with my parents in California, which is too expensive to move out on 15/hr. I love my job though.

It is TAXING to just consistently be around girls unless they want you. Otherwise they will only grace you with their presence if you provide something tangible. I’m short and pretty frail-looking (I struggle to put on weight) so I am either 1) harmless and personable, 2) gross and subhuman, or 3) not relevant at all.

Last time I was intimate ISIS had a caliphate in the Middle East.

I feel like the last 4 years of my life has just been brutal truths that just make me glad I have a decent consciousness and a body to enact it’s will.

I find it probable I will be murdered and thrown into a ditch and neglected.

But everyday I expect the worst and hope for the mediocre.

Spend my weekdays working and then with my daughter and her friends/their parents. I see my bf maybe two evenings in the week and I'll also see my 2 male neighbours for a catch up.

During the weekend I'll probably have one night out with friends and my boyfriend, just my boyfriend or all of them together.

Preferably I need to spend my free time having wild sex, laughing till my sides hurt or listening to live music.
