If you think about it logically, there aren't very many benefits to dating a "bad boy." They often can't hold down a steady job, which means less resources. They are more likely to commit domestic violence or even kill their partner. Maybe there were evolutionary reasons behind this such as wanting to find a strong protector but in the modern day they are maladaptive. And in any case the surest method for protecting yourself is to have a way to defend yourself (like firearm or martial arts) and above all to avoid engaging in risky/sketchy behaviors. For personal security the best thing to do is to take your destiny into your own hands. It's never good to have to depend on someone else.

Generally, men don't like "bad girls", judging by phrases such as "don't stick your dick in crazy" and the fact that women with high body counts are shamed. So where did men's belief that "women prefer bad boys" come from?
