'imperfect victim' is a funny way to write 'abuser'.

[–]Cr0wSt0rm 34 points35 points36 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This entire article gave me a headache. Why we all can't just be treated equally, and held to the same standard of conviction blows my mind. Attacking young women for coming to their own opinions is NOT how you go about defending the ideals that #MeToo claims to push for. A woman is just as competent and valuable as anyone else, acting like they should automatically align their thoughts with the movement, without coming to their own conclusions, only causes harm in the short and long term.

An abuser is an abuser is an abuser

They dont want equality. They have a new term for what they want, "equity" which is just a fancy of saying "subservience"

[–]Cr0wSt0rm 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They really call it equity? Ew.

I'm trying to think positively here 😔

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm all for thinking positively and this sub could use more of it. I'm glad that feminists are starting to see nuance in DV cases. I'm not surprised it only helps women and women abusers. Feminism is a labor union for women that's dues come from your tax payer dollars.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I like your idea of feminism as a labor union because I have studied the history of trade unions, and it coincides. In one point unions became interest groups more concerned with political gains and shady deals with the mob than they were with the "oppressed working class", which is what we're seen now more and more

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My workplace of professionals unionized and I was elected bargaining team leader. Unions are the only way to gain a fair deal at work. 78% of the bargaining team voted for the Union. The company had 2000 people in my bargaining team. They were ripping us off on overtime, work hours basically lying that we were contract employees when we were salaried hourly employees. This was a big company and our bosses just lied to us. We were just afraid to sue as individuals. As a union we were anonymous.

I'm sad that the problems of unions is always brought up when ever they are talked about in a positive way. This anti-union propaganda.

[–]mindset_grindset 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

new headline

metoo is over if we don't listen to imperfect victims like amber heard

  • economic freedom is over if we don't listen to imperfect solutions to capitalism like unions *

like seriously, anti union people don't think it's weird that American economic inequality perfectly coincides with the fall of unions ?

haven't people learned by now that litteraly everything the oligarchy is staunchly against are the exact things that are GOOD for the majority of people AS WELL AS usually what they have themselves ? police have a union so powerful they can literally get away with murder without getting fired. weird that nobody accuses the police of being commie bastards ain't it?

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

First of all, capitalism is not a problem but I’ll forgive you for being clueless like most people. Secondly, everything that people blame on the scapegoat of capitalism in fact comes from govt interference in supposedly “free markets”, eg: excessive regulations, tariffs, subsidies, which are all cronyism for the most part. It’s ironic and pretty funny you talk of “economic freedom” when this freedom has deteriorated greatly and is getting worse.

I’d also argue that labor unions only rose in the first place because of all this as they started rising in the 1930s when all this shit began as a response to the Great Depression. Workers already had okay treatment for the most part before FDR and his quasi-socialism.

As a final note, there are many reasons for inequality, one of them being the lack of a gold standard, the rise of fiat money, and the associated interference in markets mentioned above. Again, the “fall” of unions has less to do with inequality than all of the above. You mentioned that the oligarchy is against the good of the people and seeing as how they’re against a gold standard, you’re certainly right about that!

Anyway, those are the major points but if you want to educate yourself further, there are some sources I could provide.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ok how about the Guardian Newspaper:

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/may/16/amber-heard-haters-domestic-violence-victims-tiktokers-tweeters-johnny-depp

[–]oggyb 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Point humbly taken. That that article is under the news heading is a tragedy for news.

[–]Redditcritic6666 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The problem here is that certain ppl would be convinced that just because its printed by the guardian... then it must be news and it must be the unbias truth. Had someone arguing with me and when i ask for source he used an opinion piece lol.

[–]oggyb 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your point is good. People do use opinion pieces as news. However, since I'm right, and the guardian website only credits the author with opinion pieces, I'm not sure why I was downvoted so much. Unless it came across like I thought nobody ever reads guardian opinion pieces?

Idk.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would say a monstrous percentage would. People truly do believe whatever is on the news. I’m more aware of that than ever following the recent years.

[–]Kuato2012 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's the opinion section of The Guardian, and newspapers curate their opinion pieces.

[–]PandaFoo1 285 points286 points287 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

If anything it’s people excusing proven abusers like Heard that’s killing #MeToo

[–]MrPernicious 55 points56 points57 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

And that's a good thing

[–]DevilishRogue 62 points63 points64 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It would be better if they weren't also denying actual imperfect victims like Depp whilst they were doing it. The author seems genuinely oblivious to her own hypocrisy.

