If you go up to a woman in a nightclub as a 6 foot, muscular male model with perfect eyes and hair and say “I got your nose” like you are her uncle, yeah you’ll get a laugh most likely while the 5’1 bespectacled overweight guy will get a weird glare or be literally laughed at.

But in a social group setting where people are together for an extended period of time like some small house party or something or at work with coworkers, someone who is genuinely nice and upbeat and cracks jokes will still be found funny by women. The women still won’t sleep with him if he’s ugly though but will think he’s funny.

Yeah. After 6 months in the sub I’ve realized PPD gets people nowhere. The same obvious content is repeated almost hourly.

People come here to prove a point or to demonize the opposite gender.

The same as OP applies to women: if you’re fat you won’t be seen as smart or funny as the attractive yoga teacher who couldn’t pass 7th grade math if she tried. Her being “horny” would be perceived as you being “desperate”. Humans are shallow, base creatures.

That said, unless you're a shallow man looking only for shallow women, having nothing besides looks will work against you if you want to get past the second or third date. People want someone they can click with.

If I had to nit-pick, then I’d say that intelligence is as much about genetics as your physical looks. That is to say you can maximize, optimize, and refine it to some extent, but for the most part either you are smart or you’re not, you are tall or you’re not, you are handsome or you’re not. And raising three kids also taught me that your personality likely also have a large genetic component, even if how you express it socially can differ based on your environment.

But ultimately it still comes down to distinguishing between things that you can control and things you can’t. And if you care about your SMV, you can try to maximize the former, and there’s frankly no point in lamenting the latter. I agree that looks-maxxing and gym-maxxing are ideal starting points, but not because it is the end all be all, rather it is simply the easiest and the most bang for your buck. Money and status, ie “success”, can take time and a fair bit of luck to build to the point where it would make a substantial difference in your dating results. Social skills, ie “game”, IMO still hinges on you at least meeting a woman’s minimal attractiveness threshold, and as such will have the biggest variance in results based on your starting point and your target.

Most women will say they like both someone's looks and personality. And that's true in practice - generally, a combination of both is what helps in dating. It's not like only one kind of thing can matter.
