Grandma told me to only buy cast iron cookware ‘as a precaution’. LOL we know she meant keep that pan on your hip.

It's a neg. The point is to prompt you into rattling off your resume in hopes of impressing him. It's really the most blatant neg you'll see.
If a guy really thought you had nothing to offer, he wouldn't be talking to you.
[–]larxxxiii 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Woah is that why they always try to impress women about their career goals and education? I've had guys do that all the damn time like as if it was a job interview and then judge me when i don't have my life as put together as them. I'm actively trying to improve myself to get ahead in my career path, but it still makes me feel bad about myself when they start trying tho impress me with all their stuff and seem disappointed when I'm not at their level..
[–]herbivorouscarnivoreFDS Newbie 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you really break down what they say, have they really accomplished anything, or are they just good at talking big?
A lot of you would probably think I’m some big shot if I told you that I executed communication for upwards of 50 clientele on any given day, and that every month I was responsible for coordinating catering for educational supplementation.
Raised your hand if you guessed I used to be a receptionist and called Subway for our monthly lunch-and-learns.
[–]CandidKickFDS Newbie 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes.
They want us to feel like WE need to impress THEM. I don’t need a man. I don’t need to impress anyone.

I've only ever been asked this by a man who was entirely too damn old for me. He saw it as a way of 'humbling young girls who only bring their youth and looks.' I laughed so hard at him and reminded him that he lied about his age to get me to go out with him. (This guy was 2 years older than my mom and his daughters were all older than me.) I said I left something in my car and drove off. If men have nothing else they have audacity.
[–]Revy_Ur_EnginesFDS Newbie 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s stupid because he dated went out with a younger woman because of her youth and looks 🙄

Someone asked me that question once and I was like... what is the right answer to that question? Insert ??? face.
Uh uh uh. Hemming and hawing followed by the forward lean and the fingers on his chin.
MY special talent. OptionalCookie: will instantly make a date awkward by calling you out on your bullshit.
I just said I had to do something else not here and I left.

He just said that like it was the thing that seals the deal for him.

I've never been asked this but if I was it would probably be an insta-block.
This is such an unattractive thing to say. Like just say you're looking for a sugar daddy and stop dating women because that's what you sound like jfc.
[–]herbivorouscarnivoreFDS Newbie 41 points42 points43 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I’m imagining all the replies I could make, but I’d just block, too. How dare he expect me to prove I’m worthy of him? lol If anything, he should be showing me why he deserves my time.

Exactly and how much you wanna bet the types that say this are 10x uglier than the women they say it to.
[–]cml678701FDS Newbie 290 points291 points292 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
i’ve never understood why they would ask that, anyway. Clearly, if they asked you out, they have decided you’re worth it. They should be trying to show what they bring to the table, so you will give them a chance. I guess things are different in these 50/50 times, though. A man might as well just go on a date with any woman he meets if it isn’t costing him anything.
[–]AnniaTFDS Disciple 256 points257 points258 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
For men they're not selective to have sex with you. They actually want 1st date no investment sex. But to be in a committed relationship suddenly they have all these table excuses.

This. Do you think it’s because pickmes chase them so their egos are overinflated? And pickmes are abundant?
[–]XRozeFDS Newbie 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not sure but I find it SO WEIRD how men are either incels or allergic to commitment. There’s like ZERO grey area. I would love for someone to research why this is
[–]Inspection-CriticalFDS Newbie 55 points56 points57 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I know for sure pickmes are abundant, but I also think it's delusion from growing up in a world that coddles men, and the easy availability of porn hasn't helped. A lot of men seem to think women are easy to obtain (thanks in part to women usually having low self-esteem), so they're shocked and freak out when shown otherwise.

