As a 28 year old Millennial, I feel like my generation is very confused and headed in the wrong direction when it comes to this. Keeping in touch and staying friends with someone that you were intimate with is NOT normal to me but I feel like it’s normalized among my peers. I just watched an acquaintance’s Instagram story which consisted of like seven different pics of her and her ex boyfriend along with happy birthday messages to him! I looked at his profile and she was commenting on his pics with his new girlfriend and saying what a cute couple they were. I feel that this is inherently low value behavior but why has it become so acceptable lately?? When a sexual/ romantic relationship ends, what is even the point of staying in contact? Even going no contact or blocking now feels like it’s cruel or overkill when there’s this unspoken expectation that you remain “friends” and act like everything’s cool. Just had to rant a little because it really bugs me a lot.
