Yeah, it's call or fold. He's cornered her. If she doesn't want to spend the next few years mommying him and his animals while he does anything he fucking wants, she's got to throw him out. It's obviously the only consequence he'll respect, and even then only if she goes through with it. He's killed this relationship, she just hasn't accepted it yet.

any whiff of an obsession with “gaming” and i’m out. hobbies are cool and all but when gaming becomes your sole motivating factor to live and your life revolves around it, there’s a problem. girl needs to pack it up and call it a day. there’s no salvaging that relationship. no matter how good of a man he is, the one minute total she gets of his time and attention a week is not worth that level of aggravation and neglect.

As a bird momma hearing about the way he neglects that poor macaw hurts me more than him neglecting his pickme. Cats are independent and don't rely on as much social interaction as birds do. I'm surprised she didn't mention the bird has started plucking itself.

I’ll admit, I used to be an obsessive gamer when I was in high school. I had a lot of social anxiety growing up, and chose gaming as my means of escape. I did this all through high school, college and grad school. I didn’t really manage to break the habit until a couple years ago, and to be honest, I don’t even remember how I broke it. It was just that one day, video games weren’t as fun or as satisfying to play anymore.

That being said, I can’t recall ever being at the point where I let necessary tasks slip as badly as I’ve heard some male gamers have. I always managed to complete my schoolwork, study for my exams, dress nicely, eat proper meals (with my parents’ help during high school admittedly), and certainly, I always bathed and brushed my teeth and I still slept a decent amount. At my worst during my obsession I was playing 6-8 hours a day (slightly less during the school year) and I still managed to get everything done. How is it that this guy can’t even hold a conversation? I don’t understand why these guys can’t get other shit done. I mean it’s not like he’d need to stop playing games entirely—he’d just need to take care of his other responsibilities (including spending time with his girlfriend) first!

There's nothing wrong with playing video games as she said, 1h a day or on the weekends. Just make sure you still have a balanced life and take care of everything else in it! Those poor pets... And that poor GF!

WHY do they always write these horror stories and it seems like they're aware of how horrifying it is because of how they carefully and with detail explain the whole thing and how bad it is. And the next thing they always say is "He's the best man I've ever met." Lady, he's what now? The only thing I thought of is how painful it would be to leave the pets there when I split. Especially the macaw because it seems like it would suffer in these conditions alone with that man. But you can't really take someone's pets. He would say you stole them no matter how neglectful he is.

i have no beef with marathon gamers. i play video games 10+ hours a day if i have a day off. i also cook, clean, read, and play with my dog 2 hours a day, regardless of if i’m off.

these scrotes absolutely have time to make themselves useful, they choose not to.

As a gamer, I absolutely encourage women to never date gamers who cannot balance their life in a healthy way.

I used to ignore a lot of responsibility by gaming away my life. The gaming itself isn't the issue but the lack of accountability, self-discipline and prioritizing is. You also can't change them or stop them from gaming, it'll just piss them off and they will probably say things like "you don't understand". Or the classic "yeah sure I'll do [blah] just after I'm done one more" and never actually do it. Pretty sure "Just one more." is the addicted gamer's mantra.

Now I still game but I stick to ones who have endings or sessions that only last so long so I can prioritize my time. I can go days, weeks or months without gaming and it's not a problem. I have plenty of other hobbies and interests that aren't gaming related.

Not taking care of your own pets is just inexcusable for any reason though. That's an immediate dealbreaker.

I worked playing video games and there certainly were some awful sexist etc. Men. This is addiction level. She shouldn’t have to deal with that. How awful that he’s even neglecting his animals. There’s so many people rehabbing abused and neglected birds in /r/parrots/ that this makes me especially angry.

I wonder if her inevitably ending it will even change his behaviour..

I’m a big gamer myself, so maybe my bias is showing, but it’s not inherently bad that someone is a gamer. My last boyfriend was mature and cleaned like I’ve never seen a man clean before (he regularly dusted and waxed his floors?) and took me out to dinner 3 times a week, and out of town dates on the weekends. He was porn sick, like so many men today, so that wasn’t going to work, but he was more attentive to me than a lot of non-gamer/ party guys.