This is why I’ve always been slightly envious of people with grannies/grandmas in their lives, they are a wealth of knowledge!
[–]Shot_Presence_8382FDS Newbie 88 points89 points90 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
My paternal grandmother lived in another state and my maternal grandmother I never met, but my mom had me when she was nearly 40 years old, so she's always said she's kinda like my mom and my grandma because of her age. She has tons of life experience and has lots of stories about growing up in the 50s and 60s and being in her 20s during the 70s. She also has a wealth of knowledge and I always love her advice and stories she tells me. She says men really haven't changed much in terms of motivation. The motivation for anything they do regarding a woman is always sex as their end goal.
[–]qwaliYFDS Newbie 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
My mum had me around that age too! I used to hate that I had an old mum growing up, but as I get older I do realize it's a good thing!
[–]Shot_Presence_8382FDS Newbie 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah my mom was seasoned in life lessons when she had me. I appreciate having an older mom! When I was a kid, I always used to say I wanted my kids later in life like she did. It didn't go that way for me (I had my first kid at 24), but I always thought it would be cool to be the older, wiser mother. She had me at 39 and my brother at 41. Both naturally and had healthy vaginal births with both of us. Threw that last part in there cuz men like to make women think they lose value and reproductive abilities after 25 😉

Grannies are women who have lived long enough to verbalize what your gut is telling you every day.
If something makes you feel apprehensive, uneasy, or offended, LISTEN. If someone does something that unsettles you, don't wait for your brain to catch up. You have millenia of evolved instincts screaming for you to survive.
How's that for biology?

[–]lvioletsnowFDS Newbie 41 points42 points43 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
That's part of what the dowry or bride wealth was meant to act as, no? Even though there seems to be anecdotal evidence men abused that too.
E: The ring/wedding jewels too. You could sell that for contingency money if he suddenly decided to bounce.
[–]Mimosa_usagiFDS Newbie 45 points46 points47 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Men would usually take the money because women weren't allowed to own property. Some took it as a payment for taking on the "burden" of having a woman around. 🙄 Honestly this shit was always a bum deal for women.
[–]lvioletsnowFDS Newbie 59 points60 points61 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Women are burdens. Alright. Cut them loose on their own like men when they become adults. Oh wait, your lives are falling apart and you can't reproduce (i.e. China's leftover men)?Who could have possibly seen that happening?
How are men the logical sex? Just treat us like people ffs.

India's economy would crash without all the unpaid labor of women. It's crazy how undervalued we are.
[–]blueboobs-FDS Newbie 49 points50 points51 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because of sex selective abortion India’s economy is now struggling because they now actually have to pay for domestic labor they would have been able to rob from women for free upon having her pushed into marriage. Fuk em.
[–]seraphinelysionFDS Apprentice 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Some took it as a payment for taking on the "burden" of having a woman around.
Women were only a "burden" because she didn't have her own money, couldn't make money, couldn't get a job, couldn't get an education, couldn't do anything without permission from a man. I wonder who made the system like that? And then had the audacity to complain about it?? 🤔
[–]Mimosa_usagiFDS Newbie 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yet without a woman to run the house, care for the children, and feed everyone they wouldn't have been able to do as much to earn that money. Their life would be a hell of a lot harder. They are even blind to how that system benefited them for so long.

If they can't see immediately what I bring, and it's more like a job interview, I'm happy to get my food to go, go back home, cuddle with my kitties and watch TV. Dates should never be interviews. Asking what I bring... what? for him to use? exploit? manipulate? big no thanks. I can't even muster the energy to ask that question back, it seems so user-ish.
[–]SpittensFDS Newbie 162 points163 points164 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Me: "I built the damn table as well as the house around it (literally, woodworking is one of my hobbies), sooo the real question is what makes you worthy of a seat at it?"

When someone asks that it instantly kills any potential attraction, emotion, warmth, humanity- it reduces the date to a transactional calculation or something akin to a job interview but it's exactly an insight into an average man's thinking. Scrote, you are not the prize/employer here, I'm not here to enumerate all my qualities and try to convince you of my utility 👋

I interpreted maintenance as it’s their job to meet the standards.
And I think women should feel proud being high maintenance. It’s a sign of strong self worth.
