I've been getting into a total '70s music rabbit hole. I was adding new songs and I was listening to The Beatles a lot. John Lennon showed up in a music documentary I was watching today, and I felt disturbed by seeing him. I knew that John Lennon used to abuse his first wife, and cheated on her multiple times. But when I read further into it with FDS lens (and with just basic humanity) - I was seriously shocked. Yes, he had incredible talent, I won't deny that. But his personal life was rife with scandal and incredibly NV traits.

He used to verbally abuse Cynthia as they were dating in college. He used to get jealous when she was seen with other men. He hit her once but she took him back when he profusely apologized. When he first saw her at a dance, she told him she was engaged and he replied, "I didn't ask you to f***in' marry me, did I?" He ended up getting her pregnant while she was renting Lennon's childhood bedroom and she even ditched her other fiancé to be with Lennon. He married her because she was expecting. He left her for Yoko Ono as many you already know, and Cynthia even walked in on them staring in each other's eyes when coming back early from a vacation that John said she should take. He tried to divorce her on the grounds that SHE committed adultery. The audacity!

The second is that he treat his son with Cynthia, Julian, like absolute trash, hitting him for silly things and being absent for most of the time. He would yell at Julian until Julian started crying. He even said Julian, "was the result of a drunken night." He left barely any of his millions for Julian in his will - I believe Yoko and his child with her, Sean, got most of everything. Julian even said Paul McCartney was more of a father than Lennon. Julian seems to recognize his father's wrongdoings and said, "My mum taught me how to turn everything around: you just kill people with kindness. There is no need to be mean, nasty or cruel to anybody."

John was such a serial cheater, and even after marrying Yoko Ono, he cheated on her (with Ono's permission, she actually suggested it) and "went on a break" with his very young assistant, May Pang, for 18 months. He consistently kept an eye on Ono and forced her to go everywhere with him, as he was extremely controlling. Ono is always seen as the one who broke up The Beatles, but... it really was not the cause of just one person. Of course it was blamed on the woman. Ono did knowingly go into a relationship with John while he was married but that did NOT break up The Beatles.

Another shocking thing is that Lennon ADMITTED he had sexual desires for his OWN MOTHER when he was a teen and REGRETTED not making a move on her... as if I could not lose even more respect for this man. He was an absolute piece of garbage, and an extreme hypocrite. He kept going on and on about "Peace and Love," while abandoning his family and saying "imagine if there were no possessions..." as if he was not a multimillionaire. Yes, I understand his father abandoned him as a kid and he suffered from that, but honestly, there is no excuse. In a way, he kinda got karma served to him on a silver platter. Not to glorify his murder or the assassinator, as the way he died was pretty gruesome, but Lennon was scum.

I feel Paul McCartney was better... he wrote 'Hey Jude' for Julian but he cheated on many girlfriends and had many flings before he married Linda. He did honor Linda after her early death and continuously honors her. I don't know about Ringo or George too much, but I don't think they were anything close to the shit-stain Lennon was.

We need to stop glorifying/worshipping men in entertainment who are abusive and sick. Just because they have talent does not mean they get a free pass. I honestly want to separate the art from the artist, but I just can't. Chris Brown, R. Kelly, XXXTentacion, etc. I hear Lennon's voice and it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Let me know if I missed anything guys, and thanks for reading.