[–][deleted] 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They use Johnny's substance abuse and personality flaws to deny he's a victim, but they would excuse them if it was a women in his place

[–]BulbasaurusThe7th 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But they ignore Amber having a documented history of abusing people, because that's not relevant.
I've seen them show a photo of Johnny's art supplies being thrown all over the floor. I have done similar things... by accidentally dropping a box of supplies.
But the fact she beat her girlfriend? Lol, nooooo, that doesn't mean she isn't the victim!

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm starting to think their logic behind the double standard is "everything men do is bad because masculinity is inherently bad, women can't do anything bad because they're inherently victims of the system (patriarchy)".

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s exactly what feminism is, this is pretty much the central tenet of the ideology.

[–]MrPernicious 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At this moment in time women like her are necessary. They help expose the very toxic side of feminism and this helps to push away the casual feminists, the ones who aren't activists and only know the dictionary definition of feminism.

Women who lie are the reason women who are the telling the truth are treated like liars. Men don't deserve any blame for that

[+]HelloILuvYou -112 points-111 points-110 points 4 years ago* (15 children) | Copy Link

Women who tell the truth are treated like liars? No wonder women are pissed off. It would suck to gather the courage to report a crime and be treated like a liar.

Edit: Depp said he was abused and was treated like a liar and I think that's disgusting. Why downvotes for saying that shouldn't happen to women either?

[–]TAPriceCTR 67 points68 points69 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Amber said Depp was abused... just not anywhere she thought the public or courts would hear.

Women aren't treated like liars, they're treated like accusers who are probably telling the truth. Men are treated like liars who might be telling a partial truth. Even still there are norms who can't see Johnny as much of a victim as they see Rhianna.

[+]HelloILuvYou -47 points-46 points-45 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

The original comment said women who are telling the truth are treated like liars.

[–]GnomeChompy 50 points51 points52 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

...Because of women like Amber Heard.

So were you lying on purpose like Amber Heard? Or are you just that illiterate?

[+]HelloILuvYou -52 points-51 points-50 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

So women are treated like liars because of amber heard but women aren't treated like liars. I'm having trouble understanding this.

[–]GnomeChompy 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

If women like amber heard lie, then women who tell the truth are believed less. This is because we now cannot distinctify between liars and truth tellers.

However. If women like Amber who lie are held accountable, then women who tell the truth are believed again. This is because we can now distinctify between truth tellers and liars.

[+]HelloILuvYou -8 points-7 points-6 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

But prior to an investigation, no one has any idea who is a liar and who is a truth teller. Shouldn't the process be the same regardless of amber heard?

[–]GnomeChompy 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No shit. Thats why we wait till evidence comes out. Thats what this sub has been yelling at you feminists since the metoo fiasco started.

[–]MrPernicious 28 points29 points30 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. The starting point of the process should be "we don't know if the accuser is telling the truth or not, and we don't know if the accused committed the crime or not". Which isn't compatible with #BelieveWomen.

[–]NiceNob 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Should be but isn't. Johnny lost his career for no reason

[–]reverbiscrap -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

WAAAAAAAUGH!

[–]HelloILuvYou -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Depp made over 20 million dollars making movies since this accusation. That's more than 99.99% of the acting world.

I doubt that's what a 'lost career' looks like.

[–]MrPernicious 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think he probably meant to say that they are treated like potential liars. Tbh, when an accusation is made they are potential liars. They are also potentially honest. I don't know how you can do it differently without venturing into discrimination.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women who tell the truth are treated like liars?

Sadly, yes. And it's because of the women, not the men, who make up stories. See The Rolling Stone fiasco, freaking mattress girl, and so on. Women go to great lengths to lie about this and it's picked up, blown up, and it's not exactly uncommon. So it's naturally going to cause doubt since now reasonable people must now question the validity of claims due to false ones.

It's just the classic tale of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, something it seems a lot of women/feminists didn't get the moral of. If you keep making false claims (especially the blown up ones) eventually when it's real, people will have serious doubts based on the past events. Just like the boy who lied about the wolf twice, the farmer didn't believe him the 3rd time when it was real. That was the whole point of that story, don't make shit up, because when you do people will not believe you.

[–]Vanriel 78 points79 points80 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I find it hysterical that they try to add in to the mix "lower class men"

Uhh no it doesn't help them. It usually ends up with them being the one who gets screwed over if they are involved in anything like that.

[–]DavidByron2 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's always been true going back over a hundred years of feminism. It's why the imperial government funds feminism; to kick down the lower class men.

[–]Maxwell1138 121 points122 points123 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

I guess MeToo is over then.

