We have officially entered the age of "I'm video taping this entire date / encounter for my own protection"

[–]chuck202 122 points123 points124 points 8 years ago (44 children) | Copy Link

I'm surprised there isn't an app that is essentially a consent form for these type of encounters.

[–]WackyWarrior 162 points163 points164 points 8 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

There is. It's useless because you can withdraw consent at any time.

[–]Pillowed321 109 points110 points111 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

which is literally what happened here. She consented at the time and then the next day changed her mind.

[+]nixonrichard1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

She's literally saying "you should have realized I wasn't into you while I was sucking on your penis."

Like, I know people can send mixed signals, but that's a doozie right there.

[–]rozzer 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Within minutes of returning, she was sitting on the kitchen counter and he was—apparently consensually—performing oral sex on her

[+]Arronicus -7 points-6 points-5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

She didn't blow him.

[–]bananastanding 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She says he then resumed kissing her, briefly performed oral sex on her, and asked her to do the same thing to him. She did, but not for long.

https://babe.net/2018/01/13/aziz-ansari-28355

[–]Ali_s1987 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She did to it. Twice........

[–]spoida[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe his knob was covered in cheese.

[–]theFriendly_Duck 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She did. If you read the story on babe, where it was originally placed, you will see she did twice.

[+]BodrickTheBrave1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

I think what /u/WackyWarrior is saying is that you could enter consent on the app, then change your mind, then engage with the other person.

Changing your mind the next day isn't rape, and for what it's worth isn't what she claims happened.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But does the app even oblige you to let the other person know you've withdrawn consent?

[+]BodrickTheBrave1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Well what I'm saying is that you don't need to update the app to have withdrawn consent

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And you don't need to have withdrawn consent to update the app, so it sounds worthless.

[–]Jex117 70 points71 points72 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Even retroactively.

[–]RapidFireSlowMotion 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What's the legal standing on "withdraw consent retroactively?" It just doesn't make any sense (unless there's some sort of extortion or authority imbalance)

[–]Jex117 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A woman can consent to sex during the act, then afterwards, retroactively rescind their consent under the guise of being an unenthusiastic consent, or any number of other excuses.

[–]Ovrdatop 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think this would hold up in court and if it did, our democracy is over.

[–]So_Much_Bullshit 45 points46 points47 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

if it did, our democracy is over.

Oh. You didn't get the memo?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Basically, always playing the victim, while constantly smashing in your face how "equal" they are.

[–]So_Much_Bullshit 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Especially retroactively.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It’s worse than that. Feminazis are now pushing the idea that all sex is rape; and only after the event does a woman decide if it was consensual.

[–]guy_guyerson 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This has context within a larger framework of male behavior in general should be outlawed (or is already) and even if women commit crimes, they shouldn't be suject to prison time. In fact, the thinking goes, we should just get rid of women's incarceration altogether.

We should stop putting women in jail. For anything.

Why we should close women's prisons and treat their crimes more fairly

The underlying logic is hard to forge into coherence, but there's a through line of women being unable to decide on their actions for themselves.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I honestly would love to see how women reacted if men just stopped paying attention to them all together.

[–]Jywisco 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the very reason many years ago why women were not allowed in private clubs and many other places. Now that women are allowed in those places they want to change those places and toss the men out

[–]greeb666 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This isn't new at all Dworkin pushed this in its final form back in 1987 and she was a second waver.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you're a woman. We all know men cannot do this.

[–]Toomuchgamin 37 points38 points39 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

There is, I have seen it. You both log in with your phones and consent lol. I forgot the name.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Scary that this will probably be an actual norm

[–]Jex117 24 points25 points26 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

If it had any merit in court then it would be a norm by now. I remember frats trying this in the late 90s / early 00s.

You can sign whatever you want; doesn't mean it holds up in court.

[–]TheWardylan 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Thats why you have one brother become a notary.

[–]Jex117 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Notarized or not, a "consent form" doesn't hold up if someone says they got raped.

[+]Stevegracy1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

What if it was a pre and post consent form, where they signed right before and right after with a lawyer and notary present through the entire event?

[–]Jex117 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Again, wouldn't matter.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

muh god... its black mirror.

[–]Arronicus 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Won't hold up for a single second in court. "He made me" "I thought he would ____ if I didn't" "I didn't want to" "He took my phone" "I lost my phone that night" "I've never seen that app before".

[–]Toomuchgamin 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah someone told me about it and I didn't really get it. I thought it was a dating app, but basically two people download an app, and then basically you use your app to send them a notification using their phone number, and they "consent" with their app.

I don't know what you mean that it won't hold up in court. Compared to what exactly? It can't be any worse than my word. I mean it isn't like it legally exonerates you from anything, but better than nothing.

[–]koncept61 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dave chapelle had that in a skit

[–]Istalriblaka 61 points62 points63 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Then we just add another layer of consent we need to obtain, and another way women can fuck us over by retroactively retracting it. Your best bet is to only record audio, but that requires you live in a one party consent state and there's no exception for sex or similar things. Also, now we know even that isn't bulletproof because of verbal cues.

Literally the only way to guarantee you won't get in trouble for having sex is not only not having it, but by being able to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt there was no chance for you to have relations with the accuser.

[–]Jex117 46 points47 points48 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Your best bet is to only record audio

Year before last there was a high-profile false rape case here in Canada against some director (Jian Ghomeshi). Even though it was proven that his accusers colluded to fabricate the entire thing against him, feminists lost their shit after he wasn't imprisoned - through their special interest groups, they had new legislation put in to prevent this:

Now, in Canada, any sexually explicit materials are inadmissible in court unless specifically allowed by the judge. So you can have 100% airtight evidence that you're innocent, yet still go to prison...

[–]Istalriblaka 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh yeah, I knew I was forgetting something from last time I gave that advice.

Even if you win your case, get a new identity. Name, address, maybe even social security number (or equivalent). And get all new technology and accounts to make sure you can't be found through doxxing. And a new car may also be in order, but license plate is a minimum.

[–]RapidFireSlowMotion 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm unaware of such evidence laws, seems to run counter to the truth (and professor google is un-cooperative). Is this nation-wide, or have any bills / laws / links?

About the "one party consent" problem, how about a sign posted at entrances similar to "these premises are under video &/or audio surveillance at all times"

[–]Jex117 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"An accused will be prohibited from introducing sexually explicit texts or emails in court unless a judge rules them to be admissible"

[–]RapidFireSlowMotion 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Thanks, Barbara Kay's opinion article, but it appears to be about 2017's Bill C-51, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Department of Justice Act and to make consequential amendments to another Act - still just proposed legislation so not law yet.

It seems focused on communications & evidence before / after the event, not of the event itself.

Relevant sections:

  • Amend section 273.2 to clarify that the defence of mistaken belief in consent is not available if the mistake is based on a mistake of law – for example, if the accused believed that the complainant’s failure to resist or protest meant that the complainant consented. This would codify aspects of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in R v Ewanchuk (1999).

