It isn’t uncommon to see men complain about women making their political preferences clear, complain about women not dating them because of their views, a developing set of political standards in dating, progressive women complaining that there aren’t enough progressive men and many men retaliating with “your politics don’t matter” or “politics doesn’t matter when dating”

Politics does matter when you’re dating, now, they aren’t the end all be all and a ton of other things come into play - but your partner aligning with you enough to at least be willing to stand up for your rights kinda matter a lot.

And imo it should matter to more men. This whole “politics doesn’t matter, I can disagree with you and still date you” mentality needs to stop because in its most innocent it shows ignorance, but in its most heinous it shows a disregard and lack of a desire to take your partner seriously.

Of course, I have to state the obvious and say you don’t have to 100% agree with your partner 100% at all things… but at least be on the same page on issues that involve your rights as a person (and you can interpret this however you want, if you feel as though your rights are attacked, why do you settle for people who are attacking them?)

You see where I’m getting at? “Politics doesn’t matter” only makes sense if both sides share an ambivalence towards the topic, but the response to one side feeling differently shouldn’t be “why do you care? Politics doesn’t matter”, it should be to find someone who’s maybe also ambivalent or cares about similar things as you do.
