Op I almost upvoted this because I do generally think gen Z has a lot to learn as far as accountability but the body of this post is just you complaining that older people can't creep on minors and teenagers who are barely legal without being judged.

Someone's allergic to accountability and I don't think it's the gen zers you're talking about

I was born in 1996 so I'm on the cusp. I remember the days of going on Omgele and seeing dicks and it was like the "cool" thing to do in my friend group to hook up with guys in their early 20s so they could buy us beer and access to weed.

I think that is why gen z is so risk adverse/sensitive to these power imbalances. We've seen how older men prey on younger women and have the consciousness that previous generations didn't have to realize that engaging in this behavior at a young age is going to leave scars.

Is it an over correction? Somewhat. I don't think it's that wrong for a 20 year old and a 17 year old to be dating so long as both of them have goals outside of the relationship. But do I blame gen z for being extra cautious? Not at all.

I never saw grooming as specific to relationships with minors. It’s a process of earning trust (falsely), developing some kind of dependence and testing the waters, to lay the foundation for abuse.
While I understand you think it’s specific to children, but since it’s described as grooming by professional psychologists, I’m going to go with their classification.

Your definition of sexual predator is directly tied to crimes, but inflicting psychological damage as a means to feed ego is also predatory.

Power imbalances are very real and have a strong impact on relationships. They allow abuse to take place. Often they are the reason the person doesn’t “just leave”. A 19 year old is obviously far more vulnerable to a famous comedian. Honestly if you don’t see an issue then I think it’s safe to assume you just don’t care about people (usually young women) being abused.

When I was 18 and grown men wanted to date me because I had a tight body and was so mature, I knew they were full of shit and so did they.

No one thinks an 18 year old is that mature and I had been out of high school for two years by the time I was 18 and still knew fuck all except grown men wanted to fuck because I was young.

The methods they tried then haven’t changed. Women my age don’t understand me, you are so mature for your age, I feel like I can connect with you and teach you so much.

All of it is predatory. They didnt want me for me, they wanted what I represented. My youth and my attractiveness and my presumed naivety. As soon as they saw I had a present and active father who wanted to meet them, then it was well, I am not ready for that.

Cause they knew it was gross and grooming behavior.

The playbook is the same. Men will do gross things to young women.

Power differentials are the underlying basis of human sexual dynamics, but we're in a weird historical moment where we have to deny the real inner-workings of sexuality (though, I guess we've always concealed the inner workings of sexual attraction).

The hyper-puritanical revulsion toward the levers of human sexuality are exaggerated online, but Gen-Z was definitely raised during the height of the moral panics brought about by social media. There's a weird double knowledge regarding it though (I suppose, again, that all taboo has its inverse image) where those relationships are simultaneously venerated and disparaged.

To me the modern vernacular is basically meaningless and summarizes people's own inability to face the unsavory aspects of human sexuality.

I think this is mostly internet culture. There needs to be a constant discussion topic. A constant calling out of someone. A public castration. A constant need for one group to feel like they have moral superiority.

To accomplish all of these things you have to artificially lower the bar to keep it going.

The metoo movement did this in real time. For example, They got the bad actors such as Harvey Weinstein who assaulted numerous people, but there aren’t enough Harvey Weinstein’s to keep the discussion going, so women started to accuse or bring up stories with men where it was simply a bad date. The bad date men were lumped into the same category as the repeat assaulters then the movement fell apart.

I think this is what the internet is doing. There aren’t enough real sexual predators or groomers so the bar must be lowered so more people can fit the new outrage criteria.

All of those terms are done with 2 goals:

To frame women as vicitms to absolve them from their active role in these so called "power imbalance" relationship.
To restrict men dating options through shaming. You will notice, guys on here somehow think its taboo to date women that are more than 5 years younger than you.

A lot of guys often dont get to enjoy dating in their 20s because many of these women would rather keep cycling through the same subset of men that every other girl is dating. Its only when they hit late 20s and sometime 30s do these girls finally start opening up to other men; starting with men who have increase their smv by working on their careers.

These women want to benefit from the fruits of these men labour without ever having to invest in them or help them succeed. They want to give men a crappy deal of having a smaller window by which they are beautiful, smaller window by which they can provide kids, increase mental and emotional baggage and some are so arrogant they expect there dating value to remain the same even if they had a kid with another guy from a previous relationship.

The feminist movement made "grooming" a buzzword and it caught on. What I find amusing about this subject is feminism is supposed to be about empowering women but in the very same breathe accusing a young woman of being stupid. It's mind blowing to me. And of course accusing men of grooming without any proof whatsoever. If the situation consists of two consenting adults, mind your own business. I have two daughters. I have religiously told them what they want in a partner simply doesn't happen until a man reaches ~40 and he doesn't reach his peak financial earning capability until ~50. Younger men have very little to offer a woman so when I see a younger woman with an older man, I can honestly say I GET IT! Men will say she's a gold digger (and could be) but I prefer to see her as a smart lass that understands security isn't very likely with a younger man. Women want to feel safe and secure right? Right. Then they should date older men if that is indeed their goal.
I digress.