  • Expand the “rape shield” provisions to include communications of a sexual nature or communications for a sexual purpose. These provisions provide that evidence of a complainant’s prior sexual history cannot be used to support an inference that the complainant was more likely to have consented to the sexual activity at issue, or that the complainant is less worthy of belief (referred to as the “twin myths”).

Kay's opinion says:

(remember Lucy DeCoutere’s email to Ghomeishi following an allegedly harrowing assault, “I love your hands!”?). An accused will be prohibited from introducing these kinds of sexually explicit texts or emails as evidence in court unless a judge first rules them to be admissible...

It still appears that actual evidence of the event would have to be accepted (assuming the court cares at all about the truth)

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Rape shield laws are an abomination

[–]SchalaZeal01 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It seems focused on communications & evidence before / after the event, not of the event itself.

This is the behavior post-event that made Ghomeshi appear innocent. She wanted to get back with him, sent naughty pics, said she liked it when he punched her.

Why would they not want that allowed? To find him guilty.

[–]originalSpacePirate 34 points35 points36 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Or MGTOW. Just saying. Articles like this is exactly why that movement is growing. Luckily im in a very caring and stable relationship with a wonderful redpilled woman but godamn if i was still dating i'd be terrified

[–]plutosheen 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Mgtow is now the only sane option in an insane world.

[+]Jex117 -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Hahaha no. I've personally met women who buy into the whole "there's no difference between men and women!" To the point that they dismiss hard biological facts to uphold their opinion.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

uphold their opinion

Who cares about those opinions when they don't reflect their actions

[–]Jex117 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There's no rule that humans have to make sense.

I'm just saying, this idea that all women are caring and redpilled is false

[–]spoida[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

this idea that all women are caring and redpilled

Said no one ever.

Where the fuck did you hear that lol

[–]Jex117 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

awalt = all women are like that.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I understand your miscomprehension

[–]Istalriblaka 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm fortunate enough to be in a similar situation but I totally agree. Especially as a college student, I'd be terrified of winding up alone with a woman, let alonewinding up in bed with them.

[–]RonTomJohnson 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You aren't red pill and neither is she. If you were, you'd know to add the caveat of, right now. Right now, you feel like you have a stable relationship. This isn't a guarantee to last. Awalt

[–]TheNextMilo 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh grow up! Men just need to be responsible. Can you not avoid raping a woman? If you can avoid it why worry? These allegations are caused by men because women never lie/s.

[–]Lovethoselittletrees 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

OMG. I'm so glad you put the /s at the end. I almost didn't make it that far!! Hahahaha. Fucker!!

[–]SolongStarbird 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Dude I already decided months ago I would audio record any woman I decided to sleep with giving me explicit consent to do so. Not playing games here.

[–]melodamyte 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How do you set that up logistically?

[–]SolongStarbird 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have no fucking clue I probably won't even sleep with a woman until after I pop a ring, so to speak.

[–]melodamyte 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh,

would

[–]HiredMind 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There should be a law at the federal level overriding state wiretapping laws in cases where one party releases details of a date, allowing the other party to legally release any details they have, such as video.

"Thank you all for coming to my press conference. I want to thank 'Grace', who's real name is <bitch's name>, for her article detailing our date, thus making this possible: I will now show the complete uncensored, unedited video and audio of the night in question. Could we lower the lights a bit?"

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Pretty sure we're entering the age of, "I'm just going to go home and masturbate instead of wasting my time and hard earned money trying to get some shallow chicks attention just for her to possibly put me in jail someday." It's not worth it.

[–]JEWCYFRUlT 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nah just have to be more observant of the types of women youre chatting up. Been in a solid relationship since last May and she's nothing like these SJW tumblristas. My gf thinks this shit is ridiculous.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But is it even worth the time finding these girls? I still date here and there and it's just frustrating. Even the cool girls I meet still do the shallow, shitty things that other girls do. Why am I wasting my energy and money trying to find a woman who just acts like an adult?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I videotape all of my dates, but not for protection ;)

[–]rainman206 603 points604 points605 points 8 years ago (54 children) | Copy Link

It's powerful that she said in text that "he just wanted to fuck me."

Yes, that seems totally accurate. He clearly wasn't interested in a second date. He just wanted to fuck and there's nothing wrong with that.

The mistake Aziz made was that he didn't ask her to leave when it became clear she didn't want to have sex.

Her mistake was she didn't reconcile herself to the reality of his intentions, and simply leave.

Men ALWAYS look like the bad guy in these kinds of incompatible situations. It's bullshit.

[–]nola_mike 338 points339 points340 points 8 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

Problem is in her story she claims to have made several "nonverbal cues" yet also said he left to get a condom and performed sexual acts with him. At what point is it safe to assume that your nonverbal cues aren't obvious enough to end the date? When should she have been an adult and straight up said "No Thanks"?

After reading the entire thing, it sounds like she hooked up with him and when he texted her the next day saying he enjoyed their date she regretted what happened and accused him. Now he's stuck in this situation.

[–]Kirel_Redhand 172 points173 points174 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

She should have stood up, put her clothes back on and walked out. That is a nonverbal cue.

[–]the_unseen_one 144 points145 points146 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

An equally clear nonverbal cue: remove his penis from your mouth the two times you preformed fellatio on him.

[–]menshouldhaverights 128 points129 points130 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I think this is something a lot of commentors seem to be over looking. She literally sucked his dick... TWICE! If that isn't the most positive non-verbal cue there is I don't know what is.

Apparently girls can literally voluntarily suck your dick and then after decide that they didn't want to and then it's harassment.

[–]Benito_Mussolini 72 points73 points74 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"She sucked your dick twice? Sounds like she just isn't into you man."

[–]Z1rith 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

still cant be sure, check back in later when you have 3 kids together, she still probably wont be that into you but there may be hope in a few more years

[–]the_unseen_one 35 points36 points37 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Apparently having a chick willingly slob your knob twice isn't enough evidence that she is consenting.

[–]Beast_Pot_Pie 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Everyone knows that less than 3 dick suckings per session is rape

[–]the_unseen_one 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Forget enthusiastic consent, you need three enthusiastic dick suckings or else it's rape. What's next?

[–]RapidFireSlowMotion 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I expected a "Gobbler's Knob" joke

[–]number_six 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean imagine if the roles were reversed. Aziz performs oral sex on her, twice then says he was assaulted? Noone would take it seriously.

[–]HAESisAMyth 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let's get the real info:

When should she have been an adult and straight up said "No Thanks"?

