I noticed there is a very black and white false dichotomy that gets pushed around in the culture war debates on Youtube, Reddit, other social media, and the manosphere in general. It's this idea that women who want to be financially supported and be a housewive are "gold diggers", and that women who work for their own money are "cat lady girlbosses".

It makes it very confusing for me to figure out what men want as an autistic woman who's trying to re-enter the dating pool after years of not dating.

The "girlboss"

People keep accusing feminists of being "corporate girlbosses" or wanting to be a "boss babe" but I've never unironically heard any young feminist woman call themselves this. If anything, most modern feminists are pretty anti-capitalism and the anti work subreddit continues to grow with young leftists.

I can understand men not caring about a woman's career. But people don't realize a lot of women genuinely enjoy their jobs. Being social, women enjoy helping their community and doing jobs that involve helping others. Such as running a small local business, taking care of animals, etc. For some couples, it also works to split household chores and rent 50/50. For some, it doesn't. Everyone is different. It's a very scary sign to me seeing that women enjoying doing something they love is being considered the downfall of society.

It made my heart genuinely sink when I saw a clip from the view where a woman said "A bunch of my female friends are very accomplished, but they can't find anyone." and then a man responded "Because most men want a woman who can take care of a family, not some bitter entitled cat lady". I had been considering a master's in child and family psychology eventually, but felt like maybe I shouldn't if this is going to screw me out of the dating pool.

I remember getting a lot of blowback on this subreddit for suggesting a universal preschool system to improve the birth rate. I felt like it'd be a good non-mandatory public resource for working moms AND stay-at-home moms, especially since many stay-at-home moms I know already put their kids in part-time daycare so they can get a break for a few hours a day for mental health reasons and fit in housework. Immediately I got accused of wanting a "feminist girlboss utopia where all women are forced to work and nobody can live off one income." (I never said this)

It makes me see that even trying to help mothers in the community with a positive social program somehow equals "girlboss" to some.

Now mind you, I disagree with trying to specially prioritize women in STEM because I believe in equal opportunity. However. I see a lot of people claiming women are just handed free HR jobs where they get "paid to do nothing". This is not true. I go to one of the biggest universities in California, and to major in HR management, you need to have a high GPA and take things like calculus. If women are only biologically built to do housework, giggle, birth babies, and twirl in pink dresses for life, I question how they would be able to pass a calculus class, or even basic algebra for that matter.

And where are these "free HR jobs for stupid women"? I need to make car payments here guys.

The "gold digger"

I can understand there are people out there who only marry for money. and as long as they're clear with their intentions, I'm not judging. However, I am seeing women repeatedly being accused of being "gold diggers" for wanting to be a stay at home mom. A lot of my female friends IRL want to be full time homemakers, and I've been incredibly supportive of them. I believe firmly to be a feminist you must support women choosing whatever they please. There's lots of great content out there from feminist homemakers!

There is NOTHING wrong with wanting to be a stay at home mom and spend more time with your children. But already I see that when Lauren Southern got a divorce from her abusive husband, people were blaming her and calling her a gold digger for being a traditional wife. Something they once worshipped her for. It's interesting how fast someone can be turned on.

I mentioned on this sub once how I would not mind being a stepmom to someone else's children. I'm a preschool teacher, and I think it would be really rewarding to be a mother figure in a broken family and help the kids out. Immediately, though, I was accused of just wanting a poor divorced dad's money and to leech off him. The thought of money was not even in my head.

I also noticed a disturbing rise in women who are stay at home are constantly held to higher and higher standards of being "traditional" and "living up to being a perfect wife" enough to the point where I can imagine it causes severe anxiety. I've seen a lot of right wingers misunderstand and downright lie about how "easy" it is to immediately lose weight and become rail thin immediately after birth. When in reality it depends on the woman, her hormones, her mental health, etc. I've seen a lot of people shame women for not breastfeeding, for not being sexy enough for their husband after having to deal with kids all day, etc. And then these women are shouted at that they're just gold diggers or lazy if they're not the perfect stepford wife. I not only see this in right wing circles but I've heard about it even in non right-wing mom groups.

It is actually very strange to me that groups that claim motherhood is the most important job in the world, tend to just completely do everything they can to shame and shit on mothers. I'm appalled that people could defend Stephen Crowder and say how his pregnant wife was just a lazy entitled gold digger. People are not seeing the full picture with this declining birthrate when stuff like this is going on. I see on traditional wife accounts that these women often have a giant pack of men defending them in the comments, telling them they're sexy, replying to people who disagree that they'll die alone in a nursing home, etc. But I often wonder how easy it would be for this pack to turn on them.
