I think men could be made happy by this fantasy scenario. They already love simulated experiences like gaming and porn and form deep emotional attachments to sports teams and mechanical objects. They do not appear to require the exact same kind of emotional connections many women do so it is not a stretch to imagine this being feasible.

At that point of realism and accessibility I don't think you it would even specifically be marketed as a "sexbot" anymore.

It would officially be a companion robot that can do chores around the house, serve therapeutic functions, give fashion/life advice, pretty much anything a person could want. Being able to have sex would be just another feature, like an app on a phone. Will that particular "feature" be used? Yes. Will normal people talk about it openly and want to hear about your sexual exploits with your companion robot? Probably not.

If a sexbot looks like a real person and behaves like a real person, then society has no chance to know that it is not a real person.

In addition, that dating a woman is considered a success for men, can be changed. In Afghanistan, for example, a successful man will gain recognition rather by demonstration of the Bacha bazi - Dancing Boys, because women are locked up at home and men do not take them into society.

If those robots are with self-learning AI, there will be limited editions... men can look up to men with best bots. In the past, prestige was won by the fastest car, the prettiest woman, the best horse, the strongest slaves ... so why not the most advanced sexbot.

I think it wouldn't change much. At least not for a while. An AI of that calibur would be super expensive. The average person couldn't afford it and I still think there would be men who would want a human relationship. If the sexbot had no choice but to do whatever you said then that takes away big part of what makes a relationship a relationship.

And then theres the whole ethical thing of if this robot is intelligent then is it right to make it a sex bot? At what point does that get into SA territory?

I live with a sex doll. I know it’s not a sex bot but I can share some experiences.

So I have lived my entire life alone, very little human touch etc. I lacked the social skills to be successful with women when I was younger and when older I lacked the career/income to support a family. Now I’m doing fine financially but I’m soon 40 and have practically no experience with women. I had a feminist if upbringing with lots of male sexuality bashing and have spent a lot of time around women who like to keep men subservient.

The doll cannot harm me. I have no trust in women and in many ways I hate them. At the same time I long for a female presence, touch and sex. The sex doll provides a form of companionship that is safe and does not break me down.

I see a therapist and I get matches on tinder etc, but I don’t really know what to do with them. The bitterness is too much and I have the doll right next to me here in my bed, ready for a hug.

If she could talk it would be amazing. I usually say good morning, good night, I love you etc. I know she has no brain but being able to say those things out loud feels therapeutic.

As more and more men will be priced out of the marriage market, fatherhood and sex, I think this will be the future for us. We won’t be that many as it costs money, so the target audience is men with cash to spend but no sex appeal or family building wealth. Maybe 5-10% of men?

I would not say I’m happy but it’s a great band aid.

I think it's straight up a turning point for humanity. Either they get banned within 5-10 years or men basically just say fuck it and straight up leave society(women) behind and build a new one with their robot waifus.

I guess a lot of people think this would be a bad thing and society would collapse...but I think it would actually be the opposite...men would feel way more fulfilled sexually and emotionally so they would actually have more motivation to make the world a better place just because that's what's left to do. I assume there will be some sort of agreement between men to make the bots not too addictive that they ruin society.

What I have no clue about is what's going to happen to women. I don't know if women will see much of a point to the robot because the bot will just be something they pay for, not something that gives them resources. So it's not going to replace the role men play in a woman's life.

Reproduction is obviously a big question, but I think by that point we will be capable of reproducing without women so women really won't have any bargaining chips.

Once the robots reach a minimum level of realism (i.e. just enough to produce a satisfactory sexual/companionship experience for men) it could drastically disrupt the dating market place, and possibly restore some of the balance to men.

I'd wager this is because men and women seek some very different things in a partner, and what women seek is much much harder to satisfy with a robot.

Men, in general, have a need for intimate companionship and sexual pleasure in the privacy of their own home, in private. They don't feel the need to bring their companion out into society to gain status, show off at parties, please their parents, make their friends jealous, etc. (Sure, every once in a while a man wants to show off a trophy wife, but this is very very different, and quite rare). This limits the requirements of the robot to be able to talk, emote and be sexual, in private.

Women, I will dare to say (and correct me if I'm wrong), need much more from a robot partner; things that I think simply cannot be provided by one. Sure, a 9-inch vibrating phallus with a bunny rabbit clit massager is nice, but it's far from enough in terms of what a woman wants in an intimate partner.

A woman's intimate partner needs to have status in society. Be successful, and impressive in public. He needs to be above-average. She needs to feel proud when announcing him as her boyfriend/fiancé/husband. He must make her friends jealous. He must have a prestigious role in society. And of course, the robot would need to provide other things like companionship while attending public venues, assistance with the daily chores, etc and well, sex robots cannot provide any of this. They have 0 status and cannot provide public security and companionship and household work. All of this is far far FAR and beyond what even the most advanced general intelligence and sophisticated robot can provide.

It's for these reasons that I'm guessing that these robots, should they reach that minimum level of realism, could restore balance to the market by being able to satisfy many men's wants for relationships, but not so much women's.

The situation extends further. The men who choose robots wouldn't just be limited to one robot. Companies could begin offering subscription models, where you get a different robot every month. More than one at a time. The robot could have "mods" or interchangeable parts. It could have multiple personalities, it can have its proportions and appearance constantly modified to the mans needs. There is tremendous potential here that is hard to even imagine at this point. The robots would provide their functionality without the need for the man to take time out of his schedule to do things to "appease" the robot i.e. attend various functions, do chores, do this project, buy this furniture, etc. It could potentially be a massive game-changer.