Also

When she saw Ansari at the party, she was excited by his celebrity—“Grace said it was surreal to be meeting up with Ansari, a successful comedian and major celebrity”—which the magazines would have told us was shallow; he brushed her off, but she kept after him, which they would have called desperate; doing so meant ignoring her actual date of the evening, which they would have called cruel. Agreeing to meet at his apartment—instead of expecting him to come to her place to pick her up—they would have called unwise; ditto drinking with him alone. Drinking, we were told, could lead to a girl’s getting “carried away,” which was the way female sexual desire was always characterized in these things—as in, “She got carried away the night of the prom.” As for what happened sexually, the writers would have blamed her completely: What was she thinking, getting drunk with an older man she hardly knew, after revealing her eagerness to get close to him? The signal rule about dating, from its inception in the 1920s to right around the time of the Falklands war, was that if anything bad happened to a girl on a date, it was her fault.

I like that the article calls out women for not being adults anymore. This whole paragraph aims to show how a women used to be held responsible for her actions.

[–]Blue_Shoes_2 51 points52 points53 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, it sounds like an overall bad sexual experience, and while it does seem like Ansari may have been pushy or awkward/creepy, the lady doesn't seem blameless herself... she never said no or otherwise made it clear that she wasn't interested, and she gave him oral sex which is an act that requires active effort... so even though it was an awkward/bad sexual situation, it doesn't necessarily mean that he harassed or assaulted her, or used a position of power to coerce her into sex.

He may well have just wanted to have sex with her and not a relationship, and while I may have certain moral opinions on that, it's a free fucking country and you're allowed to have one night stands and sexual partners who are not romantic partners. It's been said that this article is the verbal equivalent of revenge porn, and there's a definite nugget of truth to that.

[–]Keiichi81 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At what point is it safe to assume that your nonverbal cues aren't obvious enough to end the date?

I completely agree with everything you said, I read the whole story as well and my take from it was, Aziz isn't a mind reader, just tell him you don't want to have sex.

I was talking with my girlfriend about this last night and I brought this up, and she said "Grace" probably didn't say anything sooner because she was scared of the way Aziz might react, whether it would be violent or not. It just seems like all of this could have been avoided if she would have straight up laid the ground rules of 'we are not having sex tonight'. Is it naive to think that saying that line isn't that hard to do in a situation like that?

[–]_w00k_ 45 points46 points47 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]moose-rider32 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points36 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

He clearly wasn't interested in a second date. He just wanted to fuck and there's nothing wrong with that.

not really since he was texting her after that about having a good time or whatever.

I don't think he made any mistake other than perhaps being insensitive (by her account). Not hard to see how he would be confused when she sucks his dick in his apartment. Talk about a non-verbal cue amirite?

But seriously why aren't women (and all people) expected to simply say "no" or "this is too much for me I going home" or anything that is verbal. I mean, the whole point of words is that they allow you to communicate things that people can't be sure of just by your behavior. Grown the fuck up.

[–]Jex117 28 points29 points30 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

For all the time and effort being put into teach men to repeatedly ask for consent, there seems to be an alarmingly low amount of effort being put into to teaching women to say no.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yep. Gotta love how we're now getting this sudden, emergency narrative re-routing, seeing as how basically all the men caught up in the scandal are hypocritical, virtue-signalling, "redneck" and "flyover country"-mocking liberals.

All of a sudden now it's "Well who hasn't been accused at this point, they can't all be guilty, this has gone too far" etc.

Ansari helped make that bed, now he can lie in it.

[–]altmehere 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The way I see it, I don't think Ansari deserves what he's getting. But I don't think we'll get anywhere if we manage to let him or people like Cenk Uygur off the hook because it risks creating special exceptions.

I believe the best chance an unfair system has of being overturned is if it is enforced equally, not only on people a particular group does not like.

[–]cubancigar11 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is very simple - you keep watching him - see if he turns blue pill. My bet is he won't. He sold men for his career, not because he had some personal love for women's respect. I don't blame him, I doubt he had many choices. But he has a choice now. His career is almost over in the blue-pilled side of the pond.

As a Muslim man, he actually doesn't have much choice. If he talks red-pill, he will be instantly made into the stereotypical Muslim wife beater etc.

I feel sorry for him, but I don't have any sympathy. This was going to happen. At some point, this was going to happen.

[–][deleted] 837 points838 points839 points 8 years ago (55 children) | Copy Link

The takeaway here is that strong, independent women cannot be expected to remove themselves from situations they don't want to be in, even when nothing is preventing them from doing so.

As such it's men's responsibility to make sure we never make a woman uncomfortable, lest she publicly announce that she was once uncomfortable around us, and we receive the completely just punishment of ruined careers and reputations.

[–]Atheist101 51 points52 points53 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There was a string of comments on another thread about this where they said that even if she gave him a blowjob, that it was probably out of fear and/or she "froze up" and gave him a BJ because of being re-triggered by past abuses.

So now you cant even get consent from a woman without knowing if shes giving legitimate consent, even if your dick is in her mouth and she claims she wants to give you a blowjob. Theres no gray area anymore.

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yep, which if taken as a valid argument basically means that, since no woman can be expected to disclose past traumas, and no woman whose had past trauma can be counted on to provide "valid" consent, that means that no woman can be trusted to provide consent for sexual activity.

You know...like children!

How are more women not insanely insulted by that bullshit implication of that argument.

They'd rather keep their trump card where they can destroy any man when they please rather than be seen as fully responsible adults. It's easier. Speaks volumes about young people in general nowadays, really.

[+]Ithelda4 points 8 years ago [recovered] (28 children) | Copy Link

As a woman I detest that now learning how to stand up for yourself is somehow "victim blaming". It's keeping us in this antiquated gender role pedestal that we're all vulnerable helpless maidens and the strong man is the only one who can be counted on to make choices while we just sit back and let things happen to us. Yeah, it can be hard to communicate, and you can feel weak or awkward or pressured. Learn to speak up and get out of situations. That's your responsibility, you can't expect the world to change so you're never uncomfortable again.

[–]the_unseen_one 39 points40 points41 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a little disturbing that women's magazines from the 60s and 70s had more enforcement of women being adults and standing up for themselves than the media does now. They'd encourage you to leave if he got pushy, to always have money for a cab, not drink too much so you weren't easier to manipulate, and if all else failed and he got handsy after a firm "no", scream bloody murder for the world to hear. Women may be substantially weaker physically, but they're still adults and have a responsibility to behave as such, for their sake and men's.

Even worse that you'll get called sexist, a rape apologist, or worse if you try to help. I just don't want you to feel like you have to fuck or suck a guy because nobody ever taught you how to behave like an adult and say "no". I feel like that's the antithesis of a rape apologist, but I guess not.

