On the other hand, my husband was not supposed to be a long term prospect. I didn't reject him, exactly, but I also maintained my independence from our situationship. Only went to see him on weekends, never let him come to my house (because my daughter still lived at mine), declined to move in with him for the first 4 years. It was not intended to make him chase me. The intention was not to get too involved while my kid still lived at home. But he was definitely persistent. Would he have been as persistent if I'd gotten attached right away? Who knows.

Yes I always deny sex the first time it’s an opportunity. Not to test his determination quite the opposite it’s to see if he will get all pushy or graciously accept the no like a decent person.

Taking time to make out, do some heavy petting, and slowly escalate to having sex is part of the fun of a new relationship anyway. If a guy can’t enjoy that and respect the pace I want to go at I don’t want him.

I have, sort of. I also just confused why he was interested in me. After seeing him a few times after (weekly group event, not date) I learned that his family was pressuring him really hard to get a girlfriend, so I doubt he was really that into me and was just throwing invites at women he thought could make it work.

I understand where this question comes from (I think) maybe you are talking about playing hard to get? I think that’s more outdated these days but even back when it was a thing talked about in cosmo magazines giving women advice you still needed to give the guy clear and visible signs that you were interested. It was a knock back not a rejection. Knock back may have been saying no to a certain date but telling him If he thought of something cooler or more fun then you could go out. I’ve never done that btw just giving an example.

Ok I’ll bite, I said no because we would have been long distance and after leaving the place we were staying I’d only see him maybe once a year (we were still at school) so it would involve a lot of travelling if we wanted to make it work

The most I’ve done was a rejection of his date ideas, not a rejection to the date itself. Mainly because I was sus since no one of his caliber had ever expressed interest in me. I didn’t want to be the butt of a joke and I was testing his sincerity since imo he had a lot of girls into him the night we met.

To be clear, what I said was along the lines of “That date idea doesn’t really work given the weather lately” and “sorry not interested in that particular thing”. Then he mentioned something that was actually aligned with my interests AND the weather (which he’d known since we’d had a lively 3 hour convo as our first meeting) and it was an enthusiastic yes from then on.

If I had said “no” that would have been daft of him to continue and even dafter of me to say if I was interested.
