My years ago ex used to do this kind of thing so that I'd either tell him nevermind or just do whatever it was myself. Lived together five years and he still "didn't know how to put up the dishes." He sure as shit knew where they were when he needed to use them. He'd also play dumb on store trips so I'd have to leave as soon as he got home for all the things he just didn't bother to even get.

He is such a piece of shit. I'd say was but I can all but guarantee he's the same way to this day.

If this man can hold a job, he can shop for some groceries.

My dad did groceries every weekend because he wanted to make sure we had enough things he liked. He also did all the other groceries while he was at it.

My brother is a bit more chaotic and sometimes probably is really unsure what to get, but he never acts up and just takes some alternatives home, so he’s sure the thing that I want will probably be in there. For example, when I ask for soup he’ll take a can, powdered and freshly made. One time he even had normal bananas and mini bananas (very cute).

Also: my brother and father were both really good at gift giving. My brother still is. He’s a 27 year old guy who is almost the opposite of me in character and looks very disinterested 90% of the time. He knows I like to read and I like art. Got me a very nice art book that I wanted to buy for myself later this month. When I asked how he knew, he told me he asked the owner of the bookshop. Also brought (a form of) vegan key lime pie, since I’m vegetarian and love limes. (It was my birthday this week). I was really happy and it felt so attentive. Guys actually know how to do this!

Omg I hate hearing about this from friends, and yes, it’s 90% of men incapable of accomplishing grocery shopping. my friend has to take pictures, print out copies and arrange them in a map matching the layout of the store in order for her husband to get around half the shit she puts on the list. She was telling me about it and laughing but was really embarrassed about it.

My bf goes and he might not know what something is but he will look and google search before asking me, or he'll send me a text with the image like "this brand of x, right?" And he'll pick up something I like that isn't on the list just to surprise me.

It isn't normal for people not to know how to shop. This just tells me he doesn't cook.

I've worked in a grocery store. 7/10 of the men who come in will track down the first female employee they see, hand her the grocery list their wives gave them, and demand "help" finding each item.

A lot of the wives know this happens, know they'll end up going to the store later anyway to pick up whatever he "couldn't" find, but welcome the hour or so of peace they get at home.

Don't be like either of these people.

Jeesus I had the same problems at fourteen. Didn't he see the list when she gave it to him? Why didn't he ask then, before he left? Why didn't he ask an employee? Why didn't he Google it? That's what I did at fourteen. This is on purpose ladies. He kept pestering her to the point where she felt it would be easier to go herself than guide him through it.