Gawd I really wish it was...

[–]pioneerpersona 55 points56 points57 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I don't think it should be over but it should be for actual victims like Johnny. Currently it's used as a weapon. False claims apparently come true as long as they end with #MeToo

[–]TitanicPat 56 points57 points58 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Teach women not to lie.

[–]pioneerpersona 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Sounds a bit like teach men not to rape. How about stop letting women get away with lying (and rape)

[–]GnomeChompy 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Especially since men probably will start lying about it too as F2M assult become more normalised.

A gender neutral approach of just telling people not to lie would be best imo.

[–]pioneerpersona 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Well said

[–]Nihilistnigg 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Teach men not to rape. Teach women not to lie and manipulate. Teach black people not to steal. Teach middle easterners not to blow shit up. Teach Jews not to get kicked out of almost every nation they go to.

[–]pargofan 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This shouldn't be downvoted.

It illustrates a great point. People in general shouldn't do this shit. People in general shouldn't rape. Nor steal. Isolating it to men or blacks furthers the stereotypes.

Making statements like "teach men not to rape" is no better than "teach black people not to steal."

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But shouldn't it be teach not to rape or rape is wrong..cause guys can also be victim of rape..

[–]pargofan 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. The message should be that no one should rape. Or that rape is wrong.

Getting consent is a simple concept. But somehow it's gotten usurped as only applying when men touch women. Not when men touch men. Or women touch men. Or women touch women.

[–]TextDependent6779 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the message should be gender neutral. but tbh, the message doesn't need to exist at all. rapists know what they're doing is wrong, they just don't care. they don't need to be 'taught' anything.

particularly, i don't like the idea men can't understand the difference between right and wrong. we know taking advantage of people is a bad thing.

[–]ixtasis 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But that is not the goal. It was never that goal.

[–]matrixislife 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course it should be over, should have never begun in the first place. What should have happened is as soon as someone was assaulted they should have complained to the cops, and the subsequent investigations would have prevented many more women being assaulted after that.

[–]NotMyOnlyAccount11 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am so tired of this feminist argument that basically goes "if a system can't be abused by women, then it is a bad system because women won't use it and it is infinitely worse for a woman to be a victim than it is for a man". It is so grossly sexist and destructive.

[–]Imaginary-Luck-8671 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it is infinitely worse for a woman to be a victim than it is for a man

Coulda stopped here, they honestly consider a woman's value to be infinity, and so any equation that includes women and men, women are weighting men out of the equation.

Feminists won't have it any other way.

[–]Whitified 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is great. Feminists are throwing Amber Heard under the bus now to save #MeToo

Or, you know, we could still prosecute serious cases while maintaining due process, and god forbid showing some restraint and journalistic integrity in the public sphere. But that doesn't get as many clicks I guess.

Lying harms and destroys the lives of men. Lying also harms credible and legitimate victims. Amber Heard lying shows that men are not guilty out of the gate, and it still does not have to be to the detriment of other women.

Consider yourself lucky if you never had an argument with any of them. You could see eye to eye with them on 99 topics, but the moment you step out of line on 1 topic, you are an enemy of the state.

I had one that was STILL bringing up an argument we had a year ago, and I said this isn't healthy. Her response was "Your opinions are affecting my health." Good lord...

[–]denvercaniac 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I remember being a male feminist at a young age that wanted equality so I joined the side that preached “equality”.

But after helping them with their rape issue only for me to be ignored because “we have more pressing issues. Your issue can be the next one we try to fix.”

Then I started noticing the whole “your issues will be the next thing we try to fix” was how they dealt with male issues. It was a way to keep men in check.

I left after I was sexually assaulted and was met with backlash and abuse when I went to the people who I thought would understand and help me through this, like they said they would.

He was talking about Catholicism and how nobody could ever leave the church. If you publicly renounced your faith and joined a cult in the woods, you wouldn't be seen as a "Non-Catholic" you would be seen as a "Bad Catholic"

And it seems that no matter how monstrous a woman may be, no matter how evil, abusive or manipulative she is, she doesn't stop being a "victim", she merely becomes an "imperfect-victim"

Amber Heard and her propaganda-press are actively making it harder for women and men that are getting abused to come forward. Women have a high in-group bias. That is true. But women become ruthless when the bias wears off. Women use physical weapons and psychological means to hurt other women which is very very bad news. Absolutely, but it isn't too much of a shocker to those that take nature as a source of examples...

In most mammal communities, if not all, the only enemy a male has is another male, whether this is from its species or not. However, females have males both as enemies and protectors, and other females mostly, if not always, there are exceptions, allies against a common enemy.

