Frugal Frank says he's been "focused, ambitious, and driven" for 20 years. We'll say he started working at 16, and he's now 36. Without even counting inflation, he could quit his job today and still have $117,000 per year if he lived to be 100.

Also, if he's smart with his investments, he could easily make it to $10M in the next couple years without working. He's just to much of a workhorse to see it.

This is why I avoid cheap men like the plague. Nothing is more important to them than the almighty dollar. They’ll literally freeze their family to save $10 on heating during the winter, despite the fact that they make well over 6 figures.

Also how sad is it that in the capitalist hellscape of the US, he doesn’t even think $7.5 million is enough to retire on. So many people who try FIRE are aiming for $1 million or just above that.

There is a private subreddit called After the fire, and it’s just men in their early 40s who divorced the wife that scraped and sacrificed for their FIRE dreams, and are pretending that paying sugar babies for a pretend relationship is a dream life, while discovering the hard way that every good thing in their life was being provided by their former wife, and that their grown up kids are strangers.

As someone who is part of the retire early community, on top of this guy being a complete pos, HES MISSING THE POINT COMPLETELY.

The entire purpose of the work hard as f, save, and FIRE is so that you are not burdened with the need to work in order to live your life. This guy has had assets up the wazoo this entire time and could have backed off to support his family… but he chose not to because then he might be a slightly smaller millionaire?

If you read between the lines a bit, this guy is in love with work and money. His wife and family are afterthoughts. He also sounds a complete fucking control freak - I would love to hear what isn’t working out with the nanny he hired and if it’s even a reasonable expectation to have.

Regardless, he isn’t going to be happy if/when he retired; he’ll just find some new obsession that will make his poor wife’s life a waking nightmare. I hope very much that she recovers and takes her half of that money. What I would pay to see this guys reaction getting served with divorce paperwork that includes child support, alimony, and half of the assets.
