I discovered FDS about a year and a half ago - like many others I stumbled onto it after being hurt in a previous relationship and wanting more for myself than the meaningless casual hookups that are expected of women in my age group (early 20s). I swore off men for a while, and it coincided with the pandemic so I’ve been voluntarily celibate for a little over a year.

Here’s the thing: I used to be very high sex-drive, very into dating apps and going out on multiple dates a week with different men. After I took stock of my life and became celibate, I don’t even want to do much as look at another man. While I might still see a guy at the gym and think he’s attractive, I do not feel any impulse to make my presence known to them. I don’t fantasize about them, I don’t even think about them when I masturbate. The thought of getting on dating apps is abhorrent to me, the concept of dating itself just seems like something entirely outside of my comprehension.

I’m having a great time. I like spending time alone, I have great friends I hang out with on weekends, a solid job, good fitness routine…I just don’t see the point of messing all of that up? I’ve recently been contacted by a few LVM from my past but it left me completely unfazed - I either ignored, responded with a short and blunt message, or blocked.

I honestly feel like I could keep doing this forever. I have no desire to have children or get married. But the thing is I don’t know if this attitude means I’m fully healed from my past experiences or if it means I’m afraid of being hurt again, of being used and cast aside. Maybe it’s a bit of both? FDS has pulled back the veil for me and made me realize how ugly society and men are towards women. I don’t know if I can ever get over that disgust enough to actually entertain the thought of dating someone.
