Just get it done man, I was actually super surprised how easy it was, I don’t want to scare you, but between the needle in the scalpel honestly there was no pain. The only thing I felt weird is when is slightly lift the cord on your testicles a little Iggy feeling but honestly no pain nothing like that and generally over with and 30-35minutes, make sure to get an athletic supporter! I can’t state that enough, it was really good to have. And made the healing process much quicker.

My doc told me get bags of frozen corn, not peas. They coat them differently, and peas when refrozen clump together, corn doesn’t. I advise discarding them once you’re done, but guess you can make a nutsack shepherds pie.

If there's no kids on your horizon there's really no reason not to especially if you're 50+.

The procedure is very quick and easy. The guy who did mine was barely paying attention he's done so many and spent the entire time (5 mins I'd say) talking to his assistant about his daughter's wedding haha.

Overall horrible vasectomy experience with more pain than anticipated. My own brother says it was a breeze. Eff that. Mine was like repeated groin kicks by a concert cellist building up to the finale. That being said would do it all over again and some.

I’m pretty sure I still have ptsd from my ex telling the world “We are having another baby or I’m leaving his ass.”

I'm 48 in the middle of divorce. I keep going back-and-forth on this. I have no plans to have a relationship anytime soon, I'm never gonna get married again. In theory I could still start over and have a family, but the problem is that i would be 50 at the youngest, meaning that I'm gonna be 68 to 70 years old when the kids are just graduating high school! 72 to 78 when they graduate college?? That just seems like a bad idea for everybody..

BUT I dislike the permanent nature. I have everything to lose with an accident pregnancy. I think I still have this really small idealized dream of getting a 'perfect' new young wife, have 2-3 kids and being a father. But that shit is just a dream. I have been responsible for another adult human for the past 17+ years, and I have no desire to take on more responsibility.

It's easy and fast. I'm your age and did it a year ago, and was done in less than 2 hours. No more kids for me, period. I don't want to deal with high school kids again when I'm approaching 70.

I had this done back in July of this year. Just do it man, it's only a little more uncomfortable than nicking your scrotum with a razor a couple of times over 15 minutes. Then the weird 20lb testicle feeling afterword. I blasted through the moderate pain and went straight back to work.

Believe it or not but the majority of the pain came for me about 3wk later when I was doing some leg presses at the gym. Totally my fault.

Throw 1k$ on your HSA or FSA to cover it tax-free.

Stop thinking about it and just do it. When you’re ready there’s going to be an ungodly amount of tail waiting and yes you don’t want any accidents. You aren’t ‘clean’ for another 2-3 months after getting it done. It’s painless and if you choose you can even drive home after procedure (by choice it’s if you take a pain killer before procedure or not). I have yet to figure out a down side.

Did it a couple years ago, mostly because I had had another surgery and was already over max spend on insurance so it was basically free. It wasn’t nearly as bad you read and I didn’t really have any pain at all after leaving other than a little soreness two days later. Didn’t affect me in any way. Might as well go for it.

At the time I was already sleeping on the other end of the house from the now X, so not like that was an issue.

I have a friend that had his undone, or so he said once, when his second wife wanted to have kids. And oddly enough they’re getting divorced right now.

Late 30s and got it done after my kids were born because the stbx and I agreed we were done. She wasn't stbx at the time but in retrospect I'm glad I got it done, now I have little worries about the future. I am done with kids, love the two I have but the 1st few years are tough and I don't want to do it again.

Went in on Friday evening, back to work on Monday with minimal pain. Well worth it.

I'm mid-50s.

I had my kids in my mid to late 30s and honestly I can see and feel the difference between the years. Besides all the timelines (financial, retirement, life goals) having a baby now would mess up, though being in ok shape, I don't have anywhere near the energy and stamina I had to find when I was younger in order to deal with demands of raising young children.

I divorced in my early 40s and my second wife is more than a decade younger. We acknowledged that were were done with kids, and got fixed early on. From what I've seen out there, its not hard to get involved at my age with women who still have child bearing years in them, so taking your reproductive future into your own hands is very sensible.

If you already have kids and are happy with them, I'd say to anyone to call it a day in that department.

I'm 42 going through a nasty acrimonious divorce involving a custody battle over my 7 year old son.

I've already reached out to my family doc for a referral for getting a vasectomy. I genuinely don't see starting another relationship anytime soon and I honestly don't see starting another family. I'm having a casual thing with a younger woman (which has been fantastic), but neither one of us is looking for something long term.

My son is going to need my full attention going forward based on how messed up his home life has become, so my focus is on him for the next decade.

It's a shame since I love kids, but it's not like I'm in a position (either emotionally or financially) to have any in the foreseeable future. Because it's not really about just having a kid, it involves starting a whole new family.

I don't see that happening - and I'm not even sure I want to given the hellish situation I currently find myself in.

I got one when I was 31, my doctor made me wait a month just to make sure I wanted it since I was still pretty young in his opinion. I'd already thought about it for a year. During my dating days after my divorce I dated some 15 women or so. 4 of those women tried the "I think I am pregnant thing" with me. I'd say it saved me possibly a million dollars in risk alone.

I’m going thru divorce now and am thinking the same thing. I’m 52 and as much as I love my kids I don’t think I could raise more from birth. The first few years are tough with babies. That’s for younger men. I’m curious what others experience has been. Can they extract some swimmers for IVF down the line if I somehow miraculously change my mind?
