background: I’m a financially successful woman in my late twenties. I wouldn’t entertain for a second the notion of coming home after a stressful 14 hour day to a man who regularly needs to assert dominance in the relationship or treat me as less than equal in any way.

From what I’ve seen of the TRP community (Rich Cooper and the like), they reject women who aren’t financially independent and traditionally submissive. It’s an inconsistent, unrealistic expectation.

These guys also seem pathologically afraid of being cheated on. I wouldn’t be surprised if their philosophies of dating and women stem from negative formative experiences with first girlfriends, divorced parents in which the mother behaved badly or didn’t but the father demonized her, weak relationships with neglectful mothers, abuse by a female authority figure or something along those lines.

They cherry-pick the aspects of evolutionary psych that support the qualities they want in a woman (namely feminine features, child-bearing hips and submissiveness, fair enough) while neglecting those that don’t support their desires (natural female attraction to strong providers).

Since TRP is far from status quo and extremes seldom lay a solid groundwork for theory, they’re probably not worth a serious investigation, but I’m curious what this group’s thoughts are on the issue.

Male or female, would you be willing to take the backseat in a relationship in which you’re the breadwinner or an equal financial contributor?

Do you think their expectations are reasonable? Do you think they’re a bunch of clowns?

Does anyone have experience with these types of guys, as friends or SO’s?

EDIT: changed “orders me around” to “regularly needs to assert dominance in the relationship,” in the first paragraph, because many commenters took the first statement literally.

I’m not talking about specific behaviors here. I’m interested in relationship dynamics.