[–]originalSpacePirate 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This is good though. Everytime you get these big profile movements like MeToo, TimesUp or HeforShe(remember that train wreck?) Feminazis take it over and completely abandon its sensible and noble cause and turn it into a weapon. Everytime this happens people distance themselves further and further away from the feminist movement and realise what its become. People are seeing how militant and unjust these rabid feminists are hellbent on man hating. Everyones following MeToo and TimesUp, this gives those engaging in revenge porn and man hating way more exposure, pushing sensible people further away. This is the best kind of terrible marketing for the feminist movement

[–]Jex117 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's not a numbers game though. It's only a few hundred militant, outspoken feminists who are pushing the legislation, special interest groups, and diversity hiring. For all the millions of feminists out there, a very small percentage are actually contributing to the problems associated with feminism (I'm not trying to put up a no true scotsman defense here, I'm just pointing out the power structure)

It's great that feminism is fading to give way for egalitarianism, but the reality is they don't need massive numbers, they just need a few vocal feminists in the right institutions.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

For all the millions of feminists out there, a very small percentage are actually contributing to the problems associated with feminism

No it's not. Those in power are in power because those millions of feminists follow the 'few' militant feminists, read their books, read their blogs, vote for them etc.

[–]Jex117 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not necessarily. In many cases we're not talking about people who were ever voted into anything. A big part of 'feminism' relies on people in the private sector, pushing media (movies, magazines, TV, etc).

In this example it's not a numbers problem. Even if >1% of the population were feminists, you'd still get an outspoken few who'd push it wherever they could. It's an appeasement problem. Too many people are too quick to appease an angry feminist with a chip on their shoulder.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's a part of the problem too

[+]orchidelirium2 points 8 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

I would agree with you on so many other of these accusations, but for some reason this Aziz story has been the first to make me feel something. I know what it's like to be young and put in a sexual setting with a rich/famous/powerful man. It's scary, surreal, and paralyzing.

I have had many encounters like this, and that's why I would go long periods of celibacy, because sex never felt good. I thought I was asexual. It's only until now, at 24, that I met a man who was completely respectful, that I was able to finally enjoy sex. I don't think young women really know how to respond to sex since it's so much more different for us than for men. I always just let them do whatever because I thought it was me who was defective (no, it turns out I was just unaroused).

I've been on the same wavelength of, well that's life, and you shouldn't put yourself in these situations, and you should speak up. I agree, and I do, now. But it took being assaulted multiple times to garner that courage.

I had a situation a couple of years ago. A boy I knew for a couple of years was back in town, we dated a little here and there, it was always sexual. I knew he just wanted me for sex, and it was fine. I invited him over to my house. He tried penetrating me without a condom when I made it very clear that was NOT okay. I said NO. He still kept trying, he put his hand on my mouth to make me shut up, he was super aggressive and left me bleeding with bruises.

He was black so I didn't want to report it and ruin his life. I knew I would get over it eventually. But when he texted me the next day I made him meet up with me to apologize, and I explained to him how what he did was wrong. He seemed to think that I "wanted" it for some reason (like I had a rape fantasy). I don't know. But I tried to educate him on how it made me feel, so he just wouldn't do it again. And something got through to him. So I think it comes down to education.

It's just interesting to me. How one man (my boyfriend) is able to discern cues, while it seems the rest of them can't. I don't believe it. I think they are taking advantage of our inability to say something and going with it. IT's obvious when a woman isn't enjoying it. Seriously. Every time sex has hurt and I've felt violated thats because I was dry as a bone. That's a pretty big cue, no? Y'all just ignored that one.

It just seems like the majority of men don't get it. And that is sort of a problem. Men should be at least educated on the basics of female arousal so they can discern better.

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Should men be educated on subtle cues women give, or should women be expected to act like adults and openly communicate their desires? I have to say that I much prefer partners who are willing to be honest with me about what they want, and it leads to better sex.

FWIW, I have no idea how much this would apply to the situation you described, as what you described sounds pretty rapey, but I don’t know all the details and don’t want to jump to any conclusions.

[+]orchidelirium-2 points 8 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

Why completely disregard the concept of physical communication? if a girl is just laying there motionless she's probably dissociated from the entire thing. that's what I used to do (and Grace also described doing this). Just escape my body because I just wanted it to be over as I couldn't even stand being there mentally.

the whole celebrity element seems to be awfully overlooked. I think she would've left much quicker if he wasn't one. it's hard to offend and reject a celebrity.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because physical communication can be ambiguous. Hell, I’ve starfished on occasion when I’ve been very tired or intoxicated, but that doesn’t mean that the sex was unwelcome. Saying “I don’t want to fuck you, I’m going home” is not ambiguous, though.

We shouldn’t infantilize women. If we are to treat women as competent adults (which I wholeheartedly support), then they must be expected to act as competent adults. Expecting someone else to read your mind and blaming them when they fail to comply is childish. If you are not confident that you can make a reasonable effort to assert yourself unambiguously, then you are not ready to have sex.

[–]orcscorper 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women expect men to read their minds for two reasons: one, they believe they can read minds. They are terrible at it, but they keep trying. They think they are super tuned-in, and know what we are thinking better than we do.

Two, female solipsism prevents them from understanding that not everyone thinks the same way that they do. If they are experts at reading nonverbal cues (and minds), then every man should have that same ability. They truly feel that they shouldn't need to verbalize anything that might be uncomfortable. We should just know.

[–]Ymoh- 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So you engaged in activities suited only for adults without having the ability to behave or communicate like an adult and it is the fault of the men you chose to be with. Considering your lame choice making, I am willing to bet these guys were pretty much scumbags anyway.

So yeah, it is everyone else’s duty to “educate themselves” rather than your duty to learn to behave, communicate assertively and make overall better choices.

So very empowered of you. SMH

[+]orchidelirium-3 points 8 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I am by every other measure an adult woman. I live and work "assertively." I am from NYC. Been on my own since I was 18. I'm highly independent and self-sufficient, and have worked hard enough over the years to be able to work for myself by 24.

But I am an artist, and unfortunately creatives fields are ripe for sexual abuse. I don't think the men I've been with were scumbags at all. I'm highly selective of who I choose to sleep with.

You clearly haven't had enough sexual experience to understand the complex nuances of physical intimacy.

[–]Ithelda 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, I'll always get behind better sex education. For women too- I mean, I had a repressed religious upbringing and there was so much I didn't know about my own body, which I know helped escalate some of the bad sexual experiences I've had. Like what you mentioned about not being wet- I had that happen too but I didn't even realize that was a cue that I wasn't aroused. I didn't know what a clitoris was. I didn't know women could orgasm. Anyway, I agree there are men who do take advantage of women. But I don't think the one solution approach of feminism's "make men stop rapingg!!" fixes all the facets that contribute. (Edited, hit save too soon)

[–]silverhand21 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My take away as as adults we need to be better at verbal communication. While a lot of communication is done non-verbaly, verbal communication is a much more effective method of communicating and allows for less ambiguity. While in many situations it is hard to know whether he is picking up on your cues that you are into him or not into him. Using verbal cues we can know if others are understanding our position. As a guy I have had many instances where I did not pick up on the girls non-verbal cues. How was I supposed to know you liked me because you invited me out with your friends. That easily could have meant you liked me as a friend and nothing more. Never presume they know your thoughts by your non-verbal cues. I'm sorry for the bad experiences you've had, bit happy you have found someone who makes your happy.

