A paternity test should not be confused with a fidelity test, as the results of a paternity test do not, by themselves, prove a partner’s loyalty or disloyalty.

First, a negative paternity test does not automatically imply that the wife was unfaithful. There are several situations that can explain such a result without involving infidelity, such as baby switches at the hospital or cases of chimerism, where a person has two different genetic lines. Moreover, in relationships with consensual alternative sexual practices, such as swinging or threesomes, sexual involvement with third parties can occur with mutual agreement and does not constitute infidelity. Another serious situation is sexual violence, which, of course, does not count as cheating.

On the other hand, a positive paternity test is not proof of fidelity either. Pregnancy does not always result from infidelity, as there are effective contraceptive methods, and the lover may be infertile or sterile. Additionally, a woman who is already pregnant by her husband may engage in an extramarital relationship without becoming pregnant from it. It's also possible for infidelity to occur in a homosexual relationship, which would not result in pregnancy, making the paternity test irrelevant in such cases.

Therefore, a paternity test only verifies the biological link between father and child and cannot definitively judge a spouse’s fidelity.

People on this sub should stop talking as if a paternity test were a fidelity test, in the same way stop pretending that a man wanting to be sure of paternity is the same as accusing his partner of cheating. A man who sees his wife as a cheater will probably be asking for a divorce along with a paternity test.

If a man believes that his wife is unfaithful, it is not through the paternity test that he will get that answer.

The paternity test clarifies who the father of the child is, but does not clarify whether the wife is faithful
