When I was in high school my dad got a job as a university professor. I was allowed to sit in on his lectures over the summer and of course as a teen I thought it was really cool. I was talking to my boyfriend about how his students liked me and sent me flowers and candy when I was recovering from surgery. This pissed him off for some reason and he said "You think you're some kind of princess because your dad's an adjunct professor. You're not smart just because you took your daddy's class". It really hurt my feelings but at that time I had low self esteem anyway so I took his insults. I wish I had FDS back then, I would have stood up for myself.

Let me tell you how many men have straight up, I stg, said these things:

“Oh wow you must think you know everything.”

“Not everyone has a freak memory like yours.”

“Maybe if you didn’t spend all your time with your nose in a book you’d have a better understanding of how real people function.”

“Oh wow listen to you talking like you’re about to take the SAT, use smaller words.”

Etc, etc.

My intelligence has been weaponized against me countless times and I’m proud that of all the messed up and codependent pick me crap I’ve done over the years, that’s one area where I never let the negging and insecurities of men make me small. One guy I dated told me “Your vocabulary makes me nervous.” I told him to read more books and leave me alone. Why am I expected to dumb myself down for the comfort of men? Or anyone?

There’s a lot more one liners men use in different areas but this one has been my biggest annoyance since I was a teenager. Men don’t like openly intelligent women.
