This is something i’ve really thought about recently. I’m really starting to question whether romantic love is real or not. I’m a man, so i’ll be talking about this from the perspective of my own gender. But it is not limited to my own gender only. Women might also be affected by this, who knows. I hope to know more about that with this post.

Something i’ve started to notice is that many women tend to have high dating standards. For me personally those standards are quite unrealistic. Why? Because they often tend to be about things that we can not control at all; our height, looks, high educational level, communication and social skills, income and so on. Many men do not align with those standards we often read about online and that makes it unrealistic for the average man. No wonder that so many young men are single - probably against their willing. It is this that makes me believe that love is conditional and that perhaps, we are being used. Because, if (their) love was actually real, there wouldn’t be superficial standards. We’d just be loved for who we are and that’s it. Not for what we have. I’d personally never want to be loved for superifcial qualities like height, looks or income. Because - and this is an uncomfortable thought - would they’ve still loved me if i didn’t tend to excel at those? (not saying that i do excel at those, this is purely a hypothetical question) I’m genuinely curious about that. Unfortunately we really live in a cold world If they wouldn’t, i wouldn’t even be surprised. The purest form of love probably comes from our parents and not a partner.

How do you think about this? Is love real? If not, why are people staying with someone that only values them for their superifical qualities? Would you be comfortable with staying with someone like that? Do you believe that there are exceptions to this? Those are questions I’m genuinely curious about and i’d therefore love all your input!