This entitles, that if females aren't protected by a group, of females or males, they feel, and are for intents and purposes, unprotected. So, as a female, who is the one I am never going to piss off; the one that can be both my most powerful ally or most dangerous enemy, or the one that 99% of times will give me some sort of protection?

Heard basically took the metoo movement to the ends that rational people saw it had the potential to go to back when it started. Those people who warned of this potential were labeled as misogynist and were accused of histrionics and ironically, found themselves "metooed" as well.

This whole movement is burning down around them similar to how the BLM movement suffered when it was revealed that their leaders were collecting $BILLIONS in donations from fundraising and not actually using a single red cent of that money to help either George Floyd's family or any other struggling minorities, instead using that money to buy themselves mansions in white neighborhoods.

The "Metooers" will go to even greater lengths than this article to protect the movement. Stay tuned...

They perhaps forget that the project of #MeToo – the whole point – was to help imperfect victims. Those who were wearing the wrong thing, or were drunk, or were promiscuous, or loved their perpetrator

Did the author seriously compare being a domestic abuser to "wearing the wrong thing" or "being promiscuous"? This tells me that she's either an abuser herself or that her moral compass is bordering on sociopathy. Dismissing violence against a partner as something like a choice of attire is seriously messed up even by Guardian standards.

This article shows exactly what the problem with our culture is: women who abuse men are treated as "imperfect victims", not perpetrators (even though 70% of one-way domestic abuse is committed by women). This is exactly why men abused by women are more likely to be arrested by police than the aggressor.

This woman wants the authority of a man, responsibilities of a woman, and accountability of a child.

Most women will never ever ever take accountability for their actions, they literally believe everything bad is somebody else's fault, and that they themselves can do no harm. Even if you show videos with other ample evidence, they will still say he made me do it. This is why it's near impossible to respect women these days, and also why women adopt gas lighting techniques and play mental games to get what they want. If all men knew better, women would lose. But unfortunately that's not the case.

[–]pyr0phelia 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well they’re not wrong. This has done more to reverse the damage of #metoo than any criminal court could have done.

[–]denvercaniac 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Throw the book at this scumbag.

[–]TheStrouseShow 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Completely agree that this is why men do not speak of their abuse; it’s minimized until it’s not valid. I had a friend tell me his childhood babysitter sexually abused him but begged me not to tell his brother because his brother loved that babysitter when they were kids. But what if his brother went through the same thing?! That type of fear is not ok to teach our boys and men.

I’m particularly bothered by the word victim showing up in any way to describe Amber Heard’s completely fabricated “experience”. It’s offensive to actual abuse victims (like Johnny). Throwing the word “imperfect” in front of it doesn’t make it better. Why is this person trying to encourage listening to people lying?

Metoo was a sham from the very beginning. Amber Turd is an abuser, not the victim.

[–]NotMyOnlyAccount11 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Barf.

There are SO MANY false allegations.. the pound me too movement needs to STOP and any accusations need to be made in private and handled privately until the accused is found guilty, only THEN can it be public.

Ok, let’s end #metoo and create something better.

Most women I know will lie even if the truth sounds better .

[–]baddingtonbearr -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think you’ve read the article… it says that Heard is an abuser and “believe women, of course – just not this one”, and acknowledges that depp is a victim but also recognises that depp is also not completely innocent.

It literally talks about how the metoo movement is for men…

do any of y’all read the articles you post or do you just see a title and hope for the best

[–]TextDependent6779 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

"male suffering is treated twice as badly" the article says (paraphrasing).

i can point to a lot of the overlooked male suffering. the article is garbage.

[–]baddingtonbearr -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

you can’t act like there would be this much media coverage if it was the other way round.

i can also give you a multitude of examples where womens suffering has been overlooked

[–]TextDependent6779 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

you can’t act like there would be this much media coverage if it was the other way round.

who's to say. there could be a variety of reasons from fame, to the fact its defamation. I've seen a few false accusation cases get reasonably high publicity. if JD is found to be solely victim and not abuser, as many people currently believe is the case, that might be another reason. i can't recall another case with abused men gaining so much coverage.

i can think of a lot of times women's suffering was high profile covered in media.

i can also give you a multitude of examples where womens suffering has been overlooked

i can also do this, but its not related to the article. the article claims male suffering is treated far greater than female suffering. if that were the case, why does suffering like male death in war get so overlooked? just look at ukraine now, where all the focus is put on the women and children refugees.

