Opportunistic predators use power dynamics to influence weaker (younger usually correlates) people in order to get what they want. Unfortunately power inequality is present everywhere, at all times. Money and sex are at the top. Men hold more positions of power, hold more social power generally, and are generally stronger physically. So more of these predators are men. Although the power gap is shrinking, women predators usually go about it differently. More go unreported and skate that line of plausible deniability. Speaking as a man who dealt with one at an early age. These people usually don't feel equal to the other adults to surround them. So they pick on the weak to boost themselves.

We don't really have evidence that men are more predatory towards children than women are.

When it comes to male schoolteachers, we do indeed have evidence that males are bigger pedos, in fact disproportionate to their installation, and I have no trouble admitting that. BUT it's still closer than what the criminal justice system outlines: it's more likely 40%ish female teachers, and 60%ish male teachers; again, the criminal justice statistics that pretend it's like 90% men are a joke

But we have evidence that 90% of boys in juvie report a female abuser, when less than 50% of the guards are female.

So either profile both, or profile neither

If you’re seeing this kind of stuff everywhere, that’s probably because of your social media algorithm showing you that kind of content all the time. Pedophilia is sick and wrong, but it’s very rare and definitely not an issue with men as a whole. 99.99% of men are only attracted to and date adult women.

My recommendation, take a break from social media, and stop watching content about sexual predators, for your own mental health sake.

The most infamous cases of abuse involve people in power and fame, who are more likely to be men.

"Regular" chold abuse happens to boys and girls frequently, but every time a big name predator comes up it's almost always a man preying upon women or girls.

I can't think of a single major scandal that ever boiled down to "Female CEO harassed male workers." or "Female politician assaults aides." or something like that.

Are we talking about women under 18 or above 18? I have to ask because when similar topics have come up, the women making this argument were talking about women in their early to mid 20's like they were children or something.

If you're actually referring to women under 18, pretty sure the vast majority of men or society in general doesn't support that. Outliers exist, but they're just that, exceptions to the rule, not the norm.

Only a small minority of would be defending actual pedophilia (a significant % of pedophiles are women btw) and that gets jumped and condemned immediately in any mainstream space.

The problem is "young girls" often means young adult women who are in many cases well into their 20s or even early 30s.

Due to this incongruence between the innate sexual preferential profile of men, and culturally provided relationship type, it's likely that there's cultural dissonance at play, where everyone carries the two contradictory facts at once (men prefer youth and beauty, while at the same time it is prohibited to value youth). The main psychological mechanism that reconciles cognitive dissonance is rationalization, which likely accounts for the 'excuse making' you cite.

If you're talking about minors, then I am happy to say only a very small minority of men are predatory. If you talking about men who are interested in young women as a preference, then that is not predatory. Women have preferences for older men, taller men, rich men, so why can't men have a preference for younger women? They're hotter, have less baggage too and have less baggage.

I think it’s born from desperation, you touch on it yourself “why not be with adults or don’t date at all??” It’s very difficult to not be able to date at all, specially when it’s so integral to you, so the harder it gets the more desperate men will get resulting in the ones who are morally compromised being driven to something they may not otherwise do.

Maybe when we can re-balance society such that women commit 9/10 crimes to make up 95% of the prison population, when they make up 80% of the homeless, live 5 year shorter lives, make up 99% of combat victims, encompass 90% of job deaths, make up just 40% of college graduates, and make up just 20% of social sciences/psychology majors that generate all the statistics about society…..etc, etc….

…We can figure this one out. Sorry girls, it seems like it’s part of the job description for now!
