Just for it to be used as a point of comedy for someone on a dating app. At the very least, I think this student should be suspended or expelled. Need more information, such as what medical school and the students name.

This is a big deal. Many medical schools receive their anatomy specimens from a human gift registry. The anatomy cadavers are supposed to be viewed as the students' first patients. The students are to treat this first patient with respect and dignity while learning from the last gift the person was able to pass on to future generations, the destruction of their physical body so future physicians may learn how to help prevent or lessen suffering.

I can't stress what a big deal this is. This person needs to be identified and expelled.

It's a fairly disrespectful gesture, and it is clearly a form of gendered disrespect as well. Arguably some kind of power play as well, since the testicles are the literal and symbolic embodiment of masculinity. Imagine if a male doctor took out a female cadaver's breasts or ovaries, and then posed with them as if they were toys for a dating picture. Women would find that very disrespectful of that woman's corpse, and unnecessarily distasteful or invasive towards the female body.

I'm not sure if this picture is also intendent to be a subtle threat, as if to say that her special talent is emasculating men. I'm not sure what is the feeling she's trying to invoke here for men either, but if a man tried to post a picture that had the explicit intent of making women feel uncomfortable or unsafe, it would be a major red flag. If a male doctor made a joke about raping dead corpses, with the explicit intent of making women feel uncomfortable and then posted that on an online dating site, they would just be banned from that online dating platform entirely.

I'm not a med student but I did take an anatomy and physiology class that took a field trip to a cadavar ward where the bodies were being dissected by med students.

They made it very clear going in that any disrespect of the bodies and we would fail the course. Not even jokes or comments on a body's appearance.

If there’s no info on what school she’s at The federation of State Medical Board would be the best place to send this. this is highly illegal and so fucking violating.

As a former med student, I know that most institutions have VERY strict policies prohibiting photography like this even if it’s an animal.

So… this is a pretty big issue. Most places are struggling to get people to donate organs on death. This for sure won’t help that case.

OP you snapped a pic of their hinge profile, send it to whatever local medical board you have. They’ll find out who it was.

On top of that, send it to your local rag newspaper and they’ll make sure the board does the rest.

An action as insensitive like this should ensure that student never sees another day of education in this field.

Come to think of it, not only that student but the one who took the photo and whoever was supervising need to be made examples of.

Are these human testicles or animal testicles? Both look extremely alike. The main only difference is size based on the size of the animal, and I don't see a cadaver, not an animal, in the photo. Rules are very different with animals compared to humans.

In undergraduate when we looked at a cadaver, we were told we needed to respect the body that we were examining before even being in the same room with it.

That being said...I am personally totally cool with someone doing this to me when I die. First things first, take all of my useful organs and give them to those in need. Medical student here: this is insane but definitely not a cadaver. They are embalmed with formaldehyde and not bloody like in this image. There is also what looks to be a suture case on the stand next to her which would not be needed for a dissection. My guess is that this is someone in veterinary medicine.

Don't know what med school this lady went to, but the one I attend (Philippines) has a rule of NO POSTING ONLINE pictures of the cadavers, male student or female student, male cadaver or female cadaver, doesn't matter. Any pictures taken in the cadaver room is only used for personal review and nothing else.

Granted it's the Philippines which is a religious catholic nation, belief in the sanctity of the human body even in death and all.

Hmmm, those seem kind of small (sorry, Mr. Deadman). One of the most obvious things that no one could ignore when we came in to be introduced to our cadaver in Human Anatomy was that the male specimen we had was possessed of an ENORMOUS scrotum. I mean, a horse would have been jealous. Finally one of the women broke down and had to ask the teacher what the heck was going on...since no human ever has a balloon of that size between their legs. Evidently his small blood vessels in the groin area burst while they were putting the embalming fluids in, leaving his scrotum an enormous balloon (after all they used to make balloons out of bladders and scrotums and things like that back in ancient times). It was a bit of a shock, I had to say, but I guess it probably is not that uncommon. Over the next few days it finally drained out, but that was an interesting experience.

This may possibly be a veterinary operating room, with the drapes, the gloves (sterile, not nitrile disposable, etc.), and the blue gowns. Medical students do not normally wear full OR attire when in the cadaver lab - at most a surgical mask to cover the smell of formaldehyde, but otherwise at my institution we wore scrubs and/or a lab coat with close toed shoes, and used disposable gloves when handling cadavers and organs.

The impact of this kind of disrespectful behaviour should not be minimised. People provide their bodies to science for the benefit of our community, with an expectation that their bodies will be dealt with respectfully.

This kind of flipant behaviour displays a disregard for the intention and consent of the person who donated their body, as well as a callous disregard for their family and loved ones. In addition, it proves a level of sexist behaviour incompatible with professional conduct.

All of these issues are related important character traits necessary in health care workers. This person may well have committed a criminal offense, related to the misuse of a corpse or body parts.

This scum has no right to the privilege of being a health care worker, and for the benefit of the community, and the trust of individuals in the professionalism of our workforce, they MUST be found and sacked, and their record notated that they are never to be registered as a healthcare worker in any country.

I am a medical professional (CRNA). I dissected human cadavers in undergrad. It is always encouraged to respect the cadavers. And we do. When we do this we are about 19 to 21 years old. Which this young girl probably is as well. A time in ALL of our lives where we all make mistakes and poor decisions. It’s to be expected. It’s what helps us grow into mature adults. I think everyone needs to take a step back before attacking this girl anymore. This picture being exploited by going viral all over the internet has probably been punishment enough. I think this picture and situation has received enough attention and criticism to last her an entire lifetime of guilt. Let’s back up and let it go.

I don’t agree regarding reporting it, at least not without your best effort to reach out to the individual who posted the photo if you can. I only say this because there may be genuine remorse on their part. We all have lapses in judgement. It’s bad that this person wants to be a doctor. Makes it worse and more impactful. Also, someone took this photo… could have told her to smile and whatnot… hold them up. She could have been pressured. Clearly she wasn’t the only one who thought “this is a good idea” in the moment. There was another dumb person taking the photo. She could be a good person. She could be a lousy person. I say find out if possible before reporting. That’s all I’m saying. I think showing grace can go a long way. We’ve all done something insanely stupid at some point and been shown grace. She may not have intentionally tried to cause any harm and wasn’t thinking of the negative impact this photo could have if it ever got back to the family of the donor. But also, it probably never would… unless you report it. You could ruin her life for a photo that most people will never see. And cause pain to the family. Yes it’s awful, but the person is passed on… this young woman has her whole life ahead of her. She wants to be a doctor, I hope, to help others and, like many young human beings, is doing something incredibly stupid. Consider giving her a second chance. Find out if you can let her know to take the image down. Tell her if she doesn’t you’ll have to report it. Try to understand. That’s all I’m saying.
