My point, since I have to spell it out, is that the men who do care about all of these things are de facto unattractive and unmasculine to me, and I'm not sure why I'd care or want the approval of - much less partner with - men who think like this. You guys are so logical and rational - why is it logical to want sex and relationships with men who think me having sex makes me unattractive?

i was gonna comment about how the wikipedia page for promiscuity had a bunch of stats about negative mental health effects, higher likelihood of poverty and more likely to be an unwed mother in a poor country where you're basically outcast for that shit, then make a comment how liberals can't even control social scientists which like, you'd think, right?

my boss is mad young so we have convos about super personal stuff sometimes, and i thought something she told me was kinda interesting.

she has a child that’s in my class, that she had with her partner who she’s been with since high school. only guy she’s ever been with, but they’re not married. they’re maybe 10 years in atp. part of why she feels she hesitates to get married (and he does as well) is because they’ve literally never known anyone but each other. there’s a sense of FOMO and they’ve both found other people attractive before, so there’s that tiny thought in the back of their minds of “what if?”

me personally, i don’t feel that (yet?). i’ve only been with 2 people (my bf and my ex) and i’ve never been on dating apps, never spent time single as an adult. the longest i spent alone and unattached to a man was about 2 weeks. but i don’t feel that FOMO, that desire to explore. part of that is because i grew up so religious, i have deep sex negative programming against acquiring a high body count, i always just wanted to be a wife and have a family. and also i simply feel i have everything i want at home.

my boyfriend on the other hand has a “high” body count (over 10). so ig he got to explore, idk.

I take sex and my romantic relationships pretty seriously. I don't sleep with a woman unless we're in a relationship and have developed real feelings towards one another. I've had plenty of offers, but I've only been with two women and kissed three, all three of those were in relationships. And I'm near 30 years old now. Honestly, without the emotion and romantic aspect, I just don't have the WANT for sex without love in me. That being said, in a relationship, it's every day. Sometimes, multiple times a day. I love making the person I love feel good. There were times I'd be "giving" sexually without looking to "get" for myself.

I met a girl a little while ago. I started to really like her. We talked all the time, and I could feel myself starting to fall, and obviously, she felt the same way.

Then I found out that she had been in multiple threesomes, had sex with at least 30 people that I'd known about, and very likely more than that. A few friends even let me know they'd slept with her because they could see we were getting close and wanted to be open about it.

I instantly lost any desire to be with her romantically. We could be friends, but the thought of having sex with her became something I had no desire to do.

For me, given that I take sex to seriously and want to reserve it for people I have a special connection with, the thought of just giving it out so freely, as though it's nothing, is very off putting. It means a lot to me, I'd like it to mean a lot to the person I'm having it with also.

But outside of relationships, I don't much care what other people do. If you want to sleep with 10,000 people, go for it. We can still be friends, but that will make you a total non option for me. Which is fine. You shouldn't make decide what who you sleep with based on whether I would be in a relationship with you or not anyway. The same goes for any decision in your life.

It doesn't make you a BAD person, but it does make you someone I wouldn't want to be in love with, and that's okay. You shouldn't live in such a way as to please me.

But given that's how I feel about hooking up, I'd most likely pick the girl who seems to feel the way I do and sex, love and relationships.

Couple that with this study around sexual behaviour that would suggest that the true median was around 6 sexual partners. It doesn't REALLY cut down the numbers that much.

Well, between 4-8, anyway.

You could even go as far as to say that this was done in 2002, and note how people are repoting having less sex than previous generations these days. I'd hazard a guess that MOST women aren't getting ran through by chad after chad anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to find out most people come out to something like, a median of 4 partners lifetime, or something now. And everyone's perceptions are being skewed by a small number of really slutty people and internet loudmouths.

I'd suspect most women are like most men. A low number of partners, and ultimately just want to be having sex with someone who they love.

If you're a person that sleeps with everything with a pulse and wants a partner that has less than 3 people, though, you're insane and I have to roll my eyes at that. It's hypocritical and ridiculous.
