This is an interesting situation.

In normal circumstances, you try not to strike first. Even if severely aggravated like the guy most likely was, he should've made more of an effort to get away from her and de-escalate the situation. Granted, it's only a video fragment and we don't have a whole picture of the situation. But always best to distance yourself from stupid, insane and/or entitled, regardless the situation.

But in this case, he goes on the BART, wears a mask to protect himself and also to help others be safe, likely keeps his distance and she comes along. She's asking for money and then think that social distancing rules shouldn't be observed. She's likely foaming at the mouth and is more than likely projecting spittle as she yells at the guy, which risks him getting infected as a result. On that basis alone, I honestly think there is a case for self-defense.

The woman should rethink the whole interaction, learn from it and be happy she didn't get slapped into the next subway carriage.

Maybe deserved, but this guy is dumber than the girl. He just assaulted her for a verbal dispute. If she hit him first, then he could claim self defense, but this guy is just going to jail over nothing

Yeah that’s a straight up battery right there, no self defense argument as far as I can see. You can’t just punch a person even if they are entitled and being a bitch. This guy would probably do 10-20 days in county jail and a year or two probation I’d he’s brought to justice. And he deserves it. Now, if she hits first it’s a different matter but she didn’t.

1) She never hit him first, so he's in the wrong

2) It doesn't matter cause this shit smells fake. Doesn't look like it connected, no sound of contact, and a hit like that is no where near strong enough to knock someone out.
