I’ve read both BP and RP people refer to the “women are wonderful” effect. It seems as though some men thought that dating and sex would be easier than they actually turned out to be. Either they thought women would be more sexually available, more rational, more loyal, or whatever it might be. It seems to me that this violated expectation, fairly or unfairly, is a large part of what drives men to the red pill.

We can say that the expectations were unfair or too high (placing the blame on the men) or that the women were at fault in not living up to men’s expectations (placing the blame on the women.) But either way, the expectations were violated.

In either case, my question is: where do these expectations come from? Why did men think they would get to sleep with loyal, hot women who like them for who they are? ("unicorns") Why did their reason turn out to be invalid? Here are some examples:

  1. Men thought that their dating relationships would be like stories they read or movies they saw … but actually, these are just stories and are written to appeal to consumers.
  2. Men thought their dating relationships would be like their parents’ marriage … but actually, they didn’t take into account that their parents are much older than themselves.
  3. Men thought that their dating relationships would be like their male friendships … but actually, dating differs psychologically from friendships.
  4. Men thought that they had high status because they were doing well academically … but actually, due to evolutionary psychology, women care more about dominance and social skills and less about intelligence.
  5. Men thought that women flirting with them was an IoI ... but actually, the women just wanted another orbiter.

Do any of these explanations appeal to you (or, do they seem totally wrong?) Where do men's high expectations come from and why are they violated?