[–]baddingtonbearr -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

because the women and children are CIVILIANS and Russia are committing WAR CRIMES against them.

which ALSO has nothing to do with domestic abuse

[–]TextDependent6779 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

which ALSO has nothing to do with domestic abuse

but is still related to the article which claims male suffering is given twice the value of female suffering. its the opposite.

because the women and children are CIVILIANS and Russia are committing WAR CRIMES against them.

you're Emphasising my point. turning a blind eye to male suffering through a different source. because the women and children are civilians, we don't need to hear about ukraines male soldiers dying?

[–]baddingtonbearr -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

we hear about ukrainian soldiers and civilians dying every day? the first war crime charge was today against the murder of a man? just because YOU don’t choose to read those articles doesn’t mean they’re not there.

bringing ukraine up is equally as relevant as me bringing up how womens suffering is not documented in the media the same way depp’s has

[–]Punder_man 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guess what, many men were also 'citizens' but that didn't matter..
They don't get a choice on whether they want to put their lives on the line or not..

That's kind of how The Draft, Conscription etc work..

And because of this men are erased as 'victims'

[–]miroku000 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where does the article deny that men can be victims?

[–]gorgonrock -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Metoo is not about females. It’s about closeted victims of abuse and harassment. #Metoo is about men. It’s about people like Johnny Depp.

[+]woolyreasoning -15 points-14 points-13 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

no nuance takes are killing #metoo, honestly if you can look at the depp vs heard case and not see 'these are two damaged people hurting each other' the problem is the press

[–]DavidByron2 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When did Depp hit Heard?

[+]aqsgames -25 points-24 points-23 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I find the comments here disappointing. Both men and women can be abused, even in the same relationship. Heard or Depp can both be abusers or victims. The legitimate point made in the article is that women are frequently not believed or their issues dismissed- which is factually true.

I agree that men on the other hand are much less likely to come forward in the first place.

But in either case we should look to support and believe the victim regardless of gender.

[–]TrilIias 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where’s the evidence that Johnny has ever abused Amber? What, he accidentally head-butted his ex-wife and one time he sent a text to Paul Bettany? Wow, Amber must be traumatized.

The legitimate point that women are not believed? You say this despite the fact that Amber’s mere accusations ruined Johnny’s career, but even after it’s become clear that she was the abuser, she still hasn’t been fired from Aquaman (as far as I’m aware). When you say women aren’t believed, you imply that men are, but does anyone really think male victims are actually believed? Are thy believed as much as female victims?

[–]sjjskqoneiq9Mk 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whilst to a degree this may be true men are often literally laughed at or told to man up or that it's impossible for men to suffer or experience abuse in the same way.

Whilst in this case they are both clearly toxic for one another from the things presented so far it seems that one was much worse than the other and the overall abuser if the roles where reversed I don't think it would have even made it this far.

The problem with saying we must believe all women no matter what is that it's a dangerous thing to say. How do you offer support equally across the board when a man comes to you saying he's been abused but you have to look at the woman first for permission to believe what's said?

Articles like this just serve to widen a division that shouldn't even exist, perpetuating dangerous stereotypes and do more harm than good to many.

There’s a lot of misogyny and very little empathy going on in this topic. I’m going to get downvoted again but this feels very incel nice guys.

[–]Enzi42 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What exactly would “empathy” look like in this case?

It feels a lot like you’re fishing for/attempting to incite support for Amber Heard, which honestly won’t be well received here, and for good reason.

[–]TextDependent6779 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this is one of the only misogynistic comments I've seen this thread. it was mass downvoted. would you like to provide some examples of incel/misogyny?

[+]Menzies56 -30 points-29 points-28 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

To be fair this article doesn't say men can't be victims of abuse, when i read through i then had to go back to see at what point in the trial this article was written because it is just very biased.

The term imperfect victim is used rather Victim/Abuser, the verdict is out if she truly is a victim, at this point, I don't think any of us doubt she is an abuser.

[–]GnomeChompy 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've literally never heard those terms in my life. Sounds like they pulled it out of their ass specifically to apologise for Amber.

[–]Fix-Advanced 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it has to do with them trying to create a new legal term based on imperfect self defense. Where a woman is allowed to abuse her partner because she feels like he's abusive. She's not an abuser, she's an imperfect victim.

[–]Menzies56 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yip ill agree to that :)

[–]TextDependent6779 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

seems weird to me they try to apply 'imperfect victim' to AH and not JD.

[–]Mad_Hatter_92 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s pretty balsy that they asked for a donation to their organization at the bottom of an article like that
