Ok. Most of these things only work in movies and for teenagers...and maybe for people in a well established relationship, who've already and still do high effort dates in the mix.

Otherwise I'd say maybe its too much make believe that some women would settle for these to be first dates.

FDS acceptable dates: dinner at a respectable restaurant movies afterwards is okay movies on its own and you cant chat to get to know each other, if you're into museums or art exhibits or galleries thats a good one too as long as its a respectable venue and not a hippies selling stuff at a park and he's calling that an "art show", other ideas tickets to theatre, paint / pottery class, ballroom dancing class (not for 1st date), amusement park, some people do ice skating/ bowling / golf, the zoo or an aquarium *for all these things though I mean they have to be actual events not some dumpy location or something trashy he is hyping up!

I believe most men genuinely don't like to spend time with women, but they are attracted to them so they "put up with it." Look at how easy it is for them to plan out of state boys trips, game nights, superbowl parties, bbqs. Meanwhile for a woman they wanna fuck it's Netflix and chill, thrifting, or a walk. Yea. What gets me is not all of these are cheap. Theme parks, boating, horseback riding, all very expensive “dates”.

There seems to be this issue with men where they HAVE to have an activity built into all social encounters. They’re incapable of simply sitting down across from another human being over a meal and having open honest communication, instead there has to be some type of physical activity to rely on so they’re not forced to use any emotional intelligence.

You see this with their friendships too, they can’t just spend quality time with their friends, it has to be part of some larger activity or goal like fishing, golf, playing video games, etc. Whereas I can meet my best friend for brunch and just talk. Heck there doesn’t even have to be food, I can just meet her at her house or talk on the phone.

It’s this fear of open honest communication without an activity to hide behind that stands out for me.

I take exception to thrifting being a poor date. I love thrifting. I would be thrilled to find a great guy that I could take on a thrift hunt, maybe hit a couple estate sales or an auction. We would drive around to the different shops and sales, talk up a storm, compare Playlists on the car stereo, check out each other's style in thrift acquisitions, then have a nice dinner. And if he turns out to be no fun, I would at least have found something cool at the local Savers!

But I have yet to find a man who can keep up with me on a thrift adventure, so I will have to be content doing it with my girlfriends & family. Heck, last time I went thrifting with my teens, they pooped out before my AARP aged self did! (We were visiting Chicago and ubered from one thrift shop to another, super fun & I got a pair of Ferragamo flats for $3. Windy City has great shopping, even far from the Magnificent Mile)
