For me as a 25 year old I don’t see often see people showing what they do in their bedroom in public. I think if I saw a woman wearing a collar in public with her man I wouldnt be screaming my head off I would just think it’s weird, I would then go about my day. I think a lot of women like to be submissive in bed today, i don’t think there is any taboo around it.

In the early 2000s I was like 5 so I don’t really remember what people were doing.

Weren't chockers and some kind of collars popular just a few years ago? Most girls wore them just as an accessories though, not at something kinky to show off.

But generally flashing your sexual life and kinks before people who have nothing to do with it isn't a very good choice. Others don't want to be included into your fetishes, so keeping things in your bedroom or in a way that people don't really notice them is a more appropriate way.

Is it? It's odd. Growing up in what can be considered Balkans I never encountered the idea that women have submissive personalities.

Last 3 years online it seems so many women refer to themselves this way which every fiber in my body sees as degrading.

I dont get it but in my personal experience it's a relatively new thing. Let's be real, aside from this sub in most western counties women have been equal since 50ies or so. Its taboo in the sense that feminists don’t like it, but women are really not held to a societal standard. The modern message is women “should be” strong and independent, but its really not expected. They can be submissive, dominant, independent, codependent, etc. and nobody’s allowed to really say a thing unless its praise for whichever direction they choose

I think anything apart from sexual submission is taboo nowadays. And even then, I don't really see it in modern culture apart from jokes of people liking to get choked and that's only online.

From a relationship standpoint, I feel this is usually only popular with redpill tradcon types or amongst Christian conservatives. Like r/redpillwomen for example which is not popular nor common in today's world. So, I would say relationship submission/traditional relationships are more taboo than sexual submission.

I'm older GenZ and I'm submissive but I dislike the submissive lifestyle/aesthetics and would never bear any sort of gear, however I'm very traditionaly feminine. I don't like the early 2000's style either. I much prefer the natural order where the man is dominant without the influence of porn or some subculture.

However I have been on tumblr in my teens and I remember the divide between feminists who openly liked BDSM and those who seemingly opposed it, and since we were in the same fandoms I noticed even those feminists who opposed it read the same fanfics about submission, rape etc and I thought it was weird, but they tried to policy everyone else there, as if it wasn't obvious they really liked it too.

In real life I feel like alot of girls my age are hypocrites or don't know what they really want. Most of them are feminists by default bc we grew up in that culture yet they want masculine guys and get turned on by dominant guys. I think many secretly like trad culture. We talked recently at my Uni about expectations for each gender and almost everyone agreed that women should be beautiful, feminine, traditional, wear dresses etc. And guys should be masculine but with a soft side etc. I know several women who complain endledsly about macho chauvinist men but it couldn't be more obvious they're attracted to them.

But I don't get how it was normal in your time, like there was lots of feminism in the early 2000's? I have to add that it's weird to parade around in fetish gear, it feels dated and weird. And sort of like Pride Parade where you're proud of your kink. It's a bit pathetic...

The people who sell romance novels do a tremendous amount of market research, and they know what their readers want, because if they don't know, then they go broke. Now it turns out that not all women want exactly the same thing in their romance novels, but some subset of them want powerful ripped alpha males who will carry them off to their dudgeon or whatever and dominate them sexually. I have no idea what percentage of romance novels sold follow this trope and incorporate explicit BDSM. It's probably discoverable if anyone cares. In any case, a woman who enjoys such novels is not likely to talk about it in public, even if she reads them on her kindle while she is on the plane or the subway.

But rather than speculate about the prevalence of BDSM fantasies among women, I will advance the more general proposition that the greatest of all taboos is for women to admit what they want. Proof of this is redundant and all around us. Look at the endless efforts made to deny or debunk that OKC study about the percentage of men women actually find attractive.

So yes, a woman being submissive is taboo, but this is one facet of a larger taboo, which is ever admitting what they find attractive.