It's actually worse: strong, independent women can't be expected not to suck a dick when pointed to it.

As such it's men's responsibility to make sure we never make a woman uncomfortable

Worse: it's men's responsibility to take charge of sexuality. All the talk about sexual liberation? right out of the window. Women are children again, in need of male guardianship to make sure that what they're doing is what they actually want to do and what is best for them.

[+]bytor_2112 -76 points-75 points-74 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

huh? what the hell are you talking about and where could that idea possibly find leverage in this situation

[–]Derek1382 60 points61 points62 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Given your combative tone I doubt we're going to have a great, respectful discussion, but let's try:

what the hell are you talking about

I'm talking about the fact that many, many articles about Anzari's case, as well as many articles previously, have insisted upon the principle that women are supposedly unable to reliably verbalize what they want or actively stop or not partecipate in things they don't want.

These same articles don't describe this as an unfortunate reality, but as something that then puts the onus on men to not make anything happen that women don't want.

Put these two together, and you come to the conclusion that women effectively have no agency: all agency that they might have exists solely in their inner word, and they apparently can't exteriorize it in any way that's comprehensible to their partners, who are as a consequence left with all the responsibility.

[+]Mlusted -28 points-27 points-26 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I agree with what you're saying here but unless these bloggers outright say "treat women like children" any decent point you might make on the issue will be dismissed as MRA autistic screeching.

[–]Derek1382 37 points38 points39 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Maybe, but you'd be surprised how many women think exactly like this. Earlier I was reading the FB comments to the The Atlantic piece, and the most liked ones were by women saying the same things I am, in the same words. There are many women who recognize the infantilization that goes on when assuming their entire gender can never be expected to have agency.

[+]Mlusted -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely yeah, from the discussions Ive had with people I know, there is a stark difference in the Feminism we read about in these awful articles compared to the Feminism advocated by the average working woman.

[+][deleted] -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

feminism is awful in all forms, equal opportunity is good but anything beyond that doesnt work, women are simply inferior to men so we cannot expect the same representation and to treat them the same as men in all situations.

[+]bytor_2112 -22 points-21 points-20 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

okay I understand what this comment is trying to say but it doesn't address your initial commentary

Additionally, there's an important factor being left out: it's our responsibility as people in a society to treat people how we'd like to be treated (being considerate, understanding people's individual contexts, etc). For incidents like, for example, Louis CK's, he admitted that his encounters did not account for his position as a respected figure that the involved women felt they couldn't risk offending. In that scenario, he had a blind spot and didn't act with that consideration, and IMO he's shown that he understands what the problem was. So I'm sexual/dating situations or not, interpersonal interactions have to exist within a context of understanding to prevent issues like this

[–]Derek1382 35 points36 points37 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One of the more ludicrous parts of the story is how Anzari pointed to his dick and she went and gave him a blowjob, despite apparently being uncomfortable and unwilling.

We can't expect her to say 'no', for reasons, but can we expect her not to actively perform sex acts she doesn't want when she's not under duress? apparently, according to many, we can't.

The answer is that the majority, even the vast majority of women are decent people. However, the social tides are turning and we are quickly getting to a point where every awkward/subideal sexual experience ever may be reviewed with a fine toothed comb, months/years later, by the public writ large, with only one side of the story being told. And all it takes is one accusation... even unsubstantiated, such an event can seriously fuck your life up.

[–]orcscorper 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Remember John and Lorena Bobbit? She cut off his dick, and claimed it was because he had raped her? My own mother, who I thought was a rational person, expressed that she couldn't believe they sewed it back on. She thought that leaving the man dickless for the rest of his life, on the word of a demonstrably crazy woman, was perfectly fine, so he couldn't "rape" again.

It turns out she thought he was cheating on her, and threw his dick in the front yard of the woman he may or may not have been fucking.

If your wife would never accuse you of rape, you are a lucky man. Not every man, married or single, is so fortunate.

Oh, yeah. You're lame.

This is pretty ridiculous generalizing. It's not like all women are this retarded and walk around with victim complexes. It's popular now, I think because in today's world there's really obvious cause that you can plaster on campus posters, but I think it will slow down. I just wish that in the meantime I didn't have to look to hyper-conservative circles to find a female who doesn't want to witch hunt.

[–]AndrewFGleich 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's interesting that you complain that I made a general statement but than finish your argument by making a broad generalization about where you like to pick up chicks.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm talking about my own experience and I'm not generalizing to the whole population. The way I took your statement was that by saying "someone you hardly know" you are essentially picking them out at random. My point is to be more selective (which is why I am complaining about the process involving the very conservative) but I'm not going to tell you how to live your life.

[–]AndrewFGleich 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough

[–]kragshot 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But the problem is that you just don't know what you are getting until it's too late.

What is happening now is the converse of "rape hysteria" with the exception that not only is what is happening now is legal, it is socially acceptable. The law offers women protection from rape and society offers them support if they are victims of it. What are all of these men like Anasari being offered?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But Ansari isn't being accused of a crime. He's being accused of being misogynist...or something.

I agree there is a big asymmetry in the legal system but I don't think it's incredibly difficult to know if a woman is going to act this way. This cult of oppression is pretty infectious in 20-something females but there are still plenty who don't see it that way.

[–]kragshot 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

He's been tried and found guilty in "the court of popular appeal" and for a celebrity, that is the only court that matters.

His career is in serious jeopardy and if things go the wrong way, he is done. The feminist-alligned media will make sure of it. And he doesn't even have the protection of the law to defend him and his career. He can't even bring a libel or slander suit against her because her account of the encounter is essentially and factually correct.

We are at a point where a bad date is enough for a woman to destroy your life.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree that it's stupid but that's the game you play when you are an entertainer. For some reason, people judge you on your personal life as much as they do on your actual art. All that can be done about it is to tell this current wave of feminists that it doesn't make any sense to behave this way, but we all know where that goes.

I will continue advocating for the rights of men to have the presumption of innocence when they're accused, but it's hard for me to call myself a men's rights activist because I see so much of the very same mob mentality here that I hate seeing in rushes to judgment of men accused of misconduct.

[–]Symphonous 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you watch master of none on Netflix he takes on topics such as catcalling and sexual harassment and often errs on the side of women. I mostly agree with the points made in these episodes but the tone is a little white knight

[–]IDisagreeHere 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I enjoy the show overall. I think Aziz is an intelligent and generally honest dude. He strays into feminism but I've seen him defend the difficulties males face as well. That being said, Master of None is a show that definitely takes a feminist slant in lots of its episodes. I'll use an example episode from the first season.

