Find the guy who will help a stranger carry something heavy up the stairs. Life is long and sometimes even healthy relationships can go through rough patches after decades together. Don't set yourself up with the man who won't show up for you the second you hit a bump in the road.

My son is 25, autistic and moderately mentally retarded but still high functioning.

He and I were in the grocery store; he was about 20 feet away from me getting the snacks he wanted and I was gathering a few things up in my arms. It started to get a bit awkward for me with my purse and other items, and a can of soup slipped out of my arms and fell on the floor.

A man of approximately 40 was right next to me. He started to bend down to pick up the soup for me AND SUDDENLY CAUGHT HIMSELF, straightened up and walked on!

My son, who from a young age has always been taught to offer to help to ladies carrying things or picking up heavy items, saw the whole thing and hurries over to me, picks up the can and says loudly “What an asshole!! He should have helped you Mom!!”

The asshole was just rounding the corner of the aisle and I know he heard my son, because everyone around us could hear. Dude, a special needs kid just called you out for being a dick!

I was so proud of my son that day.

A few years ago I was at a hospital lobby and I saw a family exit from the elevator. The man and a young boy walked ahead and entered a waiting car. The woman was holding a baby carrier and was obviously newly postpartum. She started shuffling along in clear discomfort while carrying her new baby, and her husband yells at her across the lobby to hurry up.

Oohhh yes! I wrote a post on fds about lvm signs and this is one of them. A guy is LV when he watches you struggle with something and doesn't even offer to help. If hes placing things where you can't reach or access them and he delibrately knows this hes LV.

High value men will offer to carry things for you. they'll open doors for you. Even if you just buy a bag of chips or something light at a mall, he will offer to carry your bags. If you're building furniture like ikea stuff he will offer to do it for you or actually help you do it. He won't half ass it or play dumb to get out of it.

While I’m perfectly capable of carrying heavy things, i really love it when even just my platonic male friends see the opportunity to help me out and expect nothing in return. For example, I often went to the beach with a certain group of friends, and we’d have to climb down unsteady paths down the cliff (there aren’t really any paved pathways to the best spots) . They would insist to carry my stuff, maybe I had a light backpack at most. Always walked me to my car, or say to call them when I am done parking to go to a party in a new neighborhood so they can come meet me and walk with me there (I preferred arriving alone so I could leave at my own time). There are good men! Now if only I could find one I was physically attracted to and actually dating who does this 😭

Yeah, but why does it seem so often that as soon as a male falls out of love (or even just out of lust) for their woman he becomes so absolute careless and indifferent, often even callous towards her, like in a instance? Them being partners for a while, maybe even her birthing their children or having shared a life together, built something together, suddenly it all becomes meaningless for them. This is the biggest reason I left my ex. I took him and our (toddler) daughter camping memorial day and arranged planned packed everything and this mother fucker just could even fathom the idea that I did get a break...no no no, he insists I help lug everything into the woods. Then he legit threw a temporary tantrum when my brothers friend offered to get the wheelbarrow up the hill for me and I obliged- because as soon as I was offered help I "offloaded". He really loved seeing me work. Fucking asshole, burns me in both ends.

This truly highlights that the premise of men being “well meaning but clueless at times” is false. They know what they are doing.

I once flew 2000 miles to visit my now ex-bf of 4 years. I used my only weekend off in 6 months. I paid for the flight. I even paid for a spa day for us. To this day, I can’t believe he let me pay almost $700 for a day - while making 5x my salary. To this day, I can’t believe I let myself sink that low. Anyway... when it was time for me to leave 2 days later, he didn’t even offer to take me to the airport. Actually, he didn’t even bother walking me down. I just dragged my suitcase to the elevator and then stood outside alone at 4am waiting for a Lyft. That’s not being clueless - that’s just being a raging selfish asshole
