Wrong, wrong, wrong. The data has repeatedly shown that men are very realistic in how they view their own looks, and the looks of women. Yes, men will sometimes try to attain a woman who is more attractive than himself, but it isn't nearly as much as the 80 percent of women who go after only the top 20 percent of men - and a 6 man will typically not find a 9 or 10 woman attractive. After 8, the potential of the woman being a pain in the ass goes up significantly. A 6 man will look for roughly a 6 woman (even though she thinks she should be a 10).

Which is to say, with a man, roughly equivalent looks will get our attention, but personality is what will keep us.

Women take from men, they don't really give anything back to a man until after the sex part and after the relationship part. Hmm, I disagree with your end conclusion but not necessarily the reasoning that led you there.

It is true that a lot of men lie about what they really want. A lot of women do to, and for largely the same reasons, but firstly, I don't think men just want sex. There might be some ogres for whom that is true, but most men want a woman in their life, which includes sex but is not limited to sex. It's things like having a woman around to decorate the house, to plan the day, or to occasionally spoil them with a little treat to show that she loves and cares about you. Men function better with this support.

Some women might say that this is pathetic, but I argue that this is equally true for them. Don't women want a guy who thinks about what they want? Who does little tasks of affection, without needing to be asked to do so? Who can tell that they're having a bad day and give them a back rub, or pick up dinner on the way home?

The difference is that women mature slightly faster than most men do. So while a woman might be thinking about relationships, the men (I'm assuming we're speaking about early 20s people at most) are still stuck on just sex. Most of them grow out of it after they have their first flame and realize that sex isn't the thing they miss the most about her. Everyone just wants some consideration.

It is not that all a guy wants is sex but it is a huge factor since it is genetically hard coded into our DNA. Without it in a relationship it is a deal breaker. Women I don't think can actually love a man, they love what a man can do for them and if that stops women will go into mom mode and it is over. Once a women can gain nothing more to fill their instincts to be provided for and protected they will lose interest in a man. A man will get into a relationship with a woman if she provides other things but without the sex it is not worth it.

For men and women -

The male private area enters the female private area.

This is natural and normal to occur with a man and woman. If the man feels strange about the man putting in a bit more energy (thrusting) than the woman then they may be a bit feminine and lacking the male hormones.

Funny thing but for me, sexual chemistry is the first and best indicator of how successful a relationship is going to be. In one case, good sex can keep a relationship going even long after everything else about it has turned bad.

In the other case, bad sex will ruin even a great relationship really fast.

So it's not like I'm expecting sex on the first date. But I know that if it doesn't happen within a week of starting to date, it will be an uphill battle for every crumb of affection for the rest of the relationship.

I think we guys just want sex a good bit more (on average of course) than women. This creates a certain economy for it and scarcity for it that leads to all sorts of differing down stream effects - like tendencies to value it, connection to self worth, and its meaning within a relationship.

Your comment about finding a different guy based on what you are looking for (sexual gratification vs. a relationship) is EXACTLY what men are concerned about - I promise, even if they love you and want a relationship with you, there isn’t a man in this world who wants to feel like you didn’t think about them as the panty dropper. People value, in themselves and others, what’s scarce and what’s difficult to do; not what is easy.

I’m not sure if a perfectly analogous example exists for women, but maybe this: think of a guy who spent a ton of money and effort on an old fling - just spoils her, buys her flowers, opens the door for her, wines and dines her constantly, chivalry through the roof; but with you he’s been about the 50/50 split and hasn’t done any of that from the start. He says that past was just a bit surface level - he was probably just trying to get some action; but with you he sees a long term partner and best bud. It’s different. He may still value you, but given this guys past, you may not feel valued in the way YOU want to be valued.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. Im saying we cant get into the heads of one another and trying to offer some nuance and differing perspective.