In this episode, the show starts by showing the difference in a night out for Aziz and night out for Aziz's girlfriend Rachel. Aziz has a carefree time out. He walks home and cuts through a dark park. It's fun and trivial. Rachel is hit on by "niceguys" and one follows her home. The contrast is supposed to show the small burdens women face that men aren't aware of. Personally, I think there's a glaring refutation of this. I mean guys nights out have their own disadvantages and womens nights out have their own privileges--and we're all intrinsically a little ignorant about the opposite sex's privileges and disadvantages. But this is a feminist viewpoint so it is what it is.

The real problem I have is the main part of the episode. Aziz is in a commercial directed by a guy named Brad. I forget exactly how this happens, but they convince Brad that the girls shouldn't just be eye candy and should be the forefront of the commercial. Aziz's part takes a backseat and the women get the lead. At the wrap party for the commercial, Brad comes up and shakes Aziz and his male friend's hand, but doesn't say hello to Aziz's girlfriend and another female at the table.

The episode centers around these women bitching about what a sexist asshole Brad is. Brad! The dude that rewrote the script to make the women have a bigger role! And they're mad at Aziz for sticking up for him! Aziz! The dude that took a cut so they could have the bigger role. But all that is completely irrelevant because Brad didn't shake their hand at a fucking afterparty. It's absolutely infuriating that anyone could be so tone deaf as to write that. If that were a true story, I'd be embarrassed to be connected at all to that sort of shitty behavior. But it's not a true story. It's fiction, that two feminists wrote to display their point. Given complete narrative freedom, this is the most compelling argument they could string together.

[–]XGC75 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The way you explain the episode it sounds beautifully satirical.

Most places it's legal to record, especially in your own home, and if not in general then often for your own personal use. Often a judge can decide whether it is later admissible as evidence, but if they want justice then it seems reasonable to admit something that is damning proof.

[–]ROBOTN1XON 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

you should watch Dave Chappelle's love contract skit: https://vimeo.com/183089808

also, maybe have some evidence when making claims. As long as you put notice on your property that recording is taking place, it is legal to record. How do you think shopping centers record shop-lifting in every state?

in regards to text messages or written communication, the courts have ruled that any form of written transmission can be used as evidence. unless you are using telepathy to communicate, assume someone can use it as evidence against you.

recording someone during an intimate moment is a gray area if there is no notice of recording on property. Also, you should probably just have a pre-sex discussion about being clean from STD's, and some ground rules. In my experience, taking a few minutes before sex to make sure everyone is on the same page is appreciated by the other party. I know it "kills the mood" but if a 5 minute conversation prevents you from having sex with someone, you probably shouldn't be having sex with them to begin with. Food for thought

[–]McFeely_Smackup 115 points116 points117 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is directly on the forecast of "stuff we now consider sexual misconduct", completely predictable from the point where we decided Louis C.K. had done something inexcusable by asking for consent of women who "respected him too much to say no".

If you think this has hit bottom, you're wrong.

Feminized society has been stigmatizing male sexuality for generations, and now has found the opportunity to criminalize it as well. I honestly pity young men today, they're navigating a minefield every time they leave home.

[–]Blue_Shoes_2 35 points36 points37 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

To be honest, what Louis did was pretty gross, and I can understand why a young person might be like, "lol, sure" if someone they looked up to asked if they could jack off... the man was a comedian and they probably thought it was a joke at first.

At the same time, there really wasn't an element of coercion, let alone a threat of physical force. He didn't say, watch me jack off or I'll torpedo your career, or, watch me jack off or I'll kill you. He simply asked if he could jack off and they agreed that he could.

So it was pretty gross, but at the same time, he's a middle aged divorcee with a gut, so he's probably starved for sexual/romantic attention, and the encounter was consensual by every definition of the word. It's incredible to me that feminism has come to a point where we are actually judging sexual morality more harshly than it ever has been before.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 65 points66 points67 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't think Louis thing is any more gross than any other sex act, once you get past the idea that "all male sexuality is gross and disgusting", which is exactly the script that's been pushed for a few decades now.

If it had come out that Sarah Silverman liked to masturbate in front of people, every feminist in the world would be defending that as perfectly normal, a strong independant woman, and you'd be lucky to be invited to stand in the splash zone.

What choice does he have? What choice do any of us have? I live in fear every day as a father with a teen daughter that one of her friends makes an idle comment about anything inappropriate and it causes me to be crucified. I don't drive her and her friends alone, i. Never alone in my home with them and I certainly never put myself in situations that could ever be misconstrued. On the rare occasions I've given rides to my daughter's friends and was alone, I out my phone on video record, place it on the dashboard of my car aimed at myself and drive the whole way with it recording until they make it into the house safe. Because I am not going to jail while some teen girl gets famous on instagram. Gotta be smarter than the game in my opinion.

I'm with you man, and it's pretty sad... girls and young women can learn a lot from men (just as boys and young men can learn from women) and to totally end that possibility of mentorship because of a not unjustified fear of accusations... it's really unfortunate.

It's also kind of funny. We live in an era of unprecedented peace and safety, with murder orders of magnitude less common than it was in yesteryear, when women can go around alone at night, even buzzed, without a significant fear of being attacked--and if they are raped, they are merely a few screams or a call to 911 away from help. But these sexual assault allegations really worry me... all it takes is one to ruin your life forever.

[–]Rheticule 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuuuuuck. I have two daughters, I was very happy about that, as I figured at least I don't have to deal with my sons having false accusations against them. I'm just realizing that when my daughters grow up, in the one that will be running a gauntlet. Guess it's time to throw myself into my career!

I thought it would take a little longer for the hit squad of privileged young white women to open fire on brown-skinned men. I had assumed that, on the basis of intersectionality and all that, they’d stay laser focused on college-educated white men for another few months. But we’re at warp speed now, and the revolution—in many ways so good and so important—is starting to sweep up all sorts of people into its conflagration: the monstrous, the cruel, and the simply unlucky.

No. Just no. Justice is not supposed to be based on color, nor gender, nor anything like that. Crime should be punished, the guilty punished. Period.

"There was no problem when it was just white men being targeted, but now that the mob has moved on to men of color, there's a problem".

[–]PepperDoesStuff 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That's not the point she was making at all. She wasn't saying criticizm of non-white men SHOULD have been delayed, but that based on her understanding of tge dynamics at play, she anticipated it WOULD be delayed.

I disagree. The author of this piece also wrote "to hell with the witch hunt" and other articles flatly denying any type of mistake with sexual allegations could be made. No mistake, no witch hunt, no dissent.

Only now the target is someone she likes. Now its the privileged white female hunter packs at fault.

Sorry, she's a little to late for her lamentations

It's truly strange that the author, even in her middle ages, seems totally ignorant about the fact that it's women's hypergamy that leads women to these situations where "every man is the same". If they dated average joes the problem wouldn't exist. But when they "all" want these "alphas" they are going to end up with guys who take advantage of the situation.

Who could tell women what they are and where it leads? Apparently nobody is telling at the moment.

