The issue is not dying alone, but spending most of your life alone

When people say they want a partner because they don't want to die alone they don't mean literally not dying alone, in a sense we all die alone, but the fact you can spend your whole 60s, 70s and 80s alone, having no one visiting you, no one to sleep by, etc.

It is a reasonable fear and I wonder why society downplays it. Finding love older is harder, especially if you did not have deep social relationships younger.
