Nowadays it's common to see phrases like "mansplaining", "manspreading" in mainstream news websites which send a feed right to your desktop. When I was a kid, stuff like that could only be found on tumblr and fringe forums. You really had to go out of your way to learn about stuff like that. But kids today are reading that right from when they turn on their computer.

At first I thought - I hate how only women can speak about this issue and be taken seriously.

But then I realized, that's not true either - she will inevitably be accused of being a "pick-me"

Probably the only people who can speak about this topic without any backlash would be transgender men (people assigned female at birth but transitioned to living as a man later in life)

Lesbians could speak about it too (would they ever, though?) because there's no chance of them being a "pick-me"

The guy she's responding to is everything I hate about that Progressive Feminist culture. This is a guy who is going around waving his status and place in the hierarchy in everyone's face, zero remorse, just all arrogant and holier than thou. Like to actually be seen as a human being I have to actually be a professor, huh? I have to have professional status? That by your own logic and theory is entirely 100% undeserved?

I talk about how the fact that these ideas are not internalized and actualized turn everything into this fight for status and power, and that's a prime example of this in action.

The funny thing is that I was talking to some friends this evening about how hard it is, institutionally, to get support for men, although more broadly, it's that if you don't match the expected scripts of what an "In-need" person is it's basically just fuck you. And this is us actively TRYING to do the work. To create spaces and places.

Professor, fix thyself and leave the rest of us alone.

I go to a hyper progressive College and this is very much the only accepted narrative allowed. I also worked at a mental health clinic here and they would regularly joke about the suicidal men they saw afterwards, saying "You're privileged, you'll get over it."

Men have been systematically silenced, as well as dishonestly claimed the benefactors of a system that openly works against them.

People say "oh this gender war stuff is only online, go live in the real world" but my real world is built out of people who spend most of their time online, have been taught a social justice framework that warps their view of reality.

I'm graduating with my BSc in psychology in Winter, and I hope to run men's groups someday soon, to be a place that just listens to men's pain without trying to figure out if it's worthwhile to share or if it takes away from some other more deserving group. I don't want us to even think about each other in terms of groups, but only to see the suffering person in front of you.

Also, thank you so much for posting this video! Seeing some pushback against the radicalization of the culture is very hopeful that there's still room for a sane empathetic cultural discourse!

Saddest thing about a younger women calling this crap out is that they get called a pick-me immidiately. Same shit happened to me during 3rd wave when I critisized the objectification of women on mainstream media whenever I saw it, but it didn't make me stop or w.e. I have the same expectation from women yet I get disappointed most of the time :/

This is also why therapy is generally less effective for men than for women. From patient to care provider, therapy is a very gynocentric field. This means the data being abstracted from patients as well as the lived experiences and biases of the therapists doing the abstracting is going to lead to results with blindspots when it comes to men.

Patriarchy isn’t the only structure that exists, queens benefit from the structure of government called monarchy not because they are women

Patriarchy has similarities with the state

The patriarchal pact is that men are “supposed” to use their violence to “protect” women from other men

This creates the narrative of the “we need to protect women and children from predatory men” which both infantilises women and children and demonizes outcast men

The state and adult supremacy are similiar in where states “protect” (really just a guise for restriction and control) citizens from other states as well as criminals internally when the state is the biggest perpetuator of social harm just like men are. Authority often bases itself on folks being fragile and in need of protection/control and monitoring and violent and in need of being out in line

With many men of demonized or racialised status they get marked with the bad ends of masculinity as savage rapists and wife beaters e see this play out as means to opress arabs as well as black people

Understand I’m under no assumption that the end of patriarchy inherently ends these dynamics to men just as women can internalise negative norms about themselves so can they of men, making the police force pink will still opress black men also as an anarchist I stay very clear of making freedom a means of a teleological or metaphysical argument these issues are things for men and women to solve not for us to wait for them to solve themselves after patriarchy has ended, norms can perpetuate and find new norms, institutions and values to hold onto, the state for example went from religious justifications to secular and even patriarchy has multiple forms (benevolent and predatory)

All forms of reductionism are bad because it abstracts you away from your own agency just as we should not wait for the revolution to solve slut shaming we should wait for the end of male power to solve the issues that effect men

The stuff about witch trials I’ll have to fact check I would love you to bring me a source If true then that’s a fuck up of the left but please understand that women’s oppression doesn’t diminish your own issues it feels a bit course to be annoyed at women being centred in witch trials when men are centred in most places I know that’s a whstaboutisn but keep that in mind

Patriarchy works at multi levels patriarchy used to refer to the rule of fathers in the household or in villages not the leaders of nation wide governments

Those peasant men were still the leader of their household and enjoyed some perhaps less but still some patriarchal privileges

As much as I hate class reductionism class is a more influential hierarchy in how society runs then patriarchy even if patriarchy is older

On the last front I agree I don’t care for female capitalists or female cops or female politicians a pink boot is not much better then a blue one 🫡

I think a good question would be why is it that most men don’t think their feelings matter… maybe because they were never rewarded for engaging with their feelings.