What a great quote

[–]GreyTortoise 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

"Temporarily" powerful? As if this has not happened for uncounted time until now? A woman claims a man did something and there is an immediate stigma. They have always had this power, it's a scientifically proven phenomenon called the 'Women are Wonderful' effect and it's a huge piece of the gynocentrism that runs our social world.

What we are seeing is a first, second, and now third wave of feminism have come to pass. Indeed in the past there was a patriarchal social structure in the West, and it was designed with the chivalry of old in mind. Coddling women so they might feel safe, provided for, and easier to court.

The first wave came, achieved basic rights that were well-deserved for a better-functioning society. The second wave came, brought about better social standing and a more equal view of women in all facets, and with its coming the male-based structure of leadership slowly became all-inclusive.

And the third wave...like the Third Reich it came lashing at those it might call its 'old enemies', it would see many silenced, disadvantaged, dehumanized while offering absolute safety to its own at extreme cost to any who could possibly be called a threat, true or false. It did this, and we have finally all begun as a society to feel appalled that we would do this to our own neighbors and family, let what was supposed to be a voice of liberty and equality shout down a large portion of the population because of who they were. The authoritarian assault on men's right to equal parenthood, denying funding at all costs toward battered men's shelters, demonization of the male gender as sexual predators, the list could go on but we cut it here.

We're done with this third wave, there'll not be a fourth. Men will speak up, and women with them. The women already speak, they say this has gone too far. This time will be forgotten and we will move collectively toward an egalitarian commune. Not yet today, or even tomorrow morning, but some night we will have a restful sleep and awaken to a world where men and women are not troubled and fighting for their resolutions alone, as separate groups. We will work together knowing it is the only way to truly have equality, and we will indeed have it.

For what has happened to Aziz? He will be fine, #MeToo has begun collapsing under its own falsehoods. It did all the good it could and it is now its own prey.

"Apparently there is a whole country full of young women who don’t know how to call a cab, and who have spent a lot of time picking out pretty outfits for dates they hoped would be nights to remember. They’re angry and temporarily powerful, and last night they destroyed a man who didn’t deserve it."

Holy shit this article is basically saying millenials ruined dating.

What I got out of the article is that in the author’s day they stood up for themselves and these situations NEVER would have happened back in the 70’s when women had to be taught to beat the shit out of a man if he’s acting untoward to you, because again ladies, men can’t control their disgusting urges, and they can’t be blamed for the things they do when in the presence of beautiful scantily clad women.

Bring on the downvotes, this was a poorly written opinion piece,

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

women werent taught that, women are unable to beat the shit out of men because women are too weak. However they at least could say no and walk away back then, these days they cannot even do that in many cases it seems, and their pathetic excuse seem to be because the guys are famous. So basically they cant take responsibility for being greedy about attention from famous guys.

why do liberals always have such a cheeky attitude that seems like, "oh well I'll repeat back to you the exact same argument even though it makes absolute non sense - and then follow up with a psuedo-conclusive 'case-closed, gotchya' type remark that assumes a position of (ironic?) irrelevant weakness?"

Almost as if to say, "I can't win the actual debate, but the point we were arguing doesn't actually matter - what matters is that anybody with a different opinion than the official Libtarded dogma is mentally unfit for debate in the first place."

It's like hey, y'all are entitled to your shithole opinions, but don't think you can drag everyone else down into your shithole with the rest of yous. Have a stance and say it and if you can't back it up just keep your mouth shut.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link

Tell me, what exactly is “a liberal”? Because it seems like the word of choice for anyone who seem to dislike any sort of progressive thinking, used to describe anyone they hate. Anti fossil fuels? Dirty librul! Think universal healthcare’s a good idea? Dirty librul! Regardless of whether they’re pro any traditionally conservative point of view.

Do you know my politics? Of course not, but I’m “a liberal” because I drew attention to someone politicising something that isn’t quintessentially political.

Any debate where there’s an antagonist and you’ll get the usual knobheads going on about “liberals” and making it political. It’s reductive and fucking stupid. That is why people who take this line are often treated as stupid. Because they’re fucking acting it.

My views aren’t easily pigeonholed though, for what it’s worth. They don’t fit in an easy to label box, despite stupid idiots trying to make them. I suspect there are millions like me.

So try and treat people like individuals. Stop the dumb black and white thinking. Stop making everything an us vs them situation, because the truth is we’re all getting fucked. Conservative, Liberal, and everyone in between. And keeping us fighting among ourselves is what prevents any real progress or equality from developing.

Apologies for not replying directly to your post btw, but I found it a bit rambling, without many concise points, so I replied broadly.

[–]professor_mcamateur 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Hurr durr muh libruls!

lmao tell me more about how knobheads are "black and white thinking." much projection.

the problem, in recent years, is that liberals, progressives, lefties, etc. have no platform. all the do is "resist" and that isn't progressive by nature, but it is regressive. Like Ghandi or Mother Theresa might have said - don't be "anti-war" be "pro-peace."

you can be pro-alternative energy. that doesn't change the fact that modern society as we know it comes to a screeching halt he minute we stop everybody who burns those sweet, stinky hydrocarbons. it releases H20 into the air

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

How am I employing black and white thinking when you and the other people to whom I replied immediately labelled me as a “liberal” and based the rest of their post on that assumption, without knowing a damn thing?

Also, I notice that you immediately moved the goalposts and started in on “progressives, lefties, liberals” etc. This doesn’t make any sense at all. You still don’t know a thing about my politics or views but that doesn’t stop you launching your standard attack on your personal bogeyman.

Saying that people with left-leaning views have no platform is a nonsense. I mean, where are you even getting that from? There are myriad ‘platforms’. Green energy, wealth inequality, expeditionary military deployment, taxation. Pick one.

Also, your closing comment about renewables is immensely short sighted and exactly the sort of thing you initially laid at the feet of “liberals”. It smacks of a person happy to accept the reasoning handed to them by whatever media outlet he or she deems trustworthy.

Restriction of fossil fuel use has already reaped huge rewards and driven creativity forward but big business wields almost all of the power in the world, and petrochemical companies have been wilfully holding back renewable energy for decades.

Furthermore, if renewable energy is such a pipe dream why are so many noteworthy funds dissolving their interests in fossil fuels and investing heavily in renewables?

But let’s not make this a discussion solely on green energy concerns. Let’s get back to what we were discussing: the silly us vs them attitude that seems to be everywhere now.

[–]professor_mcamateur -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

ahem, closet liberal. does that sound better?

everybody can mostly agree on what would be better for everybody - the disagreement is on how do we get there and why rely on government to do the work in an effort to "speed things up." that usually doesn't help much at all.....

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I just find it intriguing that all it took was metoo hitting a brown liberal smug celebrity who comes from a muslim family to turn the tide on reddit.

Feminists apparently are << muslims on the identity politics game.

I don't care about the means -- the ends are fine with me if they end this ridiculous witch hunt in society.

