In a relationship, I do send them to my partner, but that's because she cares. And she says nice things that made me feel good.

Other than her, who would care to look at me?

I don't mean that to sound so depressing. It's just that I can't think of a single person who would give a shit? It wouldn't be for anyone.

I'm not ugly or anything, but it's just me. No one would care.

I may as well just keep them and not post them anywhere. But what do I want pictures of myself for?

Everyone likes looking at women. Y'all only like looking at pictures of the guys you're into. There's not enough incentive for boys to develop that skill.

What is the difference between the sexes that results in this huge disparity?

Women tend towards beauty displays more, men tends towards achievement/value displays more. Women will invest more in the former and get a greater reward out of it since most (a large majority) women are attractive enough to get positive attention feedback from at least some group of men (may or may not be the men they actually want).

Most men recognize (probably mostly subconsciously) that beauty displays (i.e. selfies) are feminine in nature, which is why they more often tend to include them doing something or standing next to something that represents accomplishment (even if women think it's something that sucks like a picture of a fish they caught or whatever). Also most men simply aren't going to get a very good effort/reward ratio out of spending time taking more than a few basic selfies unless they're "naturally" pretty attractive, there isn't a contingent of women for most men that gives positive attention feedback like there is for women.

There's a difference in aesthetics that points nicely to the difference of how men and women are valued. Women feel great and get rewarded for just being themselves.

Men post selfies after they've done something. A fish. Their car. Something they made.

I go on long camping trips and always like to take an "end of the trip" selfie. I think I usually look pretty good. Women would think I look like a hobo.

Nobody's going to give me a reaffirming wave of "woo, go you, you look great, good job, you're hawt, you go king". At best I'd be ignored, at worst I'd be insulted, and I'd probably have my images stolen for some nefarious purpose.

Because most men like myself aren't photogenic. I'm not attractive enough just to post selfies all over social media. It's not like we'll get compliments posting our photos like women do. Women can use makeup, filters, etc. to enhance their appearance and get attention and validation from it.

There's a reason why in shows, movies, pro wrestling, etc. a guy taking frequent selfies is typically portrayed as either a metrosexual or a douchebag. The dude typically needs to either be excessively handsome to justify it (thus provoking envy in other men) or highly delusional about his appearance.

P.S.: If you were posting it purely for yourself you wouldn't post it at all, you'd keep it in a folder on your phone somewhere.

I would probably do it if I were younger and single, since I know that women like selfies, but it's not something men from my generation did much. My attitude is more "if I just post a few pictures, then she knows what I look like, so why would I need to post more?"

I think that it's different than when a single man looks at pictures of women, because men are visually oriented and like to see as many pictures of a woman's face and body (especially her body) as possible. On the other hand, there are other ways to attract women besides with looks, and many men don't have the types of bodies that are going to attract women much, anyway. It's probably more worthwhile for a man to develop social game and interesting hobbies than it is for men to put in a lot of work posting selfies. But if selfies help a man's chances, then he should probably be doing that too.

Women are much more sexualized and valued for their beauty than men. It’s great to get a bunch of compliments and validation for your looks if you post a selfie. But what if you post one and get absolutely nothing? Or worse, negative comments? You would probably feel like crap. And that’s what would likely happen as an average or below average guy. At most, you might have your family members telling you how much of a handsome young man you are.

You know what’s often regarded as the most unattractive type of photo on dating apps on men’s profiles? Pretty much all types of selfies. It’s just not appealing to women unless the man has great photography and editing skills and/or is really good looking.

If you’re going to post photos of yourself and aren’t a really good looking guy, then you need to post yourself doing something cool or exciting if you want to get any validation for it.

Have you ever seen a woman out in public taking selfies? I'm not talking about in front of Niagara Falls or the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign. I'm talking about sitting in Starbucks taking a goddamn picture of herself. Then taking 50 more to get just the right angle. They look like goddamn idiots.

Aside from looking like idiots it requires a level of vanity that most men simply don't possess.
