It is often said on PurplePillDebate that because a woman can easily find a man who is willing to date her or have sex with her, that this means that women have a lot more options than men. I think that this view is misleading and comes from a certain perspective and that perspective is the incorrect one to take. As usual if you want to personally attack me, write a MGTOW rant or anything along those lines, please place it under the AutoModerator.

1. The Gap

This will be taken out of the way first. It is obvious that women receive a lot more attention from males than the inverse. Women can easily be swarmed with hundreds of messages on an online dating platform, men will swipe more women on Tinder, and it is easy for a woman to find a relationship or find someone to have sex with them.

2. Why the Gap Does Not Matter

For women who want to date(or are looking for fun) the fact that there is hundreds of men reasonably in their proximity that want to date them is irrelevant because these men are seen as non-options, even though they could technically be chosen. Suppose you had a decently attractive straight man who was having a difficult time dating, and let us suppose that there were hundreds of homosexual men willing to have sex with him, but very few women were and this was an issue for him. Does the fact that there are hundreds of men willing to have sex with him fix this problem? I would not think so, because that is what he does not want.

In the same sense a woman who wants to find a good partner, the fact there is 300 short, ugly, weird, incompatible men who would be willing to have sex with her for free or go into a relationship with her does not really help. These men are not considerations in this context, in the similar sense that homosexuals are not into consideration for straight men.

3. Too Picky

Are women being picky? I would turn to the homosexuality analogy discussed earlier and apply it to this as well. Again, I think it would be ridiculous to say men are being picky unless they are willing to date other men.

3.1 Counterargument: Women want to date other men, so the homosexuality argument does not work

The point of this analogy is to illustrate how irrelevant those men would be in the woman’s search for a partner. You can substitute out homosexuality with some alien race of women that kill men when they procreate, women who have STDs, mentally unwell women that accuse every man they date of sexual assault or unattractive women. It is not too unreasonable to assume most men would not consider those women in the above situation.

3.2 Counterargument: Food analogies

Usually when I do bring this up another counter-argument I do see has to do with analogies regarding food, in which they compare this to a rich man lamenting over his dissatisfaction that he can not find caviar or truffles, and he has to settle for mere peasant food. The issue with this analogy is that it does not really seem that ridiculous. If he was hosting a fancy party, and people expected to see caviar or truffles at that party, this is a legitimate concern. If he was starving to death or dying of thirst, and he refused to only eat the finest au gratin prepared by world class chefs or drink spring water imported directly Tibet would seem ridiculous. In the case of the women looking for a partner, it is more like the first concern rather than the second because it does not really look like some life or death situation.

3.3 Counterargument: Women misunderstand their value

Even if the woman does misunderstand her value, and that she would not be able to get the man that she wanted to, it does not follow that she should select from that dating pool anyway. A life of Netflix, cats and wine could be (and in most cases probably would be) better than having a relationship with someone you are not attracted to or compatible with.

4. Conclusion

It seems strange to make comparisons between men and women when it comes to who and how they want to date. Just because men are willing to date or have sex with the first person who comes to them, does not really mean that women should also be doing this as well, and if they refrain from it they are being too “picky”. It also ignores the consideration that having no partner can be better than having a partner, which is what a lot of these men are losing to.