[–]chambertlo 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, the hierarchy is feminists>blacks>Muslims>trannies>gays. No other group matters to those people.

Eventually, overcome by her emotions at the way the night was going, she told him, “You guys are all the fucking same,” and left crying.

And we have now reached the India standard that if a man does not want a committed relationship, all sex is rape....or was that the Victorian standard.

Seriously, feminism is now openly reactionary.

The top story on r/television is about Aziz and most of the comments seem to be taking his side. It looks like common sense might finally be starting to prevail. Even the media and Hollywood are mostly on his side. This could finally be a turning point where people realize that Metoo has gone too far.

I am not sure if it is allowed to say such things, as I am new to this subreddit, but the chosen title seems to generalize things a lot and I kinda expected generalization to be the enemy this subreddit tries to destroy.

It was only a matter of time before they put forward an obviously awkward, yet fairly common, sexual encounter as "problematic". Feminists always overplay their hand and discredit their own cause. Hence why the vast majority of women and men don't identify as feminists.

Though I disagree with his politics, hopefully this sheds some light on how ridiculous this crusade against men is getting. The definition of sexual assault is so vague that the noise it creates drowns out the true assault victims.

I found this. What do you guys think?

She may not have been raped but weren't Aziz's actions selfish? It was all about his own sexual gratification. If he is the only one acting in this situation and the girl he's with is being acted upon, she is definitely not into it. What about respect for the other person? Empathy? Did Aziz ask her once if she wanted to get undressed, wanted to have sex? He just did it all for her. He kept pushing her to do things and she kept pulling back. This whole situation could have been avoided if he wanted her to have a good time whether they fucked or not instead of it just being about him.

Man, if these bitches feel uncomfortable, they should say something, he said the sex was consensual, therefore, if she felt uncomfortable, she should have said something instead of just NOW saying something. Fuckin' bitch. Poor Aziz, his career is gonna turn to SHIT now. Master of... None (is it?) is gonna get cancelled along with his future projects, poor guy.

For claiming to be such a paragon of virtue and virtue signaling so hard, even in his second season, then being such a skeevy little fuck.

Fuck him. There are better men who deserve to be defended.

[–]iaminfamy 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

She went down on him and then he asked for sex.

A man asking a woman for sex after she's already going down on him is not abuse.

She chose to suck his dick. That was consent.

[+]MaxwellFinium -9 points-8 points-7 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

She repeatedly both verbally and non verbally told him she was not comfortable continuing.

But go ahead and defend the hypocritical little creep. This Isn’t a Men’s Right issue. He made his bed. Now he has to sleep in it.

[–]iaminfamy 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And he called her a cab.

I'm not defending him as much as I'm calling her, and people like you, out.

She was not assaulted. A man asked for sex after getting his dick sucked and got turned down. Multiple times and then he got her a cab.

No person's life deserves to be ruined over those actions alone.

Doesn't matter what they did or did not defend or stand up for in the past.

[–]aokusman 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think what the other guy is saying is that Aziz supports the believe all women movement and is getting a taste of his own medicine.

[–]iaminfamy 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I understand that now that you've worded it that way.

But I feel the two are mutually exclusive in this case.

He didn't assault or abuse her therefore there is no behavior to abhor.

In my eyes he was simply acting in a normal manner and this woman is slandering him.

This has nothing to do with the #metoo movement or feminism. This woman was unhappy with a botched hookup and was convinced by her friends to slam Aziz. She had to be convinced that she had been "assaulted". This coming just after the man wins an award.

Had he not been a celebrity she never would have even considered accusing this dude of assault. It would have just been another botched date. Of which is sounds like she's been on many.

I'm not defending him exactly. I really don't care for Aziz or his work but the dude doesn't deserve to have his career put in jeopardy over a consentual sexual encounter that ended abruptly. Regardless of whatever hashtag movement the guy was apart of.

[–]aokusman 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with you. This is dangerous for men in the public eye. Still waiting for the lesbian accusation. Since women don’t lie, who will be believed.

[–]tallwheel 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think he was saying that at first, but at some point started to argue that he did something wrong in the sexual encounter.

She repeatedly both verbally and non verbally told him she was not comfortable continuing. But go ahead and defend the hypocritical little creep.

[–]orcscorper -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Did she verbally tell him she was uncomfortable continuing? That's the story now, but originally she said he should have read her nonverbal clues. Only when the story blew up, did media outlets claim that she gave him clear verbal clues that she didn't want sex. And apparently, they didn't have sex. He called her a cab. So, what's the problem?

[–]MaxwellFinium 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The main problem is he set himself up as this paragon of virtue who respects women and thinks that any time they accuse someone of a misdeed it should be believed regardless. Then he acted like a complete hypocrite.

This is why nobody takes Men’s Rights seriously.

What's up with the shitty title on the article? Are we going to start saying that all women are "Angry and dangerous" every time something like this happens? This is the shit we've been fucking complaining about when people say say "Men are pigs" when their boyfriend cheats and "men are rapists" when they see it reported in the news. I don't like this shit happening either, but we shouldn't ever encourage or support this kind of sensationalized, sexist garbage.

[–]chambertlo 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

They are angry and dangerous, though. It’s not sexist to call a spade a spade. Open your eyes. A woman can ruin a mans career just by accusing him of something he didn’t do. How is that not dangerous? Grow the fuck up.

[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Oh? Okay, well considering men are responsible for 95% of violence and murders, as well as 75% of sexual violence, I guess men are rapists and killers, very dangerous and angry compared to women eh? Fuck it let's just be regressive and ignorant

[–]spoida[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

From personal experience - women get away with so much that your statistics mean nothing.

Women are perpetrators of SO much domestic violence and get away with it most of the time, they are just as capable of being abusive partners and it's a hell of a lot different for a man to admit to anyone that their black eye is from their girlfriend/wife.

Sexually, women are just as bad and society is only just coming to terms with equality going both ways. Have you not noticed that the amount of women who abuse their positions of authority and are having sexual relationships with minors just keeps rising?

You say "men" as if you lump us all in to one category without even taking race in to account.

Your statistics are bullshit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Oh okay. White men commit half of crime, black men commit the other half. A few % give or take, done. You're still a retard for trying to argue that women are just as violent as men as a whole.

[–]spoida[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

White men commit half of crime, black men commit the other half.

Not even close

Women are violent and are getting worse. You must not get out much or know many different people.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You're right, white men are actually 65% of total crime.

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-43

[–]spoida[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's because there are more of us, dumbass.. When you take in to account the amount of blacks versus whites its a different story altogether. And for some reason your stupid country counts hispanics and arabs as white.

Once again, your statistics are bullshit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ohh. So statistically speaking blacks commit crime at a higher rate, unless they're men, then it's all women's fault? Got it.

That’s sounds really sexist and hateful dude. Men’s rights isn’t about putting men above women, it’s about equal rights which is inherently involved with improving the rights of both men and women, and getting equal treatment.
