In a situation where a man is proven to be the father to a child, you believe that woman should have the choice on whether to have the child or not, while simultaneously giving the father the choice in whether take part in the raising of the child?

I agree completely! I just have one q tho: studies show that fatherhood is just as important as motherhood in terms of a child being raised into a healthy adult, for all genders. So, a man deserves reproductive rights, but if those rights involve him being allowed to walk away, it's detrimental to the child. Essentially, what exactly could a man do?

The problem is the system is too justice related than outcome related. We’ve based it on saying that men should have repercussions for impregnating a woman when there is a clear risk to the woman (an abortion is still a risk to women emotionally and sometimes medically). Both parties can have enjoyed consensual sex with contraception and something just hasn’t worked.

However, there is some evidence to suggest that men who don’t want to pay, simply won’t. If there is no “punishment” enforced, it no longer becomes a preventative.

To this end, we should be supporting all single parents with

Robust support during and after pregnancy
parentcraft classes
state payments based on income
a choice for unmarried male partners to sign the birth certificate- where they choose not to, they forfeit legal right to access to their child. This could be after a paternity test if desired

Where the chap decides to sign the paperwork, he chooses to pay for the child and accepts parental responsibility.

This should always be separate from a woman’s right to choose whether to keep the child or not- that is primarily a medical issue.

I have asked this question before but I will ask it again here. Based on the following definition of Reproductive Rights put forward by the United Nations. What rights do men have currently in the West? I contend that they have NONE, if you look at the definition it becomes obvious since it isn't freely decided if someone else can override that decision.

All couples and individuals have the basic right to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children and to have the information, education and means to do so

Seems a lot of discussion is based on "after the fact". Change needs to happen, so a thought that came to mind which will further complicate matters, but ensure real equality involves conditions that need to be agreed upon before sex.

For example, choose what applies before getting hot and steamy:

I agree with whatever the consequences (abortion, pregnancy, parenthood etc.).

I will/will not agree with abortion.

I will/will not be involved in the pregnancy.

I will/will not be involved in parenthood.

I will not be involved in abortion, pregnancy, parenthood etc.

So before consensual sex occurs, parties need to sign and anyone who breaks the contract needs to be held accountable. Of course, people will change their minds, but then they have to deal with the consequences based on the decisions that THEY made, not what others made. Or maybe I'm just talking crazy

Although I would think that if a man is either not told or given the chance to approve of a pregnancy that a lady is looking to complete, he should be absolved of any responsibility thereafter if he objects. If however he agrees to the pregnancy, he becomes equally responsible.

My opinion on this: if a woman has the choice to decide to abort or not, so the man should have the choice to acknowledge the kid or not.I don't know the stats but I wouldn't surprised if there were men who wanted to raise the kid but the mother aborted without even talking about abortion first with the father.

I have always thought this.

If I’m with a woman and she gets pregnant, and I choose I don’t want to be a parent it shouldn’t be my responsibility in any way.

If I got a woman pregnant and desperately wanted a child, she could terminate the pregnancy with no input from me.

Or if I don’t want a child, she could have it, keep my out of its life, and take me for support.

There should 100% be a choice for a man as well. If he says no, and the woman wants to keep it, then it’s ALL on her.

I don’t get how anyone can disagree with this. It’s skewed so much towards women men loose all right when I comes to reproductive choice

If a women doesnt want a child she can get an abortion. If a man doesnt want a child he obviously shouldn't be given the option to abort the child but I think he should get the decision to raise it or not, if he chooses no then he should not have to pay child support.

The only time I think it should be legal, is if a woman was raped or if the life of the woman is threatened. Both mother and father should take responsibility for their actions. Child support is for the CHILD, not the mother.

If the mother abandoned her baby and the father took them in (sole custody) - the mother would owe child support to the father.

Men can have sex with very little ramifications. They don’t risk their life during pregnancy or giving birth. They don’t risk losing their job due to maternity leave. They don’t risk being harassed while being pregnant.

Not to mention men can go out and have sex, get a woman pregnant, and do it again and again in the same day to different women.

Other than an STD, there is no risk to their life. No natural repercussions from wanton and rampant sexuality.

And yet men want to tell women what to do with their body?

AND men want to avoid any responsibility for the life changing event that is having children?

Get a vasectomy if you don’t want to be on the hook for child support. There’s a high chance you can get it reversed should you find someone you want to have a child with. And wear protection. If you get snipped, wear a condom, and still get a woman pregnant? IT ISN’T YOUR CHILD.

Also freeze your sperm as a hedge bet against the reversal failing.

Man-children running around wanting to have unprotected sex and face no repercussions for their actions. Or worse, force women to suffer for the man’s own emotional gains. 🤦‍♂️
