I disagree with them, politely. My main arguments are that evidence suggests society has a moderate bias favoring women and that if you look at the bottom of society (prisoners, addicts, homeless) its overwhelmingly men. That doesn't mean I don't sympathize with women on some issues, I do. I just try to argue that both groups have certain issues that more strongly pertain to themselves and that it isn't obvious men have some decisive advantage over women even if most of the top slots of the government (civil and military) and economy are still occupied by men.

A privilege is a benefit or immunity granted to some people but denied to others. If it’s granted to everyone, it’s a right.

So, when feminists claim male privilege, I see nothing they mention actually meets the definition of a privilege. Typically, they just point to a difference between men and women or they just make stuff up. Ironically one famous feminist list of so called male privileges starts off by saying men are privileged in job hiring which I find so amusing since women are privileged in job hiring under affirmative action.

We of course have manhunt laws that grant women specific benefits that men don’t receive which are by definition privileges.

I believe in the west the only way men can be privileged is if they are the most successful of the bunch because let's face it money does the talking. Didn’t feel too privileged with the way I was treated after being domestically abused by a woman I was in a relationship with, raped by a woman, and preyed on by older women as a minor at the time. There’s not only a certain dismissing you receive as a male victim, but you get told it isn’t possible. It felt even worse with the lack of resources there are to help you. All you can find for male victims are things that paint them as the abuser and statistics that refuse to be acknowledged. Yeah, that definitely didn’t feel like privilege.

I think there is some degree of male "advantage" yes... but the way that feminists talk about male privilege is so ridiculously twisted and framed with such contempt.

Besides, most of what even I would acknowledge is male "advantage", is ultimately biologically motivated... like for example men don't have to worry about sacrificing their careers for several months once they decide to have kids... men don't have to worry about things like periods... men are built stronger, faster, more durable... but none of that has anything to do with "sexism".

I really struggle to come up with legitimate examples of "male privilege" that are fundamentally motivated by sexism against women. Meanwhile, I can EASILY come up with a whole list of female privileges that are purely the result of sexism against men. Their legal privilege over men (having more rights), their state protections over men (more funding, more female specific policies, etc), their lower degree of suffering in basically every way (less crime victimization, better school performance due to teacher anti-male bias, academia being pro-female/feminist, MSM being anti-male but not anti-female, etc etc).

The only "male privileges" that feminists talk about either are completely untrue (like men experiencing "less crime") or have nothing to do with privilege, like men being more likely to pursue a career in STEM or politics. They love to say that women are "held back" in these fields, but there isn't a shred of evidence to support that, in fact there have recently been posts here sharing meta-analyses proving there's preferential hiring in FAVOR of women & in terms of politics, women are the majority of voters anyway so Idk wtf they're even complaining about.

I'm sure there are probably a few cases of "male privilege" that's socially motivated, like men perhaps being taken more seriously in certain situations (on the flipside, men are also seen as worse & less trustworthy people), but most of that type of stuff is quite trivial if you really get down to it.

The concept of overarching male privilege is complete bullshit. It's designed to further the bigoted narrative that men as a gender oppress women.

Of course, there are specific situations when men are privileged compared to women. I've seen women in tech be taken less seriously and be held to significantly higher standards for how they present themselves compared to men. There are absolutely cases when men have privilege...but there are also cases where women have privilege. Ironically, an example of female privilege is how when women talk about inequalities they face compared to men, they are taken seriously, while when men point out ways that we get the short end of the stick, society tells us to stfu and check our privilege. Male problems being summarily dismissed is a pretty glaring lack of privilege, if you ask me.

The whole concept of privilege as it exists today is just shit. I said this a while ago, but all it does in contemporary conversations is demonize and invalidate. No one likes being told about their privilege. I've talked to women before who mention male privilege and express interest in having an equitable conversation, but the minute "female privilege" leaves my mouth, they bristle. And you know what? I feel the same when I hear about male privilege.

Of course I'm treated better in some situations. That doesn't mean I'm the problem, or that I'm treated better in all situations. The entire conversation is fucked, and I don't even see how it's a productive way to deal with bigotry compared to, gee I don't know, actually going after the people perpetuating the damn bigotry.

Only one third of black applicants to Harvard who were accepted would have been accepted had race been taken out of the equation. That is black privilege. Novak people are more likely to be arrested than white people. That’s an advantage for being white. And the word privilege is really something that a special few get, so. I prefer the word advantage. So with getting arrested I’d say that’s more a black disadvantage or a white advantage.

Men have an advantage that finding a same sex mentor in an executive role is easier — there are more of them. However, men don’t stick together like women do in the corporate sphere so that is a female privilege.

