Anyone should try improving their appearance, but if you have unattractive facial structure or you’re very short without a handsome face, you’re probably going to have a hard time.

On average, men also get less positive reinforcement on their looks than women, so lots of men who aren’t hot end up doubting their value. Even guys who have success with women aren’t all getting complimented on their looks much. This is partly why some men are less sympathetic about catcalling or lewd messages. (inb4: “Men should compliment each other!” This can help a bit, but if you’re a straight man and all the compliments you get on your appearance are from straight men, that’s not a good sign)

I also think most men and women ideally want a partner who is at least kind of cute, and judge their success based on their outcomes with people at that level or above.

I was always under the impression that looksmaxing was just a piece of the puzzle, not itself the solution.

That would imply the guy is already naturally outgoing, meeting and enjoying people all the time, has charm/confidence and social skills etc. but is just ugly.

The thing is that ugly dudes like that still get to lay the pipe to some degree. Looksmaxing might increase quality and frequency.

Most people go into looksmaxing because it's something that's the easiest to change - you can do it entirely yourself without external reliance. It gives a feeling of control.

Looks maxing can definitely help however there are multiple important parts of attraction that cannot be changed in adulthood. some examples of things that cannot be changed without surgery that heavily effect attractiveness are:

Eye structure: Eyes that are overly round, outside tilted downward, or show a lot of the upper eyelid are generally considered unattractive. The only way to change this is eyelid surgery or even more expensive bone restructuring surgeries.

Jaw Structure: Recessed and misaligned jaws are considered unattractive. Orthodontic treatment as a youth can help fix this however as an adult jaw growth is finished and jaw surgery will be required which is very expensive.

Facial Third Proportions: the face can be divided into thirds that have defined start and end points. If these thirds are imbalanced the face appears unattractive

Male Pattern Baldness: Minoxidil and Finasteride can be effective ways to slow male pattern baldness however it usually still eventually progresses and cannot be reversed

Nose: Large and misaligned noses are considered unattractive, this can only be changed with surgery

General Asymmetry: asymmetrical faces are generally considered unattractive and this is usually caused by bone structure which cannot be changed in adulthood

Height: obviously cannot be changed without leg lengthening surgery which is expensive and a huge hassle

This pretty much just leaves hair styling, facial fat, skincare, and styling as the only things you can change with looks maxing. These can really help however if the things i previously mentioned are really lacking it will be difficult to improve without surgery

I don't think there is one that would make it completely pointless, even if you are a butt ugly one on a scale from 1 to 10,, which primarily would be some kind of extreme deformity, you can at least try to get up to a three or a four

Being very short (under 1.65m ) or having really really (I mean really) ugly face. Also having a micropenis.

As you can understand that's a very small percentage of the population, which means very few people are true incels.

It also depends on what your goal is. If it's to have an acceptable sex life, the above is the cutoff. If you want to be able to maintain a woman's attraction long term, I would say you need to be in the top 50% and then looksmax, status max, game max etc.

There’s nothing that can make looks maxing pointless. It’s literally the point, even if you are going from a dead 1. ( which that catagory is for the incredibly deformed) looks maxing to a 4 is much better then staying a 1.

Height, facial structure and lack of hair/balding are the ceilings for improvement.

I don’t agree that it makes looksmaxxing pointless, you can still improve with those issues but it puts a cap on how far you can go. For many women short and or bald is just a straight no.

You may get to a 7/10 at best but you will have to hook up with a slightly fat 6/10 since women Fuck up

I guess the major limitation is what they are looking for in a woman in exchange for their efforts to looksmax.

He might still not like the level of women he could get to date him, or he might be satisfied enough with the level of women in a vacuum, but dissatisfied with the level of lust she has for him (ex: enough to sincerely want vanilla sex one or twice a week, not enough to want frequent, adventurous sex), in which case he wouldn’t find investing in his looks and the relationship to be worth it.

Being short.

You can do all you said above and you’ll still just be short. I dress impeccably in clothes that fit well or are tailored, my hair has always been thick and I get it cut regularly, skin has always been good (I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve had acne), but I have a skincare routine and I even get facials once every 3 months for upkeep. Nails is just normal hygiene. I’ve been doing this for 13 or so years. Physique wise I’ve been going to the gym for years, but not finding success in getting shredded. I’m definitely not fat, I have a little definition but nothing to write home about. I’m going to start taking roids when I can find a way to get them so I can get shredded that way. Either way, I’m 5’6, and there’s no style, haircuts, skincare, or any other thing that will cancel it out.

All I’ve gotten is relationships, any guy can get that, but causal sex is impossible because women just don’t want to hook up with short men. I guarantee if I was even average height, I’d be getting hookups and I’d just be a fuckboy.

Jaw is the hard limit.

For men:

You can find bald sex symbols, you can find short sex symbols, you can find se symbols with big noses, you can find them with weird eyes.

You will very very rarely ever find a male sex symbol that doesn’t have a good, defined jawline and this is entirely unchangeable without brutal, gruesome and very expensive surgery with a 1 year recovery time.

The only exception I’ve ever seen to this is Adam Driver and even he is very polarizing and likely just enjoying a band wagon effect from geek girls.

31F, (mostly) heterosexual, married. For me, it's the voice. I love a good voice, and married a man whose voice makes me swoon. I can't be attracted to guys with voices I dislike. I also like a man to have some facial hair/body hair. Hairless guys don't do it for me.

Height and Face.

If you workout and take care of yourself then you've unlocked all your potential lookswise. You can't workout your facial bones or your leg bones to make them bigger. Surgeries are either really expensive or in case of leg lengthening can even put you in a wheelchair if it goes wrong

what physical characteristics make looksmaxing a poor cost:benefit proposition.

A 5'3" dude with a shitty physical frame and an ugly face can looksmax, sure. But if he has to pay so much (gym time, surgery, wardrobe, career, personality development) just so he can occasionally score a dull fatty who has uninspired sex with him, he may quite rationally conclude that he's better off just pursuing his life with other, more productive endeavors.
