What always cracked me up is that it's not like men never sit down on a toilet, and we still have to lift the seat to piss. I've never even though of complaining about taking 2 seconds to lift the seat every time I gotta pee. And I've never once fallen into a toilet, even with urgent, violent diarrhea. This creates a valid point. In order to create equality and push for women's rights then these sort of actions need to be gender neutral. If a person wants to hold a door open or leave a toilet seat up or down for someone else then they need to do out of kindness and without gender in mind.

Edit: The neutral option would be to leave it down with the toilet cover down as well forcing any gender to take action before using the toilet.

I have reservations about this. The seat and the lid should be put down before you flush so you don't spray vaporized piss and shit all over your bathroom, which I imagine is why the whole "don't leave the seat up" thing comes from. Somewhere along the line it became a "Men vs. Women" thing.

That being said, that only really applies for a non-public setting, since public restrooms rarely have toilet lids.

As a man I don't agree with this post.

This is not an issue of man vs woman. It's an issue of "Are you willing to pay a little effort to make the next person comfortable?".

Because if you are willing to pay that effort, then it's just objectively logical to put the toilet seat down. In more than half of the cases the next person will need it to be down, as there are also men who need to take a shit.

And I would argue you should pay that effort. Because when you're finished peeing, no matter how solid your technique, there will be a little bit of pee splash on the seat. It's only fair that you touch that yourself, as it feels more dirty to touch another person's piss.

I just asked my fiancé why she doesn't pick up the toilet seat after she's pees...she reminded me that it's to stop her from falling into the toilet in the middle of the night. I said well that's only because you're so used to men serving your needs that you don't even check to make sure it's down. If you look at it mathematically, it makes sense to put the seat down because, probabilistically, the next person will need it down.

Men: Seat up for #1, seat down for #2 Women: Seat down for #1 and #2

Of all possible scenarios, 3/4ths require the "seat down" position, and only 1/4th require the seat up. If you wanted to, you could probably scale this by the number of men/women sharing the bathroom to see what the frequency distribution of "needs seat up" vs "needs seat down" is, and then dictate policy based on that.

I personally like the "seat and lid down" route. Put it all down before the flush to prevent whatever is in the bowl from misting into the air in the bathroom. Also, it looks cleaner AND is "more equal" :)

A local coffee shope owned by a man-hating woman made a requirement that men sit down to pee because she was tired of cleaning pee off the seat. She even went as far as putting a seat cover on the lid that would fall if not supported.

I always drop the lid after I'm done to make sure the women have to do lift the lid to use the toilet. This means I can't get shouted at for not putting the seat down but I win a small victory because I made them flip the lid.

Also, I think it prevents the splash of the flush from spreading germs outside the bowl.

To begin with, right off the bat, women have only half the toilet seat positioning responsibilities that men have. They have one requirement: make sure the seat is down before they sit. That's all.

Men have two: 1) make sure the seat us up before we piss and 2) make sure the seat is down before we sit.

We already have twice as much to think about. We don't need to assume the women's (much smaller) share of responsibility.