Women have privileges today in higher acceptance rates to jobs, higher likelihood of promotion, higher likelihood of being hired at a higher level than currently (“promo” as part of job transfer). Lower conviction rates, shorter sentences, custody, alimony, college scholarships, dating, more shelters, more resources for domestic violence victims, freedom of conscription, legal protection of bodily autonomy, less likely to be physically assaulted, live longer, better grades for the same work, etc.

Now onto men’s privileges. Physically stronger, easier to fit in in well paying fields like tech, less social pressure to put on make up and other extended personal grooming, more listened to in meetings, more talented in negotiations, higher tolerance for risks like starting a business, greater financial resources, living in a world whose structure was chiefly designed by men, less likely to be infantilized, less social pressure for childcare, less likely to be perceived as a token/diversity hire or promotion, and so on.

That said, while men have advantages (privileges), men are not privileged. That itself assumes an abundance of privilege and at face value, women have quite a few substantial privileges that would make one ask, is it women who are privileged. The one big caveat is, is it men and women in western/modern societies or developing ones. There are many places around the globe where men are truly privileged, in developed nations there are a handful of places, if that.

I am frustrated by it. I grew up poor and worked super hard and was still poor. I’m white and a male so everyone is like he has it so easy.

This morning I got turned down for a job I I interviewed for last week that went amazing and I am perfect for job but they gave to someone else. (Had a nice back and forth reply from the hiring manager said I was top two.) but in the end the sentiment that people have is that I will have so many other opportunities that if they don’t pick me it’s no big deal. So the other person gets it a lot. I am told I’m top two a lot. Check back later and it’s a minority or woman in that position. People thinking I have so many options screws me.

I am sure some things have come easy or I didn’t get oppressed in some way. But getting a job is super hard for me. I have a job presently but my female boss harasses me and lets the women slide with everything and I’m on a PiP. I get told I’m mansplaining one day and not saying enough the next.

But I apply to jobs like crazy and have a very white name and appearance is like white bread boy my whole life so if I get through the resume filters I get blocked by my race while everywhere is doing minority and women hiring programs.

All the applications have questions about how I promote diversity and XYZ thing that is almost impossible to talk about without sounding fake or made up or whatever when it’s on the spot in interviews.

The top tier of men are more privileged than the top tier of women. When you get to the rich and powerful yes, men have it better.

For the rest of us slobs there are spots where guys have it easier, and there's spots where women have it easier. There's also spots where guys get screwed and spots where women get screwed. Overall I feel like feminism has put the large majority of men behind women.

But women only care about that top tier of men and THEY have privilege so MEN have privilege. They are upset that those top tier guys are screwing them over and don't care about them screwing almost every man below them on the totem pole over.

In the western world women are as privileged as men.

In the middle east women are sadly not at all as privileged as men.

I don't see how men are more privileged than women in the western world, of somethings, sure, but that goes with women too.

Those people are mostly college-paid by mommy ( and “daddy”)- priviliged in their 20’s commenting on people who did not have that privilige and had no/crappy parents having to bust their ass since 16yo.

I think they are delusional and don’t get that being able to define a situation does not mean it’s a causation argument pro a whole ideology supported by this “problem”. I am priviliged if you compare me to an Ethiopian kid that starved to death yes that is true and my mom used that argument when I did not want to eat my veggies as a kid. Well if these people would check their own privilige before whining that would be great because the arrogance is getting out of hand. I know people with very shitty childhoods, lives,.. I don’t think (not sure) one of them would walk up to a homeless guy and tell him he is priviliged, maybe they should start thinking that problems aren’t all so visible, and they should not judge so harshly just based on skin color. Call them "reductionist".

Sure, men have some (though now a lot fewer) privileges. None are legal. Some industries are more male friendly. Teachers discriminate against men in bullshit subjects (where it's easy to discriminate) so it forces men into real subjects like STEM. I guess we don't need to have periods? Men don't try to date men (unless they're gay), which is both good and bad.

Women also have privileges.

Saying that one group is more privileged, overall, is just reductionist.

Idiots, the head of English at my school started shouting at me about how I’m a middleclass straight white male so I’m privelleged, I don’t know why she started it but she did- and all she said was you don’t have to give birth, or raise children.. which is crazy sad because she has kids of her own who she sees as a burden. In general men are privileged, but not in every case. Also men’s privilege can actually be a curse in the long run, as it contributes to our poor mental health and hypermasculine problematic ideals. Class also comes into play, as society is structured to benefit rich (and cis and white) men in particular.
