I guess this is part of the gender divide. As a guy if someone thought I was a prostitute (either gay or straight) I would probably be flattered that someone thought I was attractive enough that people would pay me for sex or company. I wouldn't have sex with them, but I wouldn't necessarily be offended either.

But lots of women seem to find being mistaken for a prostitute to be highly insulting. I saw one thread where several women said if it happened, they'd feel cheap and go home and re-evaluate their clothing choices or where they were walking. I don't know if I see guys responding that way, even if they were mistaken for gay prostitutes while the guys are hetero.

So why does that offend you? Is it because female sexuality is inherently valuable in ways that male sexuality is not, and being mistaken for a prostitute is a sign that you give your sexuality away for low cost (something men don't have to worry about or be offended by)?
